Based on the customer reviews available online, Tasty Kitchen holds a cherished place in the hearts of many who have spent time in Davis. One group of college friends, returning for a visit, described the spot as a "must-visit for us Aggies!" This strong sentiment indicates that Tasty Kitchen is more than just a place to eat; it's a repository of fond memories and a tradition for those associated with the university. The fact that it brings back "so many great memories" suggests that the restaurant has been a consistent part of the Davis dining scene for a significant period.
During their recent visit, this group ordered dishes that were their college favorites, including the House Fried Rice, Hand-Shredded Chicken with Jellyfish, and Braised Tofu with Vegetables and Mushrooms. The reviewer specifically highlighted the Hand-Shredded Chicken with Jellyfish as their "all-time favorite!" They emphasized its "unique flavor," noting that it is "hard to find this unique flavor anywhere else," and were delighted that it tasted "just as delicious" as they remembered from their college days. This nostalgia, combined with the tasty food, made their dining experience particularly special. This suggests that Tasty Kitchen might specialize in certain unique or less commonly found Chinese dishes that have garnered a loyal following over the years.
Another reviewer, who was in Davis for work and craving Chinese food on a Monday night, shared a very positive first impression of Tasty Kitchen. Despite having go-to Chinese spots back home in Los Angeles, a city known for its diverse culinary scene, this reviewer was "pleasantly surprised by how good this place is." They were so impressed that they would "easily put them towards the TOP." This speaks volumes about the quality and authenticity of the food at Tasty Kitchen. The reviewer also highlighted the "big portions" and "fresh taste" of the food, as well as the "great selection to choose from." Their generous order of fried rice, chow mein, orange chicken, and broccoli beef for one person resulted in plenty of leftovers for lunch for the next two days, further emphasizing the substantial portions. This positive experience led the reviewer to conclude, "I will be back next chance I get," indicating a strong likelihood of repeat business from new customers as well.

The reviews provide limited information about the environment of Tasty Kitchen. The nostalgic connection mentioned by the alumni group suggests that the restaurant might have a long-standing presence in Davis, possibly with a familiar and comfortable, if not particularly modern, ambiance. The second reviewer, who was focused on getting takeout on a Monday night, did not comment on the dine-in atmosphere. Local users interested in dining at the restaurant might want to inquire about the seating arrangements and overall ambiance when they call or visit.
In terms of services, Tasty Kitchen clearly offers both dine-in and takeout options. The alumni group dined at the restaurant, while the second reviewer ordered takeout. The "great selection to choose from" suggests a comprehensive menu that caters to various tastes.

Our college friend group recently returned to Davis for a visit, and this spot is a must-visit for us Aggies! It holds a special place in our hearts, bringing back so many great memories. Each of us ordered a dish based on our college favorites: the House Fried Rice, Hand-Shredded Chicken with Jellyfish, and Braised Tofu with Vegetables and Mushrooms. The Hand-Shredded Chicken with Jellyfish remains my all-time favorite! It's hard to find this unique flavor anywhere else, and it tasted just as delicious as I remember from my college days. The food was tasty and nostalgic, making the experience even more special.
First off, I'm working in Davis from out of town and was craving Chinese food on a Monday night. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this place is. I love Chinese food and have my go to spots back home in Los Angeles but I'd easily put them towards the TOP. Big portions, fresh taste and a great selection to choose from. I ordered the fried rice, chow mein, orange chicken and broccoli beef and that was for one person. Had plenty for lunch the next two days. I will be back next chance I get 😌.
This is the second time we have eaten at this restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is very friendly. We are very happy and we will continue to come here.
Tasty Kitchen offers a family-style dining experience, which is great for a big group. We went with 8 people on a weekend night and were seated right away. No reservation needed. The restaurant has a casual vibe with lazy susan tables in the center of each booth, perfect for sharing dishes. However, the service was a bit of a letdown. Since it wasn't busy, the staff seemed relaxed to the point of inattentiveness. We frequently had to flag them down to order or ask for the bill. The food itself was decent. We ordered a variety of dishes like egg fried rice, orange chicken, chicken chow mein, cashew nut chicken, Mongolian beef, and kung pao beef. Most dishes were okay, but a little on the generic side. The orange chicken, a classic, was a bit too heavy on the sweet and sour sauce. A couple of us enjoyed the Mongolian beef, which had a nice savory flavor. Overall, Tasty Kitchen is a decent option for a casual family-style meal, especially for a large group.
This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who is from Shanghai and knows Chinese cuisine quite well. He told me it was the best Chinese food in the area and he was absolutely correct. The food was excellent! The orange chicken had a perfect texture and consistency. The chow mein was perfect, the fried rice was on point and my family loved all the dishes! The staff was friendly and the service was good! The whole experience and the quality was great and at a fair price. I can say it is the best Chinese food I have tried in the whole area and rivals the well known places in San Francisco!
