One reviewer, familiar with the Oakland area over several decades, specifically highlights Thanh Ky's reputation for Hu Tieu, also known as Chaozhou dry noodles. This suggests that this particular dish is a signature offering and a draw for many patrons. The same reviewer opted for the #47 House Special Crispy Noodles, priced at $15, and found it to be "delicious" and "so good." They also appreciated the restaurant accommodating their preference for drier noodles with less sauce, indicating a willingness to customize orders. The overall experience was described as a "great meal," with the reviewer expressing thanks to the staff.

The aforementioned reviewer noted that the kitchen was fast, allowing for a quick in-and-out visit within 30 minutes. The service was described as "excellent," with the added benefit of staff being able to communicate in Cantonese, suggesting a multilingual environment that can cater to a diverse clientele. While the reviews primarily focus on the food and service speed, the fact that customers have been returning for years implies a consistent level of quality and satisfaction.

A key feature of Thanh Ky Restaurant is its specialization in Hu Tieu (Chaozhou dry noodles). This dish, originating from the Chaozhou region of China, is a type of rice noodle soup or dry noodle dish with various toppings and a flavorful broth served on the side when ordered "dry." The positive mention of this dish by a long-time Oakland resident underscores its authenticity and appeal at Thanh Ky. Another standout dish is the #47 House Special Crispy Noodles, which, based on the review, is a must-try for those who enjoy crispy noodles with a savory sauce. The ability to customize the sauce level is also a notable feature catering to individual preferences.

Beyond their specialty noodles, Thanh Ky Restaurant also offers other popular Chinese dishes. One long-time customer mentioned their consistently enjoyable "salted fish and chicken fried rice" and the "gravy egg over rice," both described as delicious. This indicates a broader menu beyond just noodles, with familiar and comforting rice-based dishes that have garnered positive feedback over the years.

Information regarding the environment of Thanh Ky Restaurant is limited in the provided reviews. The focus is primarily on the food quality and service efficiency rather than the ambiance or decor. O boy, Oakland. It has gotten really bad since the late 90's when I took a few classes at Laney College. Thanh Ky is known for hu tieu, chieu chau dry noodles. I opted to go for their #47 House Special Crispy Noodles $15 instead. This was delicious. So good. I asked them to make it a bit drier with less sauce. My personal preference is a more crispy noodles. Too much gravy will ruin this dish. Service was excellent. They speak Cantonese as well as other languages. The kitchen was fast. I was in and out in 30 minutes. This was a great meal. Thank you everyone at Thanh Ky.

I have been coming to Thanh Ky for years and they never disappoint. They serve one of my favorite versions of salted fish and chicken fried rice. Their gravy egg over rice is delicious as well. Friendly reminder that they are cash only.

If you are from Oakland, you’ve probably heard of Vien Huong, which has been my go to and I’ve been going there since I was a little kid. However… my friend recommended me to Thanh Ky and I was reluctant at first to cheat on Vien Huong but… I’m glad I did. They offer the same type of noodles but.. the taste is totally different. I usually get the combination with the fat egg noodles and soup on the side. Vien Huong: their egg noodles are different, a less eggier. The price is about $3-4 dollars more than TK. Their bowls are bigger and you get more food Thanh Ky: their egg noodles are very yellow and contain much more egg. Sometimes they don’t cook the egg noodles enough and it’s a little gummy. Bowls are cheaper in price but are smaller. However, the overall flavor has more oomph than VH. It’s more flavorful, a little saltier, more garlicky and the fried pork skins are a nice guilty touch. I’m a big fan of TK now but I still go back to my roots at VH but I find it’s less often. Total meal for two combination noodles at TK is around 35 dollars and at VH is almost 43.

Order (love potion) #9. "House Special Ho Fun" with extra pork rinds. The broth is so beautiful I almost feel bad telling you that the chili sauce they serve on the side is amazing for sipping your noodles in. (You'll definitely want extra.) #7 Duck noodle soup but ask for Cambodian rice noodles.
