About Top's China
Welcome to Top's China, a Chinese Restaurant located at 2712 N Armistead Ave A in Hampton, VA 23666, USA. As a local establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, Top's China offers a variety of dishes for its customers. Based on recent online reviews, the experiences at this restaurant appear to be quite varied, with some customers expressing significant dissatisfaction while others report positive experiences. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on the available feedback to help local users make informed decisions.
One customer who visited Top's China late at night after work shared a particularly negative experience regarding the food quality and pricing. According to this review, an order consisting of two pork egg rolls, a small pork fried rice, and a small chicken broccoli totaled over $21, which the customer felt was not justified by the quality of the food received. The egg rolls were described as "burnt flavorless," and the fried rice was reported to be composed of a high percentage of onions and pork chunks with very little rice. The chicken broccoli was described as "completely flavorless and dripping in grease." This customer was so dissatisfied that they discarded the entire meal after only a small sample of each item.
This negative review also raised concerns about the cleanliness and atmosphere of the restaurant. The customer noted that the interior was empty except for one staff member who was reportedly playing a video game while taking the order. Additionally, the reviewer mentioned that "the place doesn't even smell like a chinese restaurant," which could be a subjective observation but nonetheless contributed to their negative impression. A significant concern was raised regarding the condition of the bathroom, which was described as having "no paper towels, filthy surfaces, soap with no pump" requiring direct handling of the bottle. The reviewer expressed worry about the hygiene of the staff preparing the food, given the state of the restroom. This is a serious concern that potential customers should consider.
The same reviewer speculated that the restaurant might have received high reviews based on specific items like "chicken wings" or "maybe one other dish they just do better than everybody else." This suggests that the quality and customer satisfaction might vary significantly depending on the dish ordered.
In contrast to the strongly negative review, another customer reported a positive first-time experience at Top's China. This reviewer ordered fried rice with four chicken wings and a small General Tso's chicken combo that included a pork egg roll. They found this meal to be "very good," praising the chicken as "flavorful and juicy, not too heavy on the soy sauce," and the egg roll as "cooked perfectly." This positive feedback indicates that some customers have indeed enjoyed their meals at Top's China, particularly highlighting the quality of the chicken wings and egg rolls.
The stark contrast between these two recent reviews suggests a potential inconsistency in the food quality or perhaps a difference in the standards or expectations of individual customers. It is also possible that certain dishes at Top's China are prepared and received more favorably than others, as speculated by the dissatisfied customer.
Given the limited information available in these two reviews, it is challenging to form a comprehensive picture of the overall environment and services offered at Top's China. The negative review mentioned an empty dining area and a staff member occupied with a video game, which might suggest a lack of focus on customer service or the dining environment at the time of that visit. However, the positive review does not provide any details about the ambiance or service beyond the quality of the food.
Based on the conflicting feedback, local users considering Top's China might want to exercise caution. The positive review suggests that certain items, such as the chicken wings and possibly the General Tso's chicken combo, could be worthwhile. The negative review, however, raises significant concerns about the quality of other dishes (pork egg rolls, pork fried rice, chicken broccoli) and, more importantly, about the hygiene of the facilities, particularly the bathroom. The state of the bathroom, as described, is a serious issue that could potentially impact food safety and should not be overlooked.
For local users who might still be interested in trying Top's China, perhaps based on the positive feedback regarding specific items, the restaurant can be contacted at (757) 865-0050 or +1 757-865-0050 to place an order or inquire about their menu. It might be prudent to ask for recommendations on their most popular or well-received dishes, such as the chicken wings mentioned in one of the reviews. Given the concerns about hygiene, it might also be wise to consider ordering for take-out rather than dining in, although one review noted an empty restaurant, suggesting that dine-in might not be a popular option currently.
As no promotional information was provided in the reviews, local users would need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about any specials or deals that might be available. It is also important to note the significant discrepancy in the customer experiences, which could indicate variability in food quality or service. Therefore, it might be advisable to proceed with caution and perhaps try a smaller order of the positively reviewed items first to assess the restaurant for yourself.
In conclusion, Top's China in Hampton, VA, presents a mixed bag of customer experiences based on the limited recent reviews. While one customer found their meal, particularly the chicken wings and General Tso's combo, to be very good, another reported significant issues with the quality of several dishes and raised serious concerns about the cleanliness of the restaurant's bathroom. Local users should weigh these contrasting opinions carefully. If you decide to try Top's China, focusing on dishes that have received positive feedback, such as the chicken wings, might be a safer approach. However, the hygiene concerns raised in the negative review are significant and should not be dismissed. It would be prudent to make an informed decision based on this objective summary of the available customer feedback.

Customer Reviews
Had a late night craving after working my 2nd job and thought this was the perfect place to try based on the reviews. I was very disappointed in the food quality and price. For 2 pork egg rolls, a small pork fried rice and small chicken broccoli it cost over $21. For that, I recevied two burnt flavorless eggrolls, fried rice that was 40% onion, 50% pork chunks and 1% rice. The chicken broccoli was completely flavorless and dripping in grease. I ate one small sample of each and threw the entire thing away. I am not one to waste food, I'm not one to be overly critical or harsh. The restaurant itself was completely empty in terms of customers inside, just one guy working but he was also playing a video game when I placed my order. The place doesn't even smell like a chinese restaurant. Im assuming the high reviews could be based on the chicken wings or maybe one other dish they just do better than everybody else. I was horrified when I went to wash my hands in the bathroom. Generally, I just a chinese place based on their egg rolls and fried rice. Should have really asked for my money back after I stepped into this bathroom. No paper towels, filthy surfaces, soap with no pump so you have to physically handle the bottle and turn it upside down. Now give this some thought, the people COOKING your food have to visit here to wash their hands. :/ I will never return
Came here for the first time and ordered fried rice with chicken wings (4) with a small general tsp combo that came with a pork eggroll . This was very good, chicken was flavorful and juicy, not too heavy on the soy sauce, egg roll was cooked perfectly. Will return!
Wow! Best 40 bucks I spent! So I'm not a fan of Chinese food but my husband insisted so I got the chicken teriyaki which were succulent and savory. But my husband got the orange flavored chicken. Nothing flavored about it! It is infused with delicious, tender orange rinds. Actual rind from an orange that are bursting with orange aroma and zest! Truly the most amazing orange chicken we've ever had! Then the sweet and sour chicken was perfectly fried. The inside pastry was over taken by the moist chicken, the lovely textures danced in your mouth. It was a splendid snack eaten fresh. Beautiful cuisine! I can't remember what else we ordered....the chicken is simply amazing.
We had a fantastic experience at this wonderful family-owned Chinese restaurant! The service was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish tasting fresh and full of flavor. We tried the chicken wings, General Tso’s chicken, and the chicken with garlic sauce, and each dish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. You can really taste the difference in their homemade recipes. We’ll definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommend to anyone looking for amazing Chinese food with great service!
Have been coming to Top's for years and I have to say, they are still the best in the area! Definitely not the kinda place you want to dine in for the atmosphere though. They are better for ordering out on a lazy night or just a day when you are craving some great Chinese food. They cook the food fast and fresh. A couple of times I came in right as they were about to close and they stopped everything and made the food with a smile. They pack the food to the brim for a good price.
