About Taste Wei Chinese & Japanese Restaurant

Welcome to Taste Wei Chinese & Japanese Restaurant, a culinary establishment located at 21303 Olhava Way NW, Poulsbo, WA 98370, USA. For local users in Poulsbo and the surrounding areas, Taste Wei presents an opportunity to enjoy a diverse range of Asian flavors, from familiar Chinese favorites to the delicate artistry of Japanese cuisine.

The initial impression of Taste Wei might be unassuming, as one reviewer noted that it "doesn’t look like much from the outside." Situated in the vicinity of a Walmart parking lot, it might be easily overlooked. However, this exterior belies the pleasant culinary surprises that await within. This "hidden gem" status suggests that Taste Wei offers a quality of food that exceeds expectations based on its outward appearance and location.

Upon entering Taste Wei, customers can expect to be seated promptly, as indicated by a reviewer who was seated immediately during an off-peak dining hour. This suggests efficient and attentive service, ensuring a comfortable start to the dining experience. While one reviewer mentioned that the "atmosphere is confusing," they also noted that this is quickly forgotten once the food arrives, implying that the quality of the cuisine takes precedence over the décor.

The standout feature of Taste Wei is undoubtedly the quality of its food, particularly its Chinese dishes. One reviewer frankly admitted that they were expecting average Americanized Chinese food but were pleasantly surprised to receive food that was "better than average by a decent margin." This positive deviation from expectations highlights the skill and care taken in the kitchen. The restaurant comes "highly recommended" based on this delightful culinary surprise.

Several specific dishes have garnered high praise from patrons. The walnut shrimp is described as "amazing, plump and beautifully cooked." This suggests a dish where the shrimp is prepared to perfection, likely featuring a delicate balance of sweetness and crunch in the walnut coating. The bacon fried rice is another highlight, with a reviewer noting that it "actually contained enough bacon to earn its name," indicating a generous and flavorful rendition of this classic dish.

The wonton soup also received positive feedback, arriving "steaming upon arrival and continued to stay hot" throughout the meal. The wontons themselves were described as "perfect," neither overly crunchy nor oily, suggesting a well-executed version of this comforting soup. These specific mentions provide a glimpse into the quality and care that Taste Wei puts into its Chinese menu.

Looking towards its Japanese offerings, Taste Wei has plans to feature sushi. One reviewer expressed sadness that the restaurant might be "getting lost within the fast food restaurants that surround it" and voiced a hope to see business grow again so that the sushi can "hit as hard as its pictures!" This indicates that the anticipation for their sushi is high, and it is likely to be prepared with the same level of quality and attention to detail as their Chinese dishes. The inclusion of both Chinese and Japanese cuisine under one roof offers a unique opportunity for diners to explore different Asian flavors in a single visit.

For local users in Poulsbo, Taste Wei Chinese & Japanese Restaurant represents a hidden culinary gem that offers a more refined experience than its exterior might suggest. One of the more pleasant culinary surprises in a long time. I was in the WalMart parking lot charging my car, needed to kill some time, and was hungry. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but I hadn’t had Chinese in a while and said, why not? Let’s do it. I was seated immediately (it was a odd dining hour). To my very pleasant surprise, the food was really good! Frankly, I was expecting average Americanized Chinese food and I ended up with better than average by a decent margin. Highly recommended.

This place is a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is confusing, but all that is forgotten once the food arrives. The walnut shrimp is amazing, plump and beautifully cooked. Bacon fried rice actually contained enough bacon to earn its name. Wonton soup was steaming upon arrival and continued to stay hot as we served up our food. Wontons are perfect! Not overly crunchy or oily. The pandemic hit this place hard and it’s sad to see it getting lost within the fast food restaurants that surround it. Would love to see business begin to grow again, so sushi can hit as hard as its pictures! Don’t be discouraged when you walk through the doors, take a seat and enjoy this hidden gem before it’s gone.

I only gave a 4 star atmosphere because the place was empty. The food is great, and service is always fabulous.

The food was fantastic, it was made fresh. There is no MSG in the food. The music was very relaxing, the back of the booths were really high so you couldn't see the other guests and it was quiet enough so you could carry on a conversation and hear each other. The waitress was fantastic and had my moms dish made to leave out foods she was allergic to. I can't wait to go back!!

Biggest disappointment was that they have recently removed most of all their sushi from the menu. Great place for takeout. They really have to comes up with something to get the bar and restaurant filled. It could use some additional cleaning and tidying. We were the only ones there almost the entire time. Service and food was good. Great place for larger families and parties. Great view.
