About Taste of Szechuan

Located in the bustling NE 82nd Avenue area of Portland, Oregon, specifically within a parking lot setting at 1411 NE 82nd Ave, Taste of Szechuan distinguishes itself as a purveyor of authentic Szechuan cuisine. For local users seeking a genuine taste of the Sichuan province without venturing to downtown Portland or Beaverton, Taste of Szechuan offers a welcome and highly praised culinary haven within the Chinese Restaurant category.

The primary feature of Taste of Szechuan, consistently highlighted in customer reviews, is the authenticity and exceptional flavor of its food. Patrons have expressed immense satisfaction in finally discovering a restaurant in NE Portland that serves truly authentic Szechuan dishes. One reviewer specifically lauded the Mapo Tofu as the best they have encountered, noting the use of real, tender diced beef and a flavorful sauce that avoids the overly thick and chili-heavy consistency found in some other establishments. This attention to detail and authentic preparation sets Taste of Szechuan apart and appeals to those with a discerning palate for genuine Sichuan flavors.

Beyond the acclaimed Mapo Tofu, customers have raved about the overall deliciousness of every dish they ordered, indicating a consistent high standard across the menu. Another reviewer enthusiastically confirmed the legitimacy of the Sichuan food served at Taste of Szechuan, recommending that diners inquire about their specialties to fully experience the culinary offerings. This suggests that the restaurant takes pride in its authentic recipes and may have off-menu or less commonly known dishes worth exploring for those seeking a more adventurous gastronomic journey.

Two additional dishes that received specific praise are the beef chow fun and the smacked cucumber salad. The beef chow fun was described as delicious, indicating a well-prepared and flavorful noodle dish, a staple in many Chinese restaurants but likely elevated with authentic Szechuan touches at this establishment. The smacked cucumber salad was so enjoyable that one reviewer "could not stop eating it," highlighting its refreshing and addictive qualities, likely featuring the signature numbing and spicy notes characteristic of Sichuan cuisine.

Complementing the exceptional food at Taste of Szechuan is the consistently praised service. Customers have described the staff as "great," "very helpful," and "friendly." This welcoming and attentive service enhances the overall dining experience, making patrons feel comfortable and well-cared for. The positive interactions with the staff contribute to the likelihood of repeat visits and positive recommendations to others.

The owner of Taste of Szechuan has also been specifically mentioned for their friendly demeanor. The personal touch of a welcoming owner can create a more inviting and hospitable atmosphere, fostering a sense of community and connection with the diners. This personal engagement can significantly elevate a restaurant from just a place to eat to a cherished local spot.

While the address indicates a location within a parking lot, the positive reviews overwhelmingly focus on the quality of the food and service, suggesting that the perhaps unconventional setting does not detract from the overall positive dining experience. In fact, the focus on the authentic cuisine may make the location a worthwhile visit for those prioritizing flavor and genuine cultural dishes over elaborate ambiance.

For local users in NE Portland and surrounding areas, Taste of Szechuan offers a valuable alternative to traveling further for authentic Sichuan food. The positive feedback from multiple customers underscores the restaurant's commitment to quality and flavor. Whether you are a longtime enthusiast of Szechuan cuisine or new to its bold and complex flavors, Taste of Szechuan appears to be a reliable and highly recommended choice.

The phone numbers provided, (503) 252-8788 and +1 503-252-8788, offer convenient ways to contact the restaurant for inquiries about their menu, hours of operation, takeout options, or to make reservations, if needed. Given the positive reviews and the apparent popularity of their authentic dishes, it might be wise to call ahead, especially during peak dining hours.

In conclusion, Taste of Szechuan in NE Portland offers a genuine and delicious Szechuan culinary experience characterized by authentic flavors, expertly prepared dishes like the highly recommended Mapo Tofu and beef chow fun, and a refreshing smacked cucumber salad. The friendly and helpful staff, along with a welcoming owner, further enhance the dining experience. Despite its location in a parking lot, the focus on food quality and service makes Taste of Szechuan a must-try for local users seeking a true taste of Sichuan in their neighborhood.

We’re so happy to finally find an authentic Szechuan food restaurant in NE Portland without going to downtown or Beaverton. The Mapo Tofu is the best with real tender diced beef. It’s very flavorful not like other restaurants with thick hot chilly sauce. Every dish we ordered tonight was very delicious. The staff and owner are very friendly. We will definitely come back again.

Delicious stop that we are so glad we tried! The ambiance leaves some to be desired but the food is so well done. Bold flavor profiles, fresh, and the lunch special is very good value. We ordered General Tso’s chicken and Double Pepper Beef!

Came here with my partner to celebrate Valentines because everywhere else was packed - was a chance encounter. It was nice to find a place that does more traditional food. It wasn't just the fast-food regular stuff there were so many alternative unique options. We had the Sesame Chicken (a safe choice) and Tofu/Beef bowl. The heat on the beef bowl was no joke! It creeps up on you after a few bites and is an immediate warm up.

Entrees are about $20 a plate but the servings are massive and the flavors incredible. Szechuan peppers sort of numb your tongue and it's my goal to try every interesting dish on this menu. It seems they're currently getting the larger share of their business from take-out orders but I enjoyed the authentic retro vibes of the interior and the friendly & enthusiastic, albeit busy, staff. They do have some wine and beer. This restaurant marks another exciting step forward for 82nd Ave!
