About Tantou Wang's Fuzhou Fishball 潭頭王記福州魚丸
Tantou Wang's Fuzhou Fishball 潭頭王記福州魚丸 is a Chinese restaurant located at 4118 Main St in Flushing, New York. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Tantou Wang's specializes in the cuisine of Fuzhou, a city in the Fujian province of China. The restaurant is particularly known for its Fuzhounese fishballs and other local specialties like peanut sauce noodles and wonton soup. Based on customer reviews, Tantou Wang's is a popular spot among locals seeking authentic Fuzhounese flavors, offering quick service and affordable prices, although the environment and service style reflect its nature as a fast-paced eatery.
The environment of Tantou Wang's Fuzhou Fishball is described as a "classic local’s spot" and "more so a quick grab and eat spot." This suggests a no-frills setting focused on efficiency and functionality rather than elaborate decor or a comfortable dining atmosphere. One reviewer explicitly stated that "atmosphere isn’t up there," indicating that customers should not expect a refined or cozy ambiance. Another review mentioned that the "place is dirty and the tables are not cleaned," which is a significant concern regarding the hygiene and upkeep of the dining area. The high number of Chinese customers present was noted as a "good sign" for the authenticity of the food, implying that the restaurant caters to those familiar with Fuzhounese cuisine seeking genuine flavors from their hometown. The overall impression of the environment is that it is basic, crowded, and potentially not very clean, prioritizing speed and authenticity over comfort and aesthetics.
In terms of services, Tantou Wang's Fuzhou Fishball emphasizes quick service. One reviewer noted that you can get your food "in under 10 minutes," which is a significant advantage for those looking for a fast meal. The primary mode of service appears to be ordering at a counter, as one reviewer mentioned a "lineup to order was a free for all," suggesting a busy and somewhat disorganized ordering process. The staff is described as "rude" by one reviewer, indicating that customer service might not be a strong point of this establishment. This aligns with the description of it being a "quick grab and eat spot" where efficiency in food preparation and delivery takes precedence over attentive customer interaction. It is not explicitly mentioned whether Tantou Wang's offers takeout, but given its nature, it is highly likely that takeout is a significant part of their service.
The features of Tantou Wang's Fuzhou Fishball revolve around its authentic Fuzhounese cuisine. The restaurant's name itself highlights its specialty: Fuzhou fishballs (福州魚丸). These fishballs are typically made from fish paste with a savory pork filling, offering a unique texture and flavor. While the reviews do not specifically describe the fishballs, the restaurant's name and local popularity suggest they are a must-try item. Another highly recommended dish is the peanut sauce noodles (花生醬麵) and wonton soup (餛飩湯) combo, which is described as "popular in Fuzhou China" and "delicious" by one reviewer. This classic combo was recommended by Chinese friends, further attesting to its authenticity. The presence of a large number of Chinese customers also indicates that the restaurant serves food that is true to Fuzhounese culinary traditions. The focus on quick preparation and affordable prices are additional features that make Tantou Wang's a go-to spot for those seeking a fast and genuine taste of Fuzhou.

Great food as always and you get it in under 10 minutes. It’s a classic local’s spot for Fuzhounese food. This is more so a quick grab and eat spot, so service and atmosphere isn’t up there
Came here to try the recommended peanut sauce noodles and wonton soup combo that’s popular in Fuzhou China. My Chinese friends recommended this classic combo during my visit to NY. The combo was delicious. A lot of Chinese people here so that was a good sign. Service was rude and the lineup to order was a free for all. Place is dirty and the tables are not cleaned. I would set the expectations low for everything except the food.
This spot is a very fast-paced, street food style restaurant that serves FJ comfort food in a cafeteria-style seating restaurant. The dishes in this no-frills eatery are all very affordable and delicious. If you're eating at Tantou King's Fuzhou Fish Ball, you'll be eating amongst all the uncles and aunties. It's definitely a spot for locals. I used to visit with my mom when Tantou King used to be located in the basement level where the new Golden Mall now is. Their new location is much bigger and more comfortable to sit in. The lady working at the front desk can get impatient and rude though, so make sure to order quick, pay quick, and eat quick if you don't want to get yelled at. We saw a couple customers getting yelled at during our most recent visit here, but can't deny the food here hits the spot. Fuzhounese food staples we ordered: $3 ban mian 拌面/Fujianese peanut noodles $3 bian rou 扁肉/Fujianese wonton soup $3 fish ball soup (6 pieces) $3 pork ball soup
Food is so good!! This restaurant is fast paced and like street food. So if your worried about hygiene, this spots not for you. I ordered the traditional fuzhou peanut noodles and traditional meat wrapped in super thin wrappers. And wow. The flavors and portions were amazing for their price. The whole meal came to under $8 which is something you’ll never see in this economy. The lady picked up the noodles with her bare hands and threw them on the plate to be served. The noodles were creamy and the flavor was like no other. And the wrapped meat was silky smooth. It’s broth was perfectly seasoned. Though the service wasn’t the best/friendly and it wasn’t the cleanest, I definitely will come back!
I have been here before many years ago. I think it’s a neighborhood staple. I never tried FJ food before until coming here. Seems to be a lot of loyal customers who come here often. $3 peanut noodles used to be $2 but I still love it. Yeah it’s simple and flavors could be easily made at home, and the soup is kinda bland, but I think it’s more about the local community and quick eats in between work or just grabbing a quick bite. Very flushing.
