About Tasty Chef

True family run business. We were so impressed watching 3 generations running the business and cooking our food from scratch. The food was amazing. We will be back.

Family run place in food court with Asian take out fare. You can shop in the grocery store and select items to be cooked, $6 per pound. Nice selection and execution of traditional take out. Seasoning can be good but not consistent. Cashier not familiar with menu. Wait time can be excessive. Not the usual 20-25 minutes.

This is the most under rated eatery in this entire food court. The main chef here also owns snack planet in Chinatown and worked as a Cantonese chef at a large restaurant for years beforehand too. Check this out: purchase fresh and live seafood from the grocery store and have them whip it up any way you like it for a small fee!

Ordered the lunch special General Tzo chicken and it was very good. This had more of a tangy taste than I am normally used to with general chicken but in no way was it bad. The vegetables were cooked great for how I like them. They still had a great crunch to them while eating. Plenty of sauce in the bottom of the container as well to mix the rice with. Really good place.

5/2024: WillTravel✈️ForFood🥣 An hour is well worth the trek for the delicious lamb ribs- the fried dry garlic topping is so delish. We got 3 ☺️ Taishanese cauliflowers were perfectly seasoned two ways. Chef put a nice mix of woodsear, nagaimo, carrot 🥕, celery in one and an amazing malai sauce the other. Steamed shrimp 🦐 with bean threads topped with minced garlic was as good as it looks per family. So it helps that we speak Cantonese/Mandarin but they are super friendly regardless. Good food requires waiting especially there is only 1 chef. The chef needs a Michelin ⭐️ 2023: Yes 🙌 Cantonese food lives 😂 It has been a discouraging decade as Chinatown’s Cantonese chefs retired. But alas Red Pepper delivers. 🐑 Lamb with garlic tempura crumble - I will go to the gym for you 🥰 🐠 Ginger fish - light and yum 🥗 Green beans - ask to skip the meat 🥣 Salty fish and chicken fried rice - the defining Cantonese dish Worth the 80 mins drive from Chicago. 😝
