About The Kitchen
Located at 279 El Camino Real in Millbrae, The Kitchen positions itself as a premier destination for authentic Cantonese cuisine within the broader Chinese Restaurant category. Customer reviews overwhelmingly praise the quality of the food, with one reviewer even proclaiming it "one of the best Cantonese restaurants in the Bay Area." This strong endorsement suggests that The Kitchen is a notable culinary establishment for those seeking genuine and well-executed Cantonese flavors.
The location of The Kitchen is described as "very convenience," making it easily accessible for local users in Millbrae and potentially surrounding areas. However, one reviewer noted a potential challenge with parking, particularly during dinner time, which is a common consideration for restaurants situated along busy thoroughfares like El Camino Real. Despite this potential parking inconvenience, the accessibility of the location itself appears to be a significant advantage.
In terms of service, The Kitchen receives positive feedback, with staff described as "very attentive." This suggests that diners can expect a high level of customer care and responsiveness during their visit, enhancing the overall dining experience. Attentive service is often a crucial element in creating a pleasant and memorable meal, and The Kitchen seems to excel in this aspect.
The true highlight of The Kitchen, according to customer reviews, is the food. One enthusiastic reviewer simply stated, "omg. Every dish is just right," indicating exceptional quality and preparation across the menu. This strong commendation suggests a consistent level of culinary excellence that leaves a lasting positive impression on diners. Another reviewer echoed this sentiment, noting that "the food speaks for itself" and that "everything was very tasty," further reinforcing the exceptional quality of the cuisine.
Specific dishes ordered by one reviewer provide a glimpse into the menu's offerings and the quality of their execution:
- Truffle roast duck: This dish received a strong recommendation, particularly for those who enjoy both roast duck and the distinctive flavor of truffle. The reviewer suggested that if these are preferred tastes, this dish is a must-try. The inclusion of truffle in a traditional Cantonese dish like roast duck indicates a willingness to offer unique and potentially upscale flavor combinations.
- Lobster lo mien: This noodle dish featuring fresh lobster was described as "delicious and seasoned well," with "slippery, saucy noodles." Importantly, it was noted as "not salty," indicating a balanced approach to seasoning, which is crucial in Cantonese cuisine. The use of fresh lobster suggests a commitment to quality ingredients.
- Snow pea leaves: This vegetable dish received a slightly less enthusiastic review, with the comment that it was "a bit on the oily side," which was not the reviewer's preference. They typically prefer this dish "freshly tossed in the wok with garlic." This feedback provides a specific detail about the preparation of one dish and highlights a potential area where preferences might vary.
- Tofu with sautéed ribeye steak and broccoli: This combination dish was well-received, with the reviewer expressing their love for tofu and noting that the steak had "good wok hay" (the slightly charred flavor imparted by a hot wok) and was "very tender." The recommendation for this dish further showcases the variety and quality of the ingredients and cooking techniques at The Kitchen.
The atmosphere of The Kitchen is described as "Just like any authentic Chinese gathering place 😁." This suggests a traditional and perhaps lively ambiance, typical of restaurants that serve as community hubs for Chinese families and gatherings. It implies a focus on the social aspect of dining, where the environment is comfortable and conducive to sharing meals and conversations, rather than a more formal or Westernized setting.
While the provided reviews do not explicitly mention any ongoing promotional information, the high praise for the food and service suggests that The Kitchen's primary draw is the quality of its offerings rather than discounts or special deals. Given its reputation as "one of the best Cantonese restaurants in the Bay Area," it is likely that customers are willing to pay for the exceptional culinary experience. Local users interested in any potential promotions are advised to contact The Kitchen directly at (650) 692-9688 or via their mobile number at +1 650-692-9688 to inquire.
In conclusion, The Kitchen in Millbrae appears to be a highly regarded Cantonese restaurant that stands out in the Bay Area for its exceptional food quality and attentive service. Despite potential parking challenges during peak hours, its convenient location and authentic "Chinese gathering place" atmosphere make it a welcoming spot for diners. The menu features a variety of well-executed dishes, including the recommended truffle roast duck, delicious lobster lo mien, and flavorful tofu with sautéed ribeye steak and broccoli. While the snow pea leaves were noted as slightly oily by one reviewer, the overall consensus is that the food is consistently "just right" and "very tasty." For local users in Millbrae and beyond seeking an authentic and high-quality Cantonese dining experience, The Kitchen comes highly recommended based on the enthusiastic customer feedback.

One of the best Cantonese restaurants in the Bay Area Location: very convenience but could be a challenge to find parking during dinner time Service: very attentive staff Food: omg. Every dish is just right Atmosphere: Just like any authentic Chinese gathering place 😁
We order the following: 1) Truffle roast duck - I recommend. If you like roast duck and truffle, this is your kind of dish. 2) Lobster lo mien - fresh lobster and slippery, saucy noodles. Delicious and seasoned well. Not salty. 3) Snow pea leaves - bit on the oily side, which is not my preference. I usually like it freshly tossed in the wok with garlic. 4) Tofu with sautéed ribeye steak and broccoli - I love tofu. The steak had good wok hay and very tender. I recommend this dish. Very traditional chinese restaurant. Service is OK, but the food speaks for itself. Everything was very tasty.
TLDR: tasty Chinese food but a bit cramped seating wise I really liked the crispness of the honey walnut shrimp and the sweet and salty combo of the honey spareribs. The Peking duck was fried nicely and the garlic lobster was bursting with flavor
The food in this restaurant is very delicious. The siu mai is probably the best I have ever eaten, but the shrimp dumplings are the worst I have ever eaten because skin is broken. Others such as sesame balls, taro cakes, radish cakes, steamed aged orange skin short ribs and rice rolls are all delicious. But the service and dining environment are terrible. There are always people behind me and it is difficult to call the waiter. Saturday at 11:45 am , the wait time around 35 mins .
I recently visited The Kitchen in Millbrae for some dim sum, and it was... just okay. The service was quick, which was a plus, but unfortunately, the food didn’t quite live up to expectations. The dim sum itself was fine—nothing special—just your standard offerings, though the selection was a bit limited.
