About Thai Issan

Thai Issan, situated at 2644 W 4700 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84129, USA (phone: (801) 432-7903, mobile: +1 801-432-7903), is categorized under "Chinese Restaurant" on this platform, though customer reviews indicate it specializes in Thai cuisine. While located in Salt Lake City, Utah, this introduction is for local users in Singapore who may be interested in learning about its offerings, especially if considering international food options or travel.

One recent customer who visited for lunch reported being greeted by a very friendly staff member and found the restaurant to be "extremely clean." They ordered the Pad King, were offered a choice of spice levels (American or Thai), and opted for a "6 Thai spicy." While they felt the spice was primarily from red pepper flakes rather than authentic Thai chili heat, they found the dish to be "decent" with a satisfying lunch portion. They also noted that the restaurant, although "hidden in a corner or a small shopping center," served good food and had outstanding staff.

However, another customer with years of prior experience at Thai Issan reported a significant change in portion sizes under new ownership (within the past year). They ordered their usual green papaya salad for takeout and found it to be considerably smaller than before, with a substantial portion consisting of iceberg lettuce. They expressed disappointment with the value for the price charged ($14.06) and, after comparing the cost of raw ingredients, felt the markup was excessive. This customer's experience led them to return the food for a refund and state they would not patronize the restaurant again, citing concerns about stinginess and a lack of care for customers based on their own and other recent reviews.

The menu at Thai Issan appears to feature classic Thai dishes, including Pad King and green papaya salad. The availability of different spice levels suggests an effort to cater to varying preferences. The positive feedback regarding cleanliness and friendly staff contrasts with concerns about reduced portion sizes and value under new management.

For local users in Singapore, if you encounter Thai Issan on any global food platforms or are planning a visit to Salt Lake City, it's important to consider the mixed recent reviews. While the service and cleanliness have been praised, there are significant concerns raised about the value and portion sizes of some dishes under the new ownership. It may be prudent to look for more recent and diverse reviews to get a comprehensive understanding of the current customer experience before making a decision.

Came by to have lunch and was greeted by a very friendly young lady and told I can sit anywhere I wanted. Before she left she asked what I wanted to drink and gave me a menu. The menu has many choices and I decided on Pad King she asked how spicy I wanted it and we had a discussion on American spicy it Thai spicy. I choose 6 Thai spicy. The food came out fairly quickly and I got white rice with my meal. I think the spice was just more red pepper flakes and not a real Thai spice for heat. But the dish was decent and I got a portion size that was about right for lunch. There were no leftovers which is unusual for me because I normally can’t eat the entire meal. I think the place although hidden in a corner or a small shopping center had good food and was extremely clean the staff was outstanding.

I have been coming here for years however hadn’t come for a bit. I ordered the same as always a green papaya salad. We did take out. When we got home I noticed it to be about a 1/4 of the size it used to be. 1/2 of it was a few pieces of iceberg lettuce totaling 1/2 a cup at most. The green papaya salad was probably less than a 1 cup of papaya. They charged $14.06. I called and asked when they changed their sizes of which she told me they are new owners in the past year. They are running the business in greed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON NOTHING. I returned the food for a refund. If you need shredded papaya to make your own easy it is only $2.99 lb. Or $1.99 a lb at Rancho Market. So the mark up is way beyond greed. And that is on the high side. After reading other reviews it seems like they have become stingy not caring about their customers. Never again The container in the picture is a small container maybe 8”x6”.

It's under new management as of a year ago, and I was worried about the change. I needn't have. It is amazing. Tom Kha was in the top three I've had and the Massaman is a bit sweeter than before, but make the spice level at least a 2 and it blows the mind.

My wife was in the area and was craving some Thai food. She looked up Thai places around the area and this place popped up close by. We ordered papaya salad, chicken larb, Thai basil fried rice, and pad lad na. All of those dishes were delicious! Everything tasted fresh and very flavorful. The service my wife said was good and they were very nice. I definitely will try it again if I'm ever in the area. It's a small shop located in a very small strip mall so you can easily miss it.

Looking at the humble outside one might think not worth it a try however; they may not be fancy but they serve great tasting food and have an atmosphere where their customer is the most important thing. The serving sizes are huge and plentiful. Great did. Will definitely be back.
