About Tasty Place/ 品味嘉川菜

Welcome to Tasty Place, also known as 品味嘉川菜, a local Chinese restaurant situated at 1625 El Camino Real in Millbrae, California. As part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Tasty Place aims to offer a wide array of dishes to satisfy various culinary preferences. Located on a well-known thoroughfare in Millbrae, it is easily accessible to both local residents and visitors seeking Chinese cuisine.

The restaurant can be contacted at (650) 872-2338 or via mobile at +1 650-872-2338 for inquiries, reservations (if applicable), or takeout orders. Its location on El Camino Real suggests it is likely a convenient option for those living or passing through the Millbrae area.

Based on customer reviews, the atmosphere of Tasty Place is described by one patron as "cozy," suggesting a comfortable and inviting setting for diners. This can be an important aspect of the overall dining experience, making patrons feel relaxed and welcome. The mention of a "wide array of dishes" also hints at a diverse menu that can cater to different tastes within Chinese cuisine.

The services offered at Tasty Place appear to include dine-in, as customers have mentioned eating at the establishment. Takeout is also likely available, given the phone numbers provided for contact. One positive review noted that the food came out "hot and fresh," indicating a focus on serving freshly prepared meals. The waitress was described as "nice" in one of the reviews, suggesting a positive interaction with the service staff.

The features of Tasty Place seem to encompass a variety of Chinese dishes. One satisfied customer highlighted the pork and Napa cabbage dumplings, broccoli beef with rice, and General Tso's chicken as being plentiful and enjoyable. This suggests that classic American-Chinese dishes are part of their offerings and are well-received. The same reviewer also expressed a wish to have tried the noodles, indicating they are also a noteworthy item on the menu.

However, another customer provided a more critical review, pointing out some potential areas for concern. This reviewer initially visited due to seeing pictures of the menu outside and noticing a faded Michelin 2019 sticker on the window, similar to a nearby well-regarded Szechuan restaurant. This created an expectation of high-quality Szechuan cuisine.

Upon being seated, the customer discovered that a dish they were specifically interested in, lotus root prepared in two ways, was no longer on the "new menu." This discrepancy between the advertised menu (via pictures outside) and the current offerings led to initial disappointment. The hot tea service in plastic cups was also noted as less than ideal.

Despite these initial setbacks, the customer decided to try some dishes, including spicy dumplings, squid with tentacles hot pot, mapo tofu, and spicy Dan Dan noodles. The spicy dumplings were described as having a "medium warm center" and "very average flavor." The squid tentacle hot pot was particularly disappointing, with an abundance of celery and a limited quantity of overcooked, rubbery squid tentacles. The mapo tofu was considered the best dish ordered, though still not exceptional compared to other options in the Bay Area. The spicy Dan Dan noodles were deemed "okay," but the overall experience was underwhelming for a self-proclaimed "foodie."

The critical review suggests a potential issue with consistency and quality across different dishes. It also raises concerns about the accuracy of the displayed menu and the implication of past accolades (the Michelin sticker) if the restaurant's standards or menu have significantly changed under potentially "new management." The reviewer felt it was somewhat of a "bait-and-switch" situation, leading to unmet expectations.

The waitress, while described as "nice," was also noted for being "pretty laid back" and not checking up on the table frequently, even though the restaurant was not busy. This indicates a potential area for improvement in attentiveness of service.

In summary, Tasty Place/品味嘉川菜 in Millbrae offers a cozy atmosphere and a diverse menu of Chinese dishes, including well-received classics like dumplings, broccoli beef, and General Tso's chicken. The noodles are also mentioned as a potentially good option. However, recent feedback suggests potential inconsistencies in food quality, particularly with more specialized dishes like the squid hot pot, and discrepancies between advertised and current menu offerings. The service is described as friendly but perhaps not consistently attentive. If you are in the Millbrae area and looking for a local Chinese restaurant with a wide variety of choices, Tasty Place might be worth considering, but it would be wise to manage expectations regarding specific dishes and perhaps inquire about the current menu beforehand. For more information or to place an order, you can contact them at (650) 872-2338 or +1 650-872-2338.

