About Taste of China

Taste of China is a Chinese restaurant located at 5030 Plank Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22407, USA. As a local establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, Taste of China has been serving the community for several years. According to recent customer feedback, their service model has shifted to exclusively carryout and delivery since the COVID-19 pandemic. They can be contacted at (540) 785-6688 or via mobile at +1 540-785-6688 for placing orders and inquiries.

One long-time customer, who discovered Taste of China about seven years ago when they lived nearby, still considers it the "Best local Chinese" despite now living 30 minutes away. This loyal patron mentioned that while they don't get there as often due to the distance, they still appreciate the great food and good lunch specials that Taste of China offers. In a recent order, they enjoyed the General Tso's chicken and Sesame chicken with fried rice, describing the food as "delicious" and noting the "huge portions," often large enough to share for lunch. This reviewer also praised the "very friendly staff," the "great menu options," and the reasonable prices, concluding that a visit to Taste of China would not be regrettable.

However, another recent customer shared a more critical experience, indicating a decline in their perception of Taste of China, which was previously their "go-to Chinese restaurant." While acknowledging that the food had historically been delicious and fresh with fast delivery, this customer expressed significant disappointment with a recent order of Singapore Rice Noodles with Vegetables, among three other dishes. They reported receiving plain noodles with only onions and celery slivers, contrary to their expectation of a vegetable dish. Upon calling the restaurant, they were informed that this was how the dish was prepared. When they inquired about the absence of other vegetables like broccoli and carrots, which were visibly present in the menu photo of the shrimp version of the same dish, they were told that the "Vegetables one doesn’t have them." The customer included a photo of what they received, highlighting the discrepancy with the menu image.

This customer expressed frustration with the explanation they received, where the staff member essentially implied it was the customer's fault for not specifically asking about the vegetables included in the vegetable version of the Singapore Rice Noodles. The reviewer found this reasoning unsatisfactory, especially given the visual representation on the menu. As a result of this experience, this former loyal customer stated their intention to seek out other Chinese restaurants nearby that presumably offer more vegetables in their vegetable dishes.

Considering these two recent reviews, Taste of China appears to have a history of providing delicious food and good value, with friendly staff and generous portions being notable positives. The availability of lunch specials also adds to its appeal. However, there seems to be a potential issue with the consistency or accuracy of certain menu items, particularly concerning the description and preparation of the Singapore Rice Noodles with Vegetables. The discrepancy between the menu's visual representation and the actual dish received, coupled with the customer service response, raises concerns about menu accuracy and customer communication.

The reviews provide limited information about the environment of Taste of China, as the restaurant is currently operating solely on a carryout and delivery basis. Therefore, there is no recent feedback on the dine-in ambiance or cleanliness of the physical space. The focus of the reviews is primarily on the food quality, portion sizes, and customer service interactions related to ordering and delivery/carryout.

In terms of services, Taste of China currently offers carryout and delivery. The positive review mentioned fast delivery in the past, suggesting efficiency in their delivery operations. The staff is described as "very friendly" by one customer, indicating a positive service interaction during order placement or pickup. However, the negative review highlights a lack of helpfulness and a perceived dismissiveness when addressing a concern about a menu item, suggesting potential inconsistencies in customer service quality depending on the situation or staff member.

Key features of Taste of China appear to be the delicious food (as reported by one reviewer and historically by another), the large portion sizes offering good value, and the friendly staff encountered by some customers. The availability of lunch specials is also a notable feature. However, a potential negative feature is the apparent discrepancy between the menu description/visuals and the actual dish served, as highlighted by the issue with the Singapore Rice Noodles with Vegetables, along with a customer service response that did not resolve the customer's dissatisfaction.

Currently, the positive review mentions "good lunch specials," indicating that Taste of China does offer some promotional pricing during lunchtime. However, no specific details about these specials are provided. Local users interested in Taste of China may want to inquire directly about their current lunch specials and any other ongoing promotions or deals they might have for carryout and delivery orders.

In conclusion, Taste of China in Fredericksburg, VA, has received positive feedback for its delicious food, generous portions, friendly staff, and good lunch specials. However, a recent negative experience regarding a menu item's accuracy and the customer service response to the issue raises a point of concern for potential customers. While some long-time patrons remain loyal due to the quality and value, new customers should be aware of the possibility of discrepancies between the menu and the food received, and perhaps exercise caution by clarifying any questions about dishes when placing their orders. Overall, Taste of China seems to have a solid reputation for its food, but attention to menu accuracy and customer service responsiveness could further enhance the customer experience, especially in their current carryout and delivery-only operation.

Best local Chinese. Found this great place about 7 years ago near our old house, We don't get there as often now as they are 30 min away from our new house. Since COVID they are only carryout & delivery service now. Great food, good lunch specials. Today we ordered General Tso's & Sesame chicken with fried rice. Food was delicious, huge portions, we usually can share one for lunch. Very friendly staff, great menu options, & prices!! You won't regret going here!

Well unfortunately this was my go to Chinese restaurant but not anymore. The food has always been delicious and fresh and the delivery fast. Today I tried, among 3 other dishes the Singapore Rice Noodles w Vegetables. What I got was plain noodles with no veggies other than the onion and celery slivers. I called and was told that that’s gow they come. When I asked where the other veggies were like broccoli and carrots (which are clearly evident from the photo in their menu of the one w the shrimp) I was told that the Vegetables one doesn’t have them. Other photo is what I got. Why advertise a Vegetable Dish that doesn’t even have the same vegetables that you put into the dish with meat? Girl basically told me it was my fault because I didn’t specifically ask what vegetables were going to be in it. Hmmmmm!! Oh well. Plenty of other delicious chinese restaurants nearby that I’m sure offer vegetables in their vegetable dishes!!

First time ordering. The bourbon chicken was hard and tasted leftover or like it's been sittting in the sauce and they just warmed it up. My daughter had tofu and said it was very soggy. Not sure I'll order again.

I ordered the large spicy shrimp and broccoli with fried rice (mixed in my bowl once I got back home). I ordered without checking the reviews because I wasn’t thinking and then checked the reviews after getting my order and got nervous lol But I wasn't disappointed! It was delicious! I had about 8-9 jumbo shrimp that were cooked well. The broccoli was crisp without being too hard. The flavor was good with a little bit of spiciness like I requested. The only thing I would say is that I expected my fried rice to be more like a typical fried rice that could stand alone but it was closer to regular rice but still tasted good. I still gave it 5 stars because it didn’t take away from the dish. The portion size was just right and the price was reasonable. Worth a try!
