About Tokyo Cowboy

Tokyo Cowboy is a restaurant located at 135 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX 78205, USA. They can be contacted at (210) 305-7075 or +1 210-305-7075.

While the platform category is "Chinese Restaurant," Tokyo Cowboy offers a unique fusion of Japanese and Texan cuisines. This distinctive concept is a key feature of the restaurant.

The atmosphere at Tokyo Cowboy is described as vibrant, with a unique decor featuring cactus wallpaper blended with Japanese elements, reminiscent of older or traditional Japanese houses, resulting in a chic and modern ambiance. The restaurant can get busy, particularly during dinner hours, as noted by one reviewer who dined on a Tuesday evening before a theater show.

Service appears to be generally attentive and efficient, with one reviewer mentioning being seated promptly (having made a reservation) and food arriving quickly. The restaurant seems suitable for various occasions, including pre-theater dining and family-style eating, with portion sizes considered reasonable for the price.

The menu features a variety of dishes showcasing the Japanese-Texan fusion. Some of the items mentioned in reviews include braised beef (described as curry-like but potentially salty), pork belly (favored for its sweetness from hoisin sauce, balanced by rice), and macaroni and cheese (noted as mild in flavor). Standout dishes for one group of diners included the kimchi salad, kaarage chicken, and matcha tres leches dessert. Other items sampled were krab rolls, furikake fries, dashi corn waffle (which had a firmer texture than expected), and yuzu meringue tart (which received mixed reviews on texture). The restaurant encourages family-style eating.

Based on the reviews, Tokyo Cowboy offers a novel dining experience with its Japanese and Texas fusion cuisine in a vibrant and uniquely decorated setting. The service is generally well-regarded. Local users looking for a different culinary adventure might find this restaurant worth a visit, especially those interested in trying creative flavor combinations. No specific promotional information was mentioned in the provided reviews.

In my opinion the food was decent, the braised beef is like a curry dish but alittle strong in salt in my opinion, the pork belly was my favorite dish out of the lunch menu as it has a sweetness of hosion sauce but the rice fit it nicely, the Mac and cheese was alittle too mild and did not have alot of flavor. I would say it is alittle long on getting food even though we only had 2 other tables that was here at the restaurant. Over I could come back to try their dinner menu to get a better comparison.

We specifically chose this restaurant for our dinner before watching the Sailor Moon Live at the Majestic Theater on a Tuesday night. Japanese and Texas fusion and here for it!! It was quite busy for a Tuesday dinner at 6pm but service was great! We git sat down right away but we also reserved a table. Atmosphere at this place was vibrant, the restaurant has this unique walls of cactus wallpaper but details of a Japanese vibe reminding me of an older house or traditional houses in Japan. Very chic and modern. Our server was attentive and food came out pretty quickly too. We are a group of three, ordered their Kimchi salad, Krab rolls, Furikake fries, Kaarage chicken, Dashi Corn Waffle and Shrimp noodles and their desserts Matcha tres leches and Yuzu Meringue Tart. Everything was pretty good but our favorites were the kimchi salad, Kaarage chicken and the Matcha tres leches. The corn waffle I think for me surprised me coz I'm used to a fluffy waffle but that was me not realizing it's a corn waffle not flour. Lol! But I just didn't like the harder texture. My friend's daughter didn't like the texture of the Yuzu tart but her mom loves it! 😅 Portions were just right for the price I think and can't go wrong doing family style eating! Thank you! I recommend this place for a Japanese and Texan fusion!

Food was really tasty, lots of flavor in my hotdog. Fries were really good. Only issue was service was a bit slow and seemed like they were short staffed which isn’t anything new for restaurants lately. I ordered a 2nd hotdog and I’m pretty sure they forgot about me as I didn’t get it for a long time(my party finished their food). My hotdog wasn’t as filling as I thought it would be so I ordered a 2nd about halfway through finishing it. This place did have nice scenery and atmosphere

My dining experience at Tokyo Cowboy in San Antonio was nothing short of delightful. The atmosphere was vibrant yet cozy, making it perfect for both intimate dinners and social gatherings. The service was impeccable, with waitstaff who were attentive, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about the menu. Among the dishes, the Tokyo Cowboy Special was a standout, with its perfectly cooked steak complemented by unique and flavorful Japanese-inspired sauces. Another favorite was the sushi platter, which showcased fresh and high-quality ingredients, leaving a lasting impression. Overall, Tokyo Cowboy offers a unique fusion of Japanese and Texan cuisine that is both creative and satisfying. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in San Antonio. I rate Tokyo Cowboy a solid 5 out of 5 stars for its exceptional food, ambiance, and service.
