About The Mandarin Restaurant
Situated at 725 Kapiolani Blvd in Honolulu, HI 96813, USA, The Mandarin Restaurant operates as a local Chinese Restaurant offering both dine-in and takeout services. They can be contacted at (808) 593-1188 or via mobile at +1 808-593-1188. Based on recent customer feedback available online, experiences at The Mandarin Restaurant appear to be somewhat mixed, with comments on food quality, portion sizes, and discrepancies in online pricing.
One reviewer shared their experience with a few specific dishes. The lemon chicken was rated as "3 stars," indicating an average quality, described as "fine but not very flavorful" with "decent quality chicken." In contrast, the egg drop soup received a more positive rating of "4 stars," particularly appreciated on a cold and rainy day. The reviewer also gave the "quick takeout preparation and value" an overall rating of "4 stars," suggesting efficiency in their takeout service and a reasonable price point for what was received. They noted that the portions were not large but considered them adequate for a single serving, aligning with the cost of a single meal in the Oahu context. While acknowledging that it might feel expensive, they contextualized it as a normal meal price compared to other options on the island and appreciated the option for a single-serving takeout portion, unlike some restaurants that only offer larger quantities. A notable downside for this reviewer was the inability to order hot and sour soup without pork, indicating a lack of flexibility in accommodating dietary restrictions for this particular dish.
Another customer reported a significant issue with misleading prices on The Mandarin Restaurant's website. Upon ordering takeout, they found the actual price to be $15 higher than what was advertised online. When they inquired about this discrepancy, they were informed that the menu on the website was outdated, from "a long long time ago," and had not been updated to reflect changes supposedly made years prior. This reviewer expressed disappointment that while the actual cost was higher, the quality and flavor of the food were only "just okay," suggesting that the value did not align with the unexpected increase in price.
Based on these limited reviews, it is difficult to form a comprehensive picture of the environment at The Mandarin Restaurant. One reviewer focused on their takeout experience and did not comment on the dine-in ambiance. The other reviewer also ordered takeout and did not provide any insights into the restaurant's interior or atmosphere. Therefore, no concrete information about the environment can be objectively derived from the provided text.
In terms of services, The Mandarin Restaurant clearly offers takeout, which at least one reviewer found to be quick and efficient. It can be inferred that they also provide dine-in service, as they are described as a restaurant. However, the reviews do not offer details about the quality of their dine-in service, the attentiveness of their staff in a dine-in setting, or any other specific services they might provide, such as delivery options or catering.
The features of The Mandarin Restaurant, as indicated by the reviews, include a menu with standard Chinese-American fare, such as lemon chicken and egg drop soup. The quality of these dishes appears to be average to good, with the egg drop soup being particularly well-received by one customer. However, there might be limitations in accommodating dietary restrictions, as seen with the inability to prepare hot and sour soup without pork. A significant concern raised is the issue of outdated and misleading pricing information on their website, which could lead to unexpected costs for customers ordering based on the online menu.
Currently, there is no information available regarding any promotional offers, discounts, or special features at The Mandarin Restaurant. The reviews provided focus on the food quality, service efficiency for takeout, and the problem with online pricing, without mentioning any ongoing promotions or unique selling points. Potential customers would need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about any current specials or discounts they might be offering.
In conclusion, The Mandarin Restaurant on Kapiolani Blvd in Honolulu presents a somewhat inconsistent picture based on the limited recent customer feedback. While their takeout service was noted for its speed and the egg drop soup was well-liked, the lemon chicken was considered average, and there was a reported inflexibility in accommodating a dietary request for hot and sour soup. A significant issue highlighted was the discrepancy between the prices advertised on their website and the actual charges for takeout orders, attributed to an outdated online menu. This lack of transparency regarding pricing could be a major concern for potential customers. Given these points, local users considering The Mandarin Restaurant might want to be aware of the potential for average food quality for some dishes, the possibility of inflexible menu options for dietary needs, and the critical issue of potentially misleading online pricing. It would be advisable to confirm prices directly with the restaurant when placing an order to avoid unexpected costs.

The lemon chicken was 3 stars, the egg drop soup on a cold and rainy day was very nice and I’d give it 4 stars, and the quick takeout preparation and value being it to 4 stars overall. The chicken was fine but not very flavorful, decent quality chicken. The portions weren’t huge but that was fine, it was a bit more than a single serving of chicken, and a small side soup—it’s basically one meal, and it costs about what one meal should. It feels expensive, but compared to everything else on Oahu it’s a normal meal, and compared to other Chinese takeout it’s nice to have the option to not get a ton of food. I tried to order hot and sour soup without pork and they couldn’t do that, so that was one downside.
Misleading prices on their website. Ordered takeout and price was $15 more than what was advertised online. Apparently the menu on their website is from “a long long time ago” and yet they haven’t updated their website to reflect changes that are supposedly years old. Wouldn’t complain if the food matched the cost, but the quality and flavor was just okay.
Went for an early lunch. I was the only one. The menu has a variety of dishes. The lady was friendly. She let me charge my phone. I ordered the orange chicken and rice plate. It came with hot and sour soup. The soup was great. The orange chicken was meh. The chicken itself was bite-size pieces of breast meat. The batter was nice. I thought I could taste garlic(?) on the chicken. The orange sauce didn't taste like orange, or anything really. The rice was typical white people rice, but it wasn't up to my standard. She gave me a lot of water refills. Maybe it's a decent place. I wish the potstickers weren't Japanese gyoza.
Delicious wonton soup, black mushroom chicken and orange chicken. Friendly and quick service too! We will be back
Very nice woman works here. The food is close to the home-cooked feeling and is very comforting. Overall, the food is good, the restaurant is clean, and the staff is very nice.
