Welcome to Tim's Kitchen, a Chinese restaurant located at 808 2nd St in Davis, California. Situated conveniently for local residents and especially those within the university community, Tim's Kitchen offers a menu focused on providing sizeable portions of Chinese cuisine at affordable prices. Based on recent customer feedback, this establishment appears to be a practical option for those seeking a hearty meal without breaking the bank.
As a Chinese restaurant in Davis, Tim's Kitchen presents a straightforward approach to dining. According to a review from October 2024, a Friday night visit revealed a relatively quiet atmosphere. The reviewer sampled the Crispy Pork Belly Rice Plate and the Green Beans with Garlic Sauce, with the total cost for these two dishes being approximately $22. This suggests that individual main dishes are likely priced in the range of $10-$15, aligning with the later comment about most menu items being under $14, and even a New York steak meal priced at $12.95. This pricing strategy positions Tim's Kitchen as an accessible option for budget-conscious diners.
The food at Tim's Kitchen is described as "better than average" and "decent." The Crispy Pork Belly Rice Plate and the Green Beans with Garlic Sauce were specifically mentioned, with the latter being noted as "pretty good." A recurring theme in the reviews is the generous portion sizes. One customer stated that the two dishes ordered could easily feed two people, and another highlighted that most items on the menu offer good portions. This feature makes Tim's Kitchen an appealing choice for individuals with a hearty appetite or those looking to share a meal.
In terms of service, the reviews indicate a "direct and no nonsense" approach. Customers who order a plate can expect a complimentary drink. The staff is described as willing to assist if they are able to get their attention. When an issue arose with dirty silverware, the staff was reportedly "happy to replace it." This suggests a functional level of service, focused on efficiency and addressing immediate customer needs.
The atmosphere at Tim's Kitchen is characterized as "pretty standard for a Chinese restaurant." The reviewer noted familiar decor elements and the presence of a TV playing dramas, which are common features in many casual Chinese dining establishments. However, one significant concern raised in the review pertains to cleanliness. The customer reported receiving visibly dirty silverware, which prompted them to question the overall hygiene of the restaurant. While the staff promptly replaced the silverware, this issue understandably left a negative impression and factored into the reviewer's likelihood of returning.
Considering the balance of positive and negative feedback, Tim's Kitchen appears to offer a trade-off between affordability and quality. The reasonably priced menu and large portions are definite advantages, particularly for students or those seeking a cost-effective meal. The food is generally considered to be of decent quality, satisfying basic cravings for Chinese cuisine. However, the reported issue with cleanliness is a serious concern that potential customers should be aware of.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided text. Therefore, local users interested in dining at Tim's Kitchen should consider the general appeal of affordable, generously portioned Chinese food, keeping in mind the mixed feedback regarding the overall dining experience.

The menu's affordability, with most items under $14 and even a steak meal at $12.95, coupled with the promise of good portion sizes, could be attractive to many. However, the reported cleanliness issue is a factor that potential diners will need to weigh against the price and portion benefits.

10/2024 Visited on a Friday night. Not busy. I ordered the Crispy pork belly rice plate 脆皮烧肉饭 and Green Bean with garlic sauce 蒜茸四季豆. It totaled to about $22. The food was better than average. The portions are sizeable; with the two dishes I ordered, it could easily feed two. The green beans with garlic sauce was pretty good. I can see why a restaurant like this would/is doing well in a college town like Davis. The service was direct and no nonsense. If you order a plate, it comes with a drink. They're happy to get you anything if you get their attention. The atmosphere is pretty standard for a Chinese restaurant; the decor is the same, they have a TV playing dramas, etc. The only thing I have to bring into question is their cleanliness. The silverware I had received was visibly dirty... Staff was happy to replace it of course. Would I come back here to eat again? Probably not. Despite the food being reasonably priced, portions large, and the food tasting decent, for Chinese food, I wasn't blown away enough to want to come back. (And of course, the cleanliness factor plays a huge part... makes me think what ISN'T clean that we can't see...) 3 out of 5 rice plates.
Portions are good with most items on the menu being under $14 even a meal with NY steak is priced at $12.95 which good portion sizes. Would recommend if you want a delicious, cheap meal.
This place is very cheap with massive portions. It's good for closer friends who like homestyle Chinese food who you don't need to impress. Because it is fusion it does tend to be a little sweeter, but it has overall good flavors. The tomato and egg had a lot of green onion, perfect heat on the eggs, and green beans had good bite. Meat quality was normal in all the dishes, really good considering the price. Chinese pastas have never been my thing, but if you enjoy that category these are nice. A lot of meat and sauce. For me it's always too monotonous in texture and lacking in flavor. Food came out when it finished cooking so you had food almost immediately. I went on a Saturday 2pm, it was almost the only place open, and it was quite empty. Server was pleasant.
New menu, more options that include more Cantonese style dishes as well as the Hong Kong baked dishes. Most of the dishes come with a free soda or honey lemon tea. Greeted when walked in and was able to sit anywhere we like. The baked dishes are a classic Hong Kong style dish. Although it takes a bit of time, it has good portions and it is delicious. ($11.50 - $12.95) The appetizer is very reasonable priced, so you’re able to get a variety of things, from scallion pancakes to chicken wings to vegetables. The place is super spacious, it is clean. With their new updated menu, there are many options to satisfy everyone!
Very yummy comfort food for a great price! I ate the unagi don and it had egg, broccoli, and a generous amount of sauce on it which is what I love. You get a very generous portion for what you're paying and can easily have one bowl/plate to feed two people or to save for another meal later. The place is clean and I have no issues with the service. There were some issues with them serving the wrong thing and then having to go back but I didn't mind. Each plate/bowl also comes with either a free soda or iced honey lemon tea which perfectly quenched my thirst. The fried tofu appetizer was also very good 👍 looking forward to coming here again
