Simple Chinese eatery near NYU and relatively quick service. They have an eye catching interior with traditional porcelain and archways. There’s a lot of glamorous Chinese restaurants in NYC, but Tipsy Shanghai gives me more of a home-cooked feel! A lot of variety in their dishes from various regions of China. I got a meat, soup (with seafood), and veg with rice to make for the complete Chinese trinity of home meals, all of which were pretty solid. I actually liked their dim sum item the most - the Wuxi style soup dumplings, which have a lot of soup and are generously stuffed. They also have complimentary ice cream at the end of the meal. Great option as a more casual eatery in the area but served family style so great to bring a friend!

I don't eat SH very often but was curious about this place as I've walked by it several times in my neighborhood of the EV. I got my chance a few days ago when a friend suggested we try out their lunch menu. There are two lunch options that's on the very end of the menu, ($15 and $18). We went with the $18 choicd. We had an appetizer of dumplings; an entree on the side; a bowl of noodles; and a canned soda. Each dish was very tasty and the portions were perfect. In fact, it was a bit too much and my friend took the remaining portions to go. The very nice waitress brought over free ice cream as dessert. As others have stated, the decor was amazing with a lot of thought and effort in making patrons feel like they were transported back to the old country! I didn't know it at the time but apparently this restaurant is part of a chain and thus they have a pretty good idea of how to run a successful restaurant. Even the bathroom is clean and well-done! I'll definitely return to try out the rest of their menu.

Finding authentic Suzhou and Hangzhou cuisine in New York is no easy feat, but this restaurant near NYU delivers an experience that feels like a trip back home. Tucked away on a street corner, its black-and-white sign and classic wooden decor instantly set the mood for an old Shanghai-style dining experience. Their Xiao Yang Sheng Jian is a must-try—thin-skinned, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Beyond the food, the owner’s passion for preserving authentic flavors is evident. Whether you’re a homesick expat or simply craving top-tier Shanghainese cuisine, this spot is a must-visit.

The restaurant decoration is so Chinese style, like it! The seats by the window are particularly atmospheric, with soft lighting, suitable for taking pictures~ Recommended dishes: lion head A classic jiangnan style, the lion head is soft and glutinous, with just the right proportion of fat and lean. The quantity is also quite large! Braised shredded eel This pot is mainly fried with onions and eel shreds. The eel shreds are very smooth Spring noodle/pan fried pork xiaolongbao all delicious
