Taste of Canton廣食堂 Intro
Taste of Canton廣食堂 is a Chinese restaurant located at 61-42 Springfield Blvd, Oakland Gardens, NY 11364, USA. Based on online reviews, it appears to offer a Cantonese-style cuisine, rooted in the culinary traditions of Canton. For local users in Singapore interested in learning about Chinese restaurants with potentially authentic Cantonese flavors, here's an objective introduction based on available feedback.
One reviewer with knowledge of Cantonese cuisine ("Canton roots") found the atmosphere of Taste of Canton to be "comfortable with clean and bright booths." They also highlighted the personable and hospitable service provided by someone named Simon towards their family. This suggests a welcoming and pleasant environment for diners.
This reviewer also recommended specific dishes to try, including the "dependable" wonton noodle soup, the seafood bird’s nest (noting its crispy noodles), the squid with black bean sauce (which was their personal favorite), and the congees. These recommendations can be helpful for those looking for classic Cantonese fare.
However, the same reviewer suggested skipping certain dishes, namely the black bean Chilean sea bass (as it was breaded, oily, and had few black beans, deviating from their usual expectation) and the egg custard buns (which lacked the desired golden filling). This indicates potential inconsistencies in the preparation of some dishes.
In contrast to the positive comments about the atmosphere and some dishes, another reviewer had a significantly negative experience. They claimed that the food was not authentic, citing the roasted duck as "clearly old" and the cabbages as also old and served cold. Furthermore, this reviewer pointed out a mandatory 18% tip for dine-in service, which they felt was unjustified given that the service was not even great. This feedback raises concerns about food freshness, preparation, and the value of the dining experience.
Based on these reviews, Taste of Canton廣食堂 offers a mixed experience. While the environment is described as comfortable and the service by Simon as hospitable, there are concerns about the authenticity and freshness of some dishes, as well as the value proposition due to a mandatory tip for potentially subpar service. The recommended dishes might be a safer bet based on one reviewer's experience.
As there is no specific mention of promotional information, features beyond dine-in service (such as takeaway or delivery), we cannot provide details on these aspects. The available information focuses on the dine-in experience, food quality, and service.
For local users in Singapore, Taste of Canton廣食堂 presents a case where some traditional Cantonese dishes might be worth exploring based on one review, but there are also significant concerns raised by another regarding food quality and service. If you are in the Oakland Gardens, NY area, you can contact them at (718) 489-5038 or +1 718-489-5038 for more information. However, it would be advisable to consider the mixed feedback before dining in.

If you’re in the know, it’s Canton roots for the cuisine. Simon is always personable and hospitable toward my family, and the atmosphere is comfortable with clean and bright booths. Here is what to go for: •Wonton noodle soup (dependable) •Seafood bird’s nest (crispy noodles) •Squid with black bean sauce (my favorite here) •Congees Skip: •Black bean Chilean sea bass (my favorite dish usually; I didn’t expect it to be breaded here in so much oil with very few black beans.) •Egg custard buns (not with the desired golden filling)
Food isn’t authentic. The roasted duck clearly old. The cabbages were old too and they were given to you cold. Plus they require mandatory 18% tip when you dine in. The service isn’t even great.
Having lunch on Sunday. Very good authentic Cantonese/Hong Kong style food for reasonable price.
Honestly. I am shocked why this place has a 3.6. The food is consistently amazing and the service good. They are attentive but the star is every dish they make. I have yet to dislike anything and I am always pleased and satisfied. If I could give it 10 stars I would.
This place will no longer have my business. I went here on 11/2/2024. We sat and ordered our food. During the process of eating they were trying to rush you out the door due to being busy. They placed someone’s dog next to us and did not even bother to ask if it was okay. They also took food off the table and I wasn’t even done eating it. They also did not ask if you were done. Also, credit card payment is no longer accepted even though they have a payment machine. They also forgot one of our dishes and had to be reminded to send it over.
