About Taste of Four Seasons 四季家宴
Located at 1711 El Camino Real in Millbrae, California, Taste of Four Seasons 四季家宴 positions itself as a family-style restaurant within the Chinese Restaurant category, offering a broad range of Cantonese cuisine. Based on customer reviews, this establishment aims to provide a comprehensive dining experience characterized by spacious seating, attentive service, and a menu featuring both classic and potentially unique Cantonese dishes.
One enthusiastic reviewer described Taste of Four Seasons 四季家宴 as offering a "great overall dining experience." They specifically highlighted the presence of "plenty of space," suggesting a comfortable and uncrowded environment suitable for families and larger groups. The service was also commended as "excellent," with the waiters and waitresses noted for being "always attentive to your needs." This focus on both the physical space and the quality of service contributes positively to the overall dining atmosphere.
The food at Taste of Four Seasons 四季家宴 received high praise from this particular reviewer, who found it to be "absolutely delicious" and the quality to be "beyond expectations." As a native Cantonese, this reviewer offered valuable insights into the authenticity and quality of specific dishes, recommending the "roasted goose, lobster with noodle, and clay-pot rice" as must-try items. This endorsement from someone familiar with the cuisine adds significant weight to the appeal of these dishes.
Further illustrating the positive experience, the reviewer recounted bringing their family for a Chinese New Year (CYN) dinner. During this celebration, the owner of the restaurant displayed generosity by making them a "steamed bum tree." This gesture suggests a personal touch and a willingness to go above and beyond for their customers, enhancing the sense of hospitality and family-style dining.
The positive reviewer concluded by expressing their intention to return with friends and readily recommending Taste of Four Seasons 四季家宴 to others. This strong word-of-mouth endorsement speaks to a satisfying and memorable dining experience that they were eager to share.
However, it is important to consider a contrasting review that presents a less favorable experience with specific dishes. This reviewer focused on the "claypot rice," noting that the "rice was very hard - not like the crispy good hard. It was so hard that chewing it was a chore." This detailed critique points to a potential inconsistency in the preparation of a dish that was recommended by another reviewer. The texture of rice is a crucial element in many Asian cuisines, and this feedback suggests a significant issue with this particular preparation.
The same negative reviewer also commented on the "beef brisket rice noodle rolls," describing them as "interesting but it fell apart way too easily." The observation that "The plate was full of broken rice noodles as we tried to eat it..." indicates a structural problem with the dish that detracted from the eating experience. Additionally, they noted that "there wasn't enough sauce on it too," suggesting a lack of balance in flavor and moisture. The reviewer also expressed a personal dislike for the inclusion of lettuce in this dish, indicating a potential mismatch of ingredients or personal preference.
Considering both reviews, the dining experience at Taste of Four Seasons 四季家宴 appears to be somewhat inconsistent. While one customer raved about the overall experience, the delicious food (particularly the roasted goose, lobster with noodle, and potentially other dishes not mentioned), excellent service, and spacious environment, another encountered significant issues with the preparation and quality of the clay-pot rice and the beef brisket rice noodle rolls.
The positive aspects of Taste of Four Seasons 四季家宴 include its family-style approach, spacious dining area, and attentive service. The recommendation of specific dishes by a native Cantonese speaker suggests that the restaurant has the potential to deliver authentic and high-quality Cantonese cuisine. The generous gesture of the owner further highlights a commitment to customer satisfaction.
However, the negative feedback regarding the texture of the clay-pot rice and the structural issues with the beef brisket rice noodle rolls indicates potential inconsistencies in food preparation or quality control for certain menu items. This suggests that while some dishes may be exceptional, others might not meet the same standards.
For local users considering Taste of Four Seasons 四季家宴, the available information suggests a restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere and generally good service. If you appreciate spacious dining and are interested in trying the recommended roasted goose, lobster with noodle, or other Cantonese specialties, it might be worth a visit. However, it would be prudent to be aware of the potential for inconsistencies in certain dishes, as highlighted in one of the reviews. Perhaps inquiring about the preparation of specific items or paying close attention to recent feedback might be helpful in making an informed decision. Taste of Four Seasons 四季家宴 offers the promise of a great family-style Cantonese dining experience, but it's essential to acknowledge the mixed reviews regarding food quality across all menu items.

