As a dedicated establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, Taste of Orient strives to provide a diverse culinary experience, blending familiar Chinese-American comfort food with intriguing Filipino flavors. Whether you're a local resident or just passing through Wiscasset and craving Asian cuisine, Taste of Orient offers a welcoming environment and a menu designed to satisfy a variety of palates.
Stepping into Taste of Orient, you'll likely find yourself immersed in a familiar and comforting atmosphere, reminiscent of classic American Chinese restaurants. The ambiance is often described as quiet and relaxing, providing a pleasant backdrop for your dining experience. While specific details about the décor are not extensively available online, customer feedback suggests a traditional and inviting setting where you can comfortably enjoy your meal.
The service at Taste of Orient appears to be a highlight for many patrons. Reviews consistently praise the staff for their kindness and welcoming demeanor. This emphasis on friendly and attentive service can significantly enhance your overall dining experience, making you feel valued and well-cared for from the moment you arrive until you leave.
The culinary offerings at Taste of Orient present an interesting fusion. While the menu features a range of your favorite classic Chinese-American dishes, such as General Tso's Chicken, Chow Mein, and Fried Rice (though specific mentions are absent in the provided reviews), a unique aspect of this restaurant is the inclusion of traditional Filipino dishes. This is reportedly due to the Filipino heritage of the owners. One particularly praised item is the Filipino Egg Rolls, which are described as lighter and crispier than their traditional Chinese counterparts, packed with flavorful fillings. This blend of cuisines offers an opportunity to explore new tastes alongside familiar favorites, setting Taste of Orient apart from typical Chinese restaurants.
One specific dish that received positive feedback is the Peking Duck. Customers have noted its beautifully flavored spiced sauce and the tenderness and moistness of the duck meat. It's worth noting, as mentioned in a review, that the Peking Duck does contain bones, so diners should be mindful of this while enjoying the dish. The inclusion of vegetables in the Peking Duck is also appreciated for adding a balanced element to the richness of the duck.
While the majority of the provided feedback highlights positive aspects such as the atmosphere, service, and specific dishes like the Filipino Egg Rolls and Peking Duck, it's important to acknowledge that not all experiences have been uniformly positive. One review expresses significant dissatisfaction with the food quality, citing issues with preparation methods and the freshness of ingredients. This review mentions concerns about pan-fried dumplings being deep-fried and a Garlic Chicken dish that was perceived as being far from authentic, even suggesting the use of leftover ingredients. This negative feedback serves as a reminder that individual experiences can vary, and it's always wise to consider a range of opinions.
Despite the contrasting reviews, Taste of Orient presents itself as a local option for those in Wiscasset seeking an alternative to American food or pizza. The combination of classic Chinese-American dishes and the unique addition of Filipino cuisine offers a broader range of choices that might appeal to diverse tastes. The positive comments regarding the welcoming service and comfortable atmosphere suggest a restaurant that values its customers.

Customer Reviews
I've heard mixed reviews of the Taste Of Orient, so I can only speak of my experiences. The atmosphere is nice, comforting, and quiet, very much the classic American Chinese Restaurant atmosphere. They sometimes have a buffet, but I haven't been there when they had it open. I have had amazing service every time I've been there, very kind and welcoming staff. For this visit I had the Filipino Egg Rolls, Peking Duck, and hot tea. I love the Filipino Egg Rolls, they aren't as heavy feeling as traditional Chinese Egg Rolls that most of us are used to, they are crispy and flavourful. The Peking Duck has a beautiful flavourful spiced sauce, and is tender and moist (there are bones so be aware of that when you bite into a piece). The vegetables help to bring a nice balance to the dish. I have been told that the owners are Filipino, which is why you will find traditional Filipino dishes on the menu,as well as all of your favourite classic Chinese American comfort foods. If your looking for something other than American Food or Pizza while in Wiscasset check out Taste Of Orient.
This is the absolute worst Chinese food I’ve ever had in my entire life. It could be because I myself am chef and cooked in NYC, but that doesn’t explain why the pan fried dumplings were deep fried or why my garlic chicken was closer to shepherds pie filling than anything Chinese. I mean there were bits of deep fried grizzle in the sauce. I’m damn near positive that they had a slow night, the cook had already started cleaning and got pissed that an order came in 45 min before close and shoveled a bunch of shit left over from other dishes into a to go container and passed it off to the lady in the front. This food was disgusting. What a waste of money.
I heard mixed reviews about the Taste of Orient and I’m not sure why. This place was absolutely amazing. When we first walked in, we were met by a very friendly and sweet waiter who went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. If she didn’t know the answer to a question about the food, she happily went and found the answer. She often checked in to make sure we were doing good and was very attentive. The food was superbe too. Whether the sauce was sweet and sour or duck sauce, it was very flavorful and you could taste subtle notes of pineapple, apples, etc. The tofu was also some of the best I’ve had at a restaurant; it was crispy and well made. All in all, would recommend visiting here.
Took over an hour for our food and the lo mein was gross and chicken tasted not cooked enough for the price you pay. It was soggy
Great food! This is my second time eating here lots of food for the price! I got the #17 with wontons. It looks amazing! I am sure i will not be disappointed!
