About V&J Cafe

Located in the heart of San Francisco at 670 Broadway, V&J Cafe offers a local option for those seeking Chinese cuisine. As a Chinese Restaurant, V&J Cafe aims to provide a range of dishes and services within this popular culinary category. This introduction will delve into what you can expect from V&J Cafe based on available information.

While specific details about the restaurant's ambiance and decor are limited, one customer review notes a "quiet location," suggesting a potentially more relaxed dining environment. This could be appealing to those looking for a respite from the bustling city while enjoying their meal. However, without further information, it's challenging to paint a comprehensive picture of the restaurant's atmosphere.

In terms of service, a customer described the service as "pleasant," indicating a positive interaction with the staff. Efficient and friendly service can significantly enhance the dining experience, contributing to overall customer satisfaction. While this is just one data point, it suggests that V&J Cafe prioritizes a positive service approach for its patrons.

The culinary offerings at V&J Cafe are described as "Quality Cantonese cooking." Cantonese cuisine is renowned for its emphasis on fresh ingredients, delicate flavors, and skillful techniques such as stir-frying, steaming, and roasting. This suggests that V&J Cafe focuses on delivering authentic Cantonese dishes. One reviewer specifically praised the "green onion pancake" as being "very tasty," highlighting a potentially standout item on their menu. If you appreciate the nuanced flavors and diverse preparations characteristic of Cantonese food, V&J Cafe might be worth exploring.

Regarding portion sizes and pricing, one customer mentioned "good portions and good prices," indicating that V&J Cafe strives to offer value for money. This can be a significant factor for many diners, making it an attractive option for those seeking a satisfying meal without breaking the bank. However, it's important to note another customer's feedback regarding the quality of certain meat ingredients. This reviewer found the texture of both the chicken and beef in their main dishes to be "unnatural," describing it as being "somewhere between gelatin and a rubber sponge." They suggested that the owners should consider using better quality meat, even if it meant a slight price increase. This feedback is crucial for potential customers to consider when making their dining decisions.

It's important to weigh the positive feedback regarding the Cantonese cooking, portion sizes, and pleasant service against the negative feedback concerning the meat quality in some dishes. The green onion pancake appears to be a consistently well-received item. Customers who prioritize affordability and are willing to potentially overlook inconsistencies in meat texture might find V&J Cafe a suitable option. Conversely, those who place a strong emphasis on high-quality meat ingredients might approach with caution or inquire specifically about the sourcing and preparation of these items.

In conclusion, V&J Cafe presents itself as a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco offering Cantonese cuisine at potentially good prices and with pleasant service. While one customer lauded the quality of the Cantonese cooking and the value offered, another raised concerns about the texture of the meat in some dishes. The green onion pancake appears to be a notable highlight. Potential customers are encouraged to consider these varying perspectives and perhaps contact the restaurant directly for more information to make an informed decision about their dining experience.

I have no idea why the other reviews are as high as they are. Portions were good for the price, but the quality of the meat ingredients was disappointing. Both the chicken and beef in the main dishes had a truly unnatural texture somewhere between gelatin and a rubber sponge. I've eaten a lot of "cheap" Chinese food, but this version was not pleasant at all. The green onion pancake was actually very tasty, but that shouldn't have been the only highlight of the meal. The owners should consider charging a little more and using better quality meat ingredients. If the meat hadn't been so off-putting, I would easily have given this location at least 4 stars.

As an out of towner, I was taken here by a local after the PJ Harvey show. So so yummy. She ordered so I don't know exactly what I ate, but it was super duper good.

A selfish part of me wants to keep this place a secret, but another part wants others to experience it. We ordered the walnut shrimp, pig stomach in XO sauce, and the salted fish & chicken dish. The walnut shrimp was a let down, not because it was bad (it was tasty), but the other two dishes were more savory/tasty in comparison. 3 dishes for $33.99 (+extra for shrimp). Our meal came with tea and a complimentary soup (super tasty and comforting). Altogether $50 with tax/tip. We paid with CASH. Idk if they accept card, but I’d recommend CASH for places like this. Wells Fargo is across the street, there’s a Chase in the area, and if you’re walking up Grant, there is also a CitiBank. This place was a vibe. Open till midnight offering Chinese diner food in the outskirts of where Chinatown meets North Beach. You don’t come here for the service. You come here when it’s late, all places are closed, and you just want something comforting and savory to fill your stomach.
