About Tug Hill Hideaway

Tug Hill Hideaway is a bar and restaurant located at 1838 Fish Creek Rd, West Leyden, NY 13489, USA. They can be contacted at (315) 942-6860 or +1 315-942-6860.

While the platform category suggests a Chinese restaurant, Tug Hill Hideaway appears to be a local bar and eatery that attracts a significant number of ATV riders due to its location in an area with limited dining options. Customer reviews present a mixed picture of the establishment.

One reviewer expressed considerable dissatisfaction with the food quality, describing the French Onion Soup as overly torched with insufficient cheese, and the Texas Toast Burger as dry and lacking in toppings with a thin, overcooked, possibly frozen patty. The fried cheese curds were also criticized for not being local and lacking substance, with some pieces being hollow. The only dish this reviewer found positive was the Toro Poutine, which had good fries, gravy, a decent amount of meat, and what seemed like real local cheese curd. This reviewer also felt the bill was too expensive for the quality of the food and advised eating there only if extremely hungry and riding an ATV.

Conversely, another reviewer had a more positive experience, describing the place as clean with friendly staff and reasonable prices, indicating they would definitely return during the winter season.

Given these contrasting opinions, potential customers might experience varying levels of satisfaction at Tug Hill Hideaway. While the location caters to a specific audience and some reviewers found issues with the food quality, others appreciated the cleanliness, service, and prices. The Toro Poutine seems to be a standout dish. Local users may want to consider these factors when deciding whether to visit. The reality is, a lot of their customers are a captive audience driving ATV’s, etc. to get there. There aren’t a lot of places to eat in that area, which is still no excuse for this place. Let’s start with the French Onion Soup. The flavor wasn’t bad, but someone left the blowtorch on it a little too long, and there wasn’t enough cheese. The Texas Toast Burger…dry and lacking in the toppings as given on the menu. I think it was bacon and onions. The patty was super thin and overcooked. Plus, if you’re going to use giant slices of bread, then make the burger bigger. Oh wait, they can’t because it’s a frozen patty. Fried Cheese Curd…the curd they use is not local because there wasn’t much substance to a lot of the fried pieces. Real north country cheese curd is big and meaty. Some of the pieces were even hollow like the cheese was cooked right out of them. They seemed hand-battered, but I’m not sure. Last, but not least, the Toro Poutine…the lone bright spot…good fries, good gravy, there was a decent amount of meat, etc. and what looked more like real north country cheese curd. The bill was way too expensive for the quality of the food. In addition to the pics, we got one other French Onion Soup, a burger that was weak too, 4 beers, and the total was $75. My best advice? Only eat there if you’re hungry and riding an ATV. Lol

The BEST food, atmosphere, service and prices around! The owners are outstanding, and very easy to have a conversation with! Thankfully they've turned this place into a go to restaurant, instead of a place to avoid(old owners) keep up the amazing work and thanks for the great food and times on the hill since opening!
