The absolute best restaurant in Dunedin hands down. Prices are $$$$ but it’s 100% worth it. Everything is mind-blowingly delicious, they have an extensive wine list with a very informative and personable sommelier. The service is top notch. The atmosphere is quaint, romantically lit and lovely. It is a small place and always 100% booked so reservations are a must. It’s a fantastic place to celebrate special occasions. My only “complaint” would be that their bathroom facilities could use a little zhuzhing. I hope they get a Michelin star one day - it’s truly a gem.

My husband and I were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and we decided on The Black Pearl as we both have never been. It was one of the most impressive and memorable dinner experiences we’ve had. Our server Jay was wonderful. Super knowledgeable about all the food and his suggestions were on point. Adam the Maitre’D/Sommelier was amazing (background on the wines was book worthy). We had the best Brunello and Tokaji (dessert wine). Everything we had was delicious but the whole experience complimented the amazing menu selections. Kudos to the chef. Highly recommend Duckling, White Truffle Lobster Risotto, Tarte Tatin, Filet Mignon, Black Pearl Salad, Humboldt Fog Hors d’oeuvre

The Black Pearl offers the most amazing dining experience. The restaurants atmosphere is lovely, very romantic. My husband and I had one of the best dining experiences ever. The food was amazing as well as the service. The head sommelier Adam was so informative and was spot on with all the wine choices. We are looking forward to the next time. Our thanks for a great experience.

Food was delicious. They have 11 tables, so be sure to make a reservation. Only one chef, and he makes the food to order. The dining experience was about 2.5 hours. I like when restaurants give you time to enjoy the meal and chat with the people you’re dining with, so they did good on that end. Our waiter was Sean. He’s so polite and knows everything about each dish. We each stuck to water for the night, no alcohol and it was about $90 per person after taxes and tip. I would eat here again.

Black Pearl was an absolute 10/10! For a holiday, that’s really saying something. We went last night for Valentine’s Day with friends and enjoyed an incredible 8-course meal. Every dish was phenomenal, both in presentation and taste. The service was outstanding—attentive, knowledgeable, and seamless. They serve wine only (no hard alcohol), but the servers knew their wines inside and out, making perfect pairing recommendations. The entire experience was simply fabulous. We can’t wait to go back!
