About The Orient Chinese Restaurant

Welcome to The Orient Chinese Restaurant, located at 1518 Troy Rd, Edwardsville, IL 62025, USA. You can contact them at (618) 656-1846 or their mobile number +1 618-656-1846 for inquiries or to place an order. Based on recent online customer reviews, experiences at The Orient Chinese Restaurant appear to be quite polarized, with one reviewer highly praising the establishment while another expressed significant disappointment, raising concerns about hygiene and food quality.

One enthusiastic reviewer described The Orient Chinese Restaurant as "by far one of the BEST Chinese Restaurants!" They lauded the freshness of the ingredients, the good portion sizes, and the reasonable prices. This customer also commended the staff as "extremely friendly" and, drawing on their extensive experience dining at Chinese restaurants across the US due to weekly travel, stated that this place is "special" and that the staff is dedicated. They reported consistently positive experiences, having "never had a bad meal or bad experience here," and also noted the cleanliness and neatness of the restaurant. This reviewer strongly recommended supporting this local establishment.

However, another customer had a starkly contrasting and highly negative experience. They began their review by stating their initial hope to enjoy their meal, followed by "So disappointing." This sets a clear tone for their subsequent feedback, which raises serious concerns about hygiene and food quality.

This reviewer recounted a disturbing observation while waiting for their order: a cook allegedly exited the restroom as the toilet was flushing and did not appear to wash their hands, even failing to "mime a wet hand motion." This incident immediately created a negative impression and, in retrospect, the reviewer felt they should have left at that point.

The food itself also proved to be a major disappointment for this customer. They ordered the lunch special, which included Sesame Chicken and a side of lo mein. They described both dishes as "terrible," even within the context of "American Chinese food." The rice was characterized as "hard and flavorless," the chicken as "bland and cold," and the lo mein noodles as tasting "vaguely of soy sauce...and that's it." For this meal, they were charged almost $20, which they clearly felt was not justified by the quality of the food.

This dissatisfied customer expressed skepticism about the positive reviews, suggesting they might be from individuals with limited experience of Chinese cuisine elsewhere. They concluded by emphasizing the extent of their disappointment and their firm decision never to return to The Orient Chinese Restaurant. They even highlighted the exceptionally poor quality of the lo mein, stating, "***I cannot emphasize just how bad this Lo Mein was. It made me stop my meal and immediately write a review, something I don't do***," underscoring the severity of their negative experience.

Based on these reviews, the environment of The Orient Chinese Restaurant is described by one customer as "clean and neat" and having a positive atmosphere due to the friendly staff. However, the other review raises a significant concern about hygiene practices within the kitchen, which could severely impact the perceived environment and overall safety of the establishment.

The services offered by The Orient Chinese Restaurant include dine-in and takeout, as both reviewers appear to have dined at the restaurant. One reviewer praised the friendly staff, indicating positive customer service. However, the other reviewer's negative experience, stemming from the observed hygiene issue and the poor food quality, suggests that service quality might be inconsistent or overshadowed by other significant problems.

The features of The Orient Chinese Restaurant include a menu of Chinese cuisine, with dishes like Sesame Chicken and lo mein being mentioned. One reviewer found the ingredients to be fresh and the portions good, while the other described these same types of dishes as flavorless and poorly prepared. This stark contrast indicates a potential inconsistency in food quality. The friendly staff, as highlighted by one reviewer, could be considered a positive feature when present.

Currently, there is no promotional information available in the provided customer reviews. To inquire about any special offers, discounts, or new menu items, it would be best to contact The Orient Chinese Restaurant directly using the provided phone numbers.

In conclusion, The Orient Chinese Restaurant in Edwardsville, IL, presents a mixed picture based on the recent customer reviews. While one patron had an overwhelmingly positive experience, praising the fresh ingredients, good portions, prices, friendly staff, and cleanliness, another reported significant concerns about hygiene practices and the very poor quality of the food, leading to a strong negative impression. Potential customers should be aware of these contrasting experiences and may want to consider these factors when deciding whether to patronize this establishment.

This is by far one of the BEST Chinese Restaurants! The ingredients are fresh, the portions are good, and the price is good. The staff is extremely friendly. I live local but travel the country each week. I been to Chinese Restaurants all over the US. This place is special and the staff puts their all into it. I have never had a bad meal or bad experience here. This place is clean and neat too. I highly recommend this spot and supporting local.

I so wanted to enjoy my meal here. So disappointing. So to start off, as I'm waiting, one of the cooks comes out of the bathroom as the toilet is flushing. Come on man, you gotta wash your hands. He didn't even mime a wet hand motion. I should have left then and there, but oh well. The lunch special Sesame Chicken and side of lo mein were terrible. I get it, it's American Chinese food but this was a terrible representation of even that. Hard and flavorless rice, bland and cold chicken, the lo mein noodles tasted vaguely of soy sauce...and that's it. For this I was charged almost $20. I can only assume the other raving reviews are from people who have never eaten Chinese food elsewhere. But it was so disappointing and I will definitely never go back. ***I cannot emphasize just how bad this Lo Mein was. It made me stop my meal and immediately write a review, something I don't do***

Overcharged and given the wrong order. The cashier dropped my order before giving it to me and when I asked for soy sauce she said you don’t have to wait for me to have soy sauce just grab the soy sauce. I thought this was rude. I asked for a half order, very clearly and I was told that I was charged for a half. I was actually charged for a whole order and given a whole order. When I called about it in a kind and understanding manner, the hostess hung up on me before I could finish speaking. The chicken wasn’t too bad but the rice was old, dry, had crunch, and was very disappointing especially for the amount of money it all cost. The egg roll was very tiny and had a slimy texture. I’ve never had an egg roll look or taste like that. The overall experience and food was very disappointing . I won’t be back

Unfortunately, we will not be back. Spent close to $50 and was definitely not worth it. 2:00 pm on a Sunday, not one person inside so you can not blame this on a busy time. Ordered egg drop soup, (extremely greasy), vegtable fried rice, special fried rice, and beef friends rice. All the rice was dry and burnt! What a total disappointment.

They recently raised their prices, making what would have a been a cheaper, yummy option for food now expensive like everywhere else. Especially since the new management thought it would be a good idea to cut back on how much they give you. Will not be back.