This is a family-style restaurant offers a great overall dining experience. with plenty of space and excellent service. The food was absolutely delicious and the quality is beyond expectations. As a native Cantonese, the roasted goose, lobster with noodle, and clay-pot rice are must-try, in my opinion. There are plenty of space and the service was excellent that the waiters/waitresses were always attentive to your needs. I brought my family for CYN dinner and the owner was so generous to made us a steamed bum tree. I would come back with friend and I would recommend this place.
The claypot rice's rice was very hard - not like the crispy good hard. It was so hard that chewing it was a chore. The beef brisket rice noodle rolls was interesting but it fell apart way too easily. The plate was full of broken rice noodles as we tried to eat it... and there wasn't enough sauce on it too. I didn't think the lettuce went well on this dish.
Food was great. They’re known for their spicy grilled fish and it did not disappoint. I’m not a big fan of mala but this fish was so well-cooked the mala flavor really didn’t bother me and in fact I quite enjoyed the taste with the savoriness of the fish. Unfortunately my spice tolerance is not that high so I could not eat a lot without my mouth dying but I still enjoyed it (and I think they allow you to adjust the spiciness so you can get it less spicy). But I really liked their salted egg and shrimp dish. Very flavorful. Also I liked their griddle cooked cabbage. It was very savory. Their cumin lamb tasted great, but I wish it had more lamb pieces. There were a lot of onion pieces (which I still liked and were very flavorful). Service was good as well. They only had 2 people working on the day we came (Sunday evening), yet the food came out in a timely manner. And they got me a spoon when I requested one, which I appreciate. The restaurant interior is nicely decorated with traditional Chinese pieces on the walls, which makes you feel like you are back in a royal Chinese courtyard. We parked in a small lot nearby. There is also street parking as well.
Food: 15/10 Service: 10/10 Atmosphere: 10/10 Overall Rating: 12/10 Experience: I'm from the central Midwest and have travelled internationally to many countries so I have a wide interest in trying new foods wherever I go. Earl Spicy was the first "hot pot restaurant" search option that came up on Google and we hit the jackpot! We stayed in San Francisco for 3 days and ate dinner here each day. Immediately as you walk in, it smells like spices and you'll be welcomed by a friendly woman who is one of the owners. Do not be deterred by the lack of people or even the "older" look the restaurant has - it will add to the charm and warmth of being at a "mom and pop" shop. The menu is extensive, so much so it can be intimidating! But rest assured that EVERYTHING, and I mean everything, was exceptional. Nothing I put in my mouth at this restaurant was less than amazing. We have been to China before for long periods of time and this food took us right back to Shanghai and Xiamen. As we can regularily the owner explained to us that they owned two popular restaurants in China before coming to America for their daughter and opening one here. They also explained there is a patron from Sacramento who comes once a month to enjoy their spicy fish because it is just that good; and we agree. The owner, and wife, gave us recommendations every day and we were happy to accept and they were absolutly amazing. If she recommends, accept it with gratitude and enjoy! The prices reflect their quality of food and be sure to tip because they work hard; she explained that she makes the seasame golden cake and leek pancakes fresh every morning. Here is what we ordered over three days: Golden Seasame Pancake Spicy Fish (Medium Size) Egg Fried Rice Beef Fried Rice Leek Pancake Dumplings Pumpkin Cake Patty Princess Chicken Wings Numbing Chicken Pot Please take time to enjoy this warm, exciting, and authentic restaurant. You will never be disappointed here. I will always recommend and visit this restaurant whenever I am around or whenever someone asks. Happy Eating!
My family went to Earl Spicy in Millbrea for the first time in celebrating my daughter's birthday. To our surprise, all 8 dishes ordered taste very good with unique flavors. The waiter, owner's wife, told us they operated 2 large restaurants in China. They moved to Bay area 4 years ago because the whole China economy was cooling down. They try to use the same ingredients if possible. If anyone want to try real Chinese foods instead of compromised ones, take a visit. Not all dishes are spicy like Tea Smoked Duck. It's very good. The attached menu was an old one. The current price is about 20% higher like everybody else due to cost shot up. A restaurant can lower quality to deal with inflation, but I prefer paying the price to maintain the quality. I'm an engineer, we won't accept lowing quality to save cost. Look what happened to 737 Max. I respect and like Earl's spirit. Keep it up. Earl.
