About The Mandarin

For those seeking a sophisticated Chinese dining experience in Menlo Park, The Mandarin stands out as a "nice fancy Chinese restaurant" that consistently impresses its patrons. It's frequently recommended as a go-to spot for those wanting to treat friends or visitors to high-quality Chinese cuisine.

The Mandarin prides itself on serving really beautiful and tasty dishes, with a menu that boasts a vast selection of items. Customer favorites include the visually appealing Spicy Beef Tendon, the flavorful Salt and Pepper Tofu, the fresh Garlic snow pea leaves, the rich Eggplant in Spicy Sauce, and the classic Kung Pao chicken. While the dishes are noted to be on the pricier end, generally ranging from $20 to $30, many reviewers feel that the quality and presentation justify the cost.

The service at The Mandarin is generally well-regarded. On a Friday evening visit, a customer reported prompt seating and timely delivery of dishes, served one by one. A thoughtful touch is the provision of boxing leftovers. It's worth noting that the restaurant automatically includes a starting tip of 20%, which is not uncommon for establishments in this price range, particularly in the Menlo Park/Palo Alto area.

The interior of The Mandarin exudes a sense of upscale elegance, fitting its description as a "pretty fancy Chinese restaurant." The spacious dining area features numerous tables, many of which are equipped with turntables, making it ideal for family-style dining and sharing multiple dishes. The restaurant also offers both upstairs and downstairs dining rooms, providing ample seating for various group sizes.

Parking is generally convenient at The Mandarin. There is parking available in the back, behind the restaurant. Additionally, the numerous parking lots in downtown Menlo Park offer further options within a short distance.

Beyond the main dining area, The Mandarin also features bar seating with an extensive collection of wines and a selection of beers. This makes it a suitable venue not only for a full meal but also for enjoying drinks in a refined setting. Whether for a small gathering or a large party, The Mandarin offers a combination of delicious, wonderfully presented Asian dishes, great service, and a beautiful ambiance, making it a worthwhile experience for those seeking a higher-end Chinese dining option in Menlo Park, despite the acknowledged higher price point.

I love this place! This is one of my go-to spots to take Chinese friends or people coming into town who like Chinese food! It’s a nice fancy Chinese restaurant with really beautiful and tasty dishes. The dishes are on the pricier end ($20-$30) but they come out very beautiful and tasty so I would highly recommend. This time we got Spicy Beef Tendon, Salt and Pepper Tofu, Garlic snow pea leaves, Eggplant in Spicy Sauce, and Kung Pao chicken. Everything was delicious. The beef tendon dish looked especially nice. Service: We came on a Friday evening and there wasn’t too many people so we were seated right away. The dishes came out one by one in a timely manner. They also box the leftovers for you, which I appreciate. They do start tip at 20% which is a bummer but not unexpected for a pricy place like this. Interior: The restaurant feels like a pretty fancy Chinese restaurant. There’s lots of tables so there’s plenty of seating. And there’s a lot of tables with turntables on top, so great for family style dining. Parking: There’s parking the back, behind the restaurant. There’s also many parking lots in Menlo Park downtown, so it’s not hard to find a spot.

First time here and it won't be my last. This restaurant had great service with delicious, wonderfully presented Asian dishes. Vast selection of menu items. Beautiful upstairs and downstairs dining room. Great for small or large parties. Bar seating with an extensive collection of wines and some beer. A little pricey, but that goes without saying if you're located in Menlo Park /Palo Alto Bay Area. Honestly, the food and service is worth the price though.

Good food and great service. We ordered the honey-walnut shrimp, kung-pao chicken, Dan-dan noodles and whole fish in spicy bean sauce. Every item was tasty and portion sizes were generous. The food would have been better with less oil/ salt/ sugar. The owner/ manager was very friendly, stopped by to say hello and gave my son a mango dessert on the house ! The decor is great, and the restaurant is clean and welcoming. Good experience !

Food was authentic. Not the typical super oily chinese restaurant. The Ginko chicken soup was perfect for a cold day. Smoked duck ws also good and well seasoned.

This is now my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area! Their raw crab is so delicious I wanted to cry. It was so good that I just had it 2 weeks ago and had to go again, despite the hefty price tag. All food had amazing quality and freshness. Food presentation was also lovely. 3 of us had all the food in the photo and it came up to $250 after tax and tips which is not bad at all. Highly recommended for everyone who wants to have some good real chinese food. Will definitely go again!
