About Uncle Foon’s Kitchen 一家大排檔
Welcome to Uncle Foon’s Kitchen 一家大排檔, a Chinese restaurant situated at 1482 86th St in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn, New York. As a member of the Chinese Restaurant category, Uncle Foon’s Kitchen aims to provide an authentic taste of Chinese cuisine, drawing attention with its lively environment and a menu that prominently features fresh seafood.
Based on customer reviews, Uncle Foon’s Kitchen presents a distinct dining experience characterized by its bustling and energetic atmosphere. One reviewer aptly describes it as a "legit Chinese restaurant" that is "loud, boisterous, and alive with activity all the time." This suggests that the restaurant offers a vibrant and authentic ambiance, possibly reminiscent of traditional Chinese eateries where the energy and sounds of the kitchen contribute to the overall experience. The reviewer further notes the presence of "old school Chinese chefs tossing woks on afterburners," painting a picture of skilled culinary professionals employing classic cooking techniques.
A standout feature of Uncle Foon’s Kitchen, according to one enthusiastic patron, is its focus on seafood. The reviewer specifically recommends several seafood dishes as being exceptional, including the "lobster with sticky rice," "steamed fish," and "assorted shellfish stir fry with peas." This strong endorsement suggests that seafood lovers may find Uncle Foon’s Kitchen to be a particularly appealing destination, with these dishes potentially representing the restaurant's specialties. The emphasis on fresh seafood could indicate a commitment to quality ingredients and expertly prepared marine delicacies.
However, it is crucial to consider all feedback to provide a balanced and objective introduction. Another customer shared a less positive experience regarding the pacing of the meal and the perceived value. This reviewer found the food taste to be "ok" but noted that it tended to be on the "greasy side," a common characteristic of some Chinese-American cuisine. Price-wise, this customer felt that the dishes were "on the higher side" in relation to their size. A significant point of concern raised was the slow service, with substantial delays between the arrival of each dish. The reviewer recounted receiving the chicken first, which was described as salty, followed by a long wait for other dishes. This resulted in a disjointed eating experience where dishes arrived sporadically over a prolonged period, leading to a sense of disappointment and a total dining time of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes for four dishes. This feedback highlights a potential area for improvement in the restaurant's time management and service coordination.
In summary, Uncle Foon’s Kitchen 一家大排檔 in Brooklyn offers a lively and authentic Chinese dining atmosphere, with a particular strength in its seafood offerings, especially the lobster with sticky rice, steamed fish, and shellfish stir fry. The kitchen is described as being staffed by experienced chefs employing traditional cooking methods. However, some customers have experienced issues with the pacing of the meal service, with significant delays between dishes, and have found the prices to be somewhat high relative to portion sizes and the level of greasiness in some dishes. The overall taste of the food has been described as adequate by some, while the seafood has received high praise.
For local users in Brooklyn seeking a Chinese restaurant with a vibrant and energetic ambiance and a focus on fresh seafood, Uncle Foon’s Kitchen presents an interesting option. The positive remarks about the authenticity and the quality of the seafood dishes, particularly the recommended lobster with sticky rice, steamed fish, and shellfish stir fry, could be a major draw for those who appreciate well-prepared marine cuisine. The lively atmosphere might appeal to diners looking for a more dynamic and bustling dining environment. However, potential customers should also be aware of the reported issues with slow and disjointed service and the perception of higher prices for the portion sizes received. It may be prudent to consider these aspects when planning a visit.

Customer Reviews
The food taste was ok. As like many restaurants, it is on the greasy side. Price wise is on the higher side, the dishes are not that big. The down side is how long it took for each dish to come out. They gave us the chicken first and taste was on the salty side. We waited 10 mins and still no other dishes came out. The chicken was getting cold, so we couldn't wait for the fried rice to come out so we ordered white rice. We finished eating the whole chicken and our white rice, and still our other dishes are not out. We sat there for like another 15 mins before another dish came out and we finished that and sat there for another 15 mins and then again another dish came out. So it's either u let your dishes get cold and wait till they all come out or you eat 1 dish at a time. We had 4 dishes. From getting it there and seated till finished was 1 hr 45 mins. It was a disappointment. The time management needs to improve.
A legit Chinese restaurant. It's loud, boisterous, and alive with activity all the time. The kitchen is staffed with old school Chinese chefs tossing woks on afterburners like nobody's business. The seafood is the star here. Get the lobster with sticky rice, steamed fish, and assorted shellfish stir frywith peas. You will not be disappointed.
The staff are nice and helpful. I have ordered take out twice from here, food is pretty consistent. My family really enjoys the Mushroom E-Noodles, their fried rice and noodles are also made very well. It has that smoky taste from the wok and seasoned well (not too salty). I think the prices are pretty fair compared to the rest of the chinese places on 86th St. I like the location, it's convenient to pick up typical Chinese entrees without having to deal with the frustration of crowds and traffic further down 86th St. The space looks clean and organized but a little small. Overall, would recommend for anybody in the area to order for family style meals.
They didn’t have good variety in their menu and had a lot of typos on their menu. The food was expensive for what it was, ordered four dishes for $100. Clams and rice came out cold and the chicken was really salty. Would not go again.
Thought I give the neighborhood restaurant I try, and I did. This will be my last time. Food was cooked with too much oil. Did not feel well afterwards. I was appalled when the waitress asked for more tip money when I paid the bill. Service was not spectacular that it warranted more tip. Stay away. There are other restaurants that you can try.
