About Taste of Sichuan
Taste of Sichuan is an Asian restaurant located at 515 State St in Madison, Wisconsin (WI 53703), USA. As a Chinese restaurant with a focus on the distinctive Sichuan culinary style, Taste of Sichuan aims to offer local users a taste of authentic and often spicy flavors from the Sichuan province of China. They can be contacted at (608) 819-6784 or their mobile number +1 608-819-6784 for inquiries or reservations.
According to customer reviews, Taste of Sichuan has garnered a reputation for serving bold and spicy Asian cuisine, making it a notable option for those who appreciate intense flavors. One reviewer specifically recommended it to individuals craving authentic Sichuan-style dishes, highlighting the flavorful and satisfying nature of the food. This suggests that the restaurant specializes in the characteristic麻辣 (málà) – numbing and spicy – tastes that Sichuan cuisine is known for.
A significant feature of Taste of Sichuan, as mentioned by a satisfied customer, is the availability of a wide range of vegetarian options. This is particularly appealing to vegetarian diners with an affinity for Asian flavors. The reviewer noted that many of these vegetarian dishes are well-suited to Asian taste preferences, implying that they are thoughtfully prepared and flavorful. This suggests that Taste of Sichuan caters not only to meat-eaters seeking spicy food but also offers a substantial and appealing selection for vegetarians.
Another positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the restaurant's ability to accommodate large groups. One customer who visited twice with large parties reported that they were easily seated at big tables without the need for a reservation. This indicates that Taste of Sichuan is a suitable venue for group dining, whether for casual gatherings or special occasions. The spaciousness and accommodating nature for larger parties can be a significant draw for those planning group outings.
Despite the positive feedback regarding the bold flavors, vegetarian options, and group accommodation, one customer reported a less satisfactory experience with a specific dish, the shrimp fried rice. This reviewer noted a significant discrepancy between the actual dish received and the photo displayed outside the restaurant. The shrimp in the dish were described as pale, small, and tasteless, resembling thaw-and-eat shrimp, unlike the large, stir-fried shrimp depicted in the photo. Additionally, the fried rice contained chopped vegetables and scrambled egg, which were not shown in the photo. This suggests potential inconsistencies in food preparation and presentation, and a possible issue with the accuracy of promotional materials.
The same reviewer also mentioned their wife's sesame chicken, which she enjoyed, although the reviewer found it to be tough. This further indicates a potential variability in the quality and preparation of different dishes on the menu. The overall negative experience led this customer to state that they would not return to Taste of Sichuan.
Based on the available reviews, Taste of Sichuan appears to be a restaurant that excels in providing bold and spicy Sichuan flavors, with a notable selection of vegetarian dishes and the capacity to comfortably accommodate large groups. These are significant features that could appeal to specific segments of the local dining community in Madison. However, there are also concerns raised about the consistency and quality of certain dishes, as well as the accuracy of food presentation compared to promotional images.
Information regarding the ambiance or specific environment of Taste of Sichuan is limited to the mention of "big tables" suitable for groups. Details about the overall decor, atmosphere, or noise levels are not provided. Similarly, the primary services mentioned are dine-in (with accommodation for large groups) and potentially takeout, although this is not explicitly stated. Delivery services are not mentioned in the reviews provided.
There is no information available regarding any current promotional offers or signature dishes beyond the general focus on spicy Sichuan cuisine and the positive mentions of the vegetarian options. To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the menu, the dining environment, and any special offers, local users may want to visit the restaurant's website (if available), explore online ordering platforms, or contact them directly by phone.
In conclusion, Taste of Sichuan in Madison, WI, offers a dining experience centered around bold and spicy Sichuan flavors, with a significant array of vegetarian choices and the ability to handle large groups without reservations. While some customers have praised the authentic taste and satisfying food, others have reported issues with the quality and presentation of specific dishes. Local users seeking spicy Asian cuisine and vegetarian options may find Taste of Sichuan worth trying, especially if dining with a large group. However, it is advisable to be aware of the potential for inconsistencies in food quality based on the mixed customer feedback.

Customer Reviews
Taste of Sichuan is a great Asian restaurant in Madison, especially if you enjoy bold, spicy flavors. They offer a wide range of vegetarian options, many of which are well-suited to Asian taste buds. The food is flavorful and satisfying, making it a solid choice for anyone craving authentic Sichuan-style dishes. I’ve visited the place twice and both times I went with a large group. They easily accommodated us with big tables, and I didn’t even need to make a reservation. So it’s a good option for group dining as well. Overall, highly recommended for those looking for a spicy and authentic Asian food experience in Madison.
I ordered the shrimp fried rice and it barely resembled the photo outside the restaurant. The shrimp on the photo were large and looked stir-fried. The shrimp I got were pale, small and tasteless- they looked like thaw and eat shrimp. The fried rice had a lot of chopped vegetables in it and scrambled egg, neither of which were in the photo. My wife liked her sesame chicken, though I found it to be tough. We won't go back.
The braised pork tasted very salty and was definitely below average. We ordered the braised pork. It was very different from the picture on the menu. Too much soy sauce. When we told them our review at checkout, the first thing they did was not to apologize but to blame us for not telling them earlier. I am not looking for compensation, but for a sincere apology from them. Not even a "sorry" in the end.
Nice atmosphere, the servers were very friendly and attentive. The Pork Blood, Beef Stomach and Soybean Sprout Stew wasn’t for me personally, but still tasted very good, and the Ox Tongue with Tripe Chili Sauce was amazing. The only slight criticism I have is that the portion sizes are ludicrously huge. Seriously, if you’re thinking of eating here, bring some friends because a bowl of that stew could feed a family of 6.
Stopped by here for a quick bite. The service was really fast and we were greeted and seated almost immediately. The place has nothing special to it decor-wise. Wouldn't say it's a fancy place or anything. Most of the other patrons seemed to be college students. I was there with some old college friends and family. Great atmosphere to just catch up over food. The menu seemed to have more authentic Chinese food rather than focus on the Americanized things like Crab ragoons and orange chicken. They had bull frogs, duck, and other options. Very nice selection. And very fairly priced. I had the Mongolian beef. We also got country style pork and beef fried rice. All were generously portioned enough to share. The food tasted great and I will definitely be going back. Overall If you're looking for good Chinese food location, this is a great spot. Beware their food isn't exactly like the typical Chinese-American restaurant (but they do have those options too). Not a place that would impress a date on the first night. But definitely would be great to go with friends. Only down side was we never got water refills.