Such a cozy atmosphere with a wide array of dishes. Our food came out hot and fresh. It was us 3 so we ordered pork and Nappa cabbage dumplings, broccoli beef w/rice and general tso’s. Plenty to eat to your hearts delight. We would definitely come back. I wish I ordered the noodles because apparently they’re really good too. 10/10 would recommend

Ugh... I hate leaving negative reviews but I have to be honest. I walked by this place last month because it is maybe half a block down from Yummy Szechuan which is On Point delicious Szechuan eats. They had pictures of their menu out of side the door which was one of the reasons why I wanted to go back and try. I'm a big fan of lotus root and I saw two ways that they prepared there. I have an old faded Michelin 2019 taped on their window before you walk in as does Yummy Szechuan and being that the Bay Area brings on the best of the best Chinese food I thought I would give this place a try. When we sat down I was looking for a Lotus root on the menu and the waitress told us they don't have that on the new menu. We had ordered some hot tea which they basically put in plastic cups of hot water which I'm not a fan of but hey it was our first time there and just getting to know the place. Had we not ordered the tea before I found out the menu had changed we would have left. But I feel obligated to try out a new local joint. They had a squid with tentacles Hot Pot that I wanted to try so we stayed. And I always judge a Chinese Szechuan place by their mapo tofu bc I like the real deal mouth numbing Peppercorns in my mouth got that dish has to offer. We ordered the spicy dumplings which came out with a medium warm center very average in flavor. I should have sent it back but I figured I would just take it home and reheat it. The squid tentacle Hot Pot was very disappointing it was really heavy on the celery and the squid tentacles were underwhelming in quantity but it was the texture was really alarming for me...... it was like the squid tentacle concoction was sitting in something for a long time and had been overcooked because there was no chew to it and you couldn't even call it tender it was very disappointing to say the least. The Mapo tofu food was probably the best thing we ate... Not the best but it would be considered good if it was outside of the Bay Area. And we got the spicy Dan Dan noodles that were okay maybe they were better but I was just disappointed in the whole experience. It was like a bait-and-switch having the pictures of their menu items in a Michelin 2019 when it seems like it was Under New Management and you're tricked into walking to the place expecting something and being forced to order what you think is going to be at least good Szechuan in the Bay Area but it was far from it . They really should take down the photos of The Many Items they don't have anymore because it was the only reason I went back to that joint. The waitress was nice but she was pretty laid back and didn't check up on us and it wasn't that busy. I hate leaving reviews like this but if you're a foodie says one person like I am this is not the place to go to.

The Dragon Eggplant with Garlic Sauce is a visual masterpiece, not to mention utterly delicious with its unique presentation and mild flavor. It is of great significance to enjoy it at the year of the dragon!! And if you're into authentic spice, their Kong Pao Chicken hits the mark perfectly. With a perfect blend of heat and flavor, it's a must-try. However, it shouldn't have onions... Tasty Place is where creativity meets tradition, making every dish a delightful experience. For cool dishes, try their mixed of salad and fried fish is said to be among the best!

Wow the food is great. Such a surprise find. This restaurant is very close to another Sichuan restaurant and it's right next to a bbq restaurant so make sure you are going to the correct entrance. I recall coming to this place when I meant to go to the Sichuan restaurant so I left last time and I think it was a mistake to try this restaurant only after so many years. This restaurant is amazing. I don't know whether this changed owners but wow the food tastes so good. It's probably my favorite Chinese spicy food restaurant in the Peninsula now. The food portions are small but the prices reflect that and it's nice to see prices didn't go crazy for once. Even the way the ingredients are chopped can tell that the ones in the kitchen paid attention because the pieces are cut properly as opposed to other Chinese restaurants such as Wonderful (they should train the kitchen helper who to chop stuff there). Everything we ordered tastes great. I liked the frog dry pot. I also liked the spicy fish. The pork liver also is tender and flavorful. I really can't find any fault in terms of food here other than maybe presentation but who cares when they taste good. Even white rice tastes good and goes well with spicy food. The service is good and quick. The place is small but has decent number of tables. I don't recommend huge parties due to the space but I highly recommend this restaurant.

This Sichuan restaurant is a gem! The dry pot shredded cabbage is incredibly tasty, and the spicy hot pot with fresh fish slices is simply outstanding. The texture of the fresh fish fillets is so amazing. If you're a fan of Sichuan cuisine, this place is a must-try!
