Previously known for its dim sum, this establishment now invites local users to indulge in a customizable and interactive dining experience centered around fresh ingredients and flavorful broths. You can reach them at (626) 348-8882 or +1 626-348-8882.
According to recent customer experiences, Tang Gong Seafood Restaurant now features an all-you-can-eat hot pot format, presenting a change from its previous dim sum service at the same location. One intrigued diner decided to try the new hot pot offering on a weekday, opting for the most affordable set menu priced at $29 per person, with the intention of not overindulging. This set menu catered to their preference for lamb slices, a popular ingredient in hot pot cuisine. It's worth noting that while this set was the most affordable, pricier options with a wider variety of ingredients were also available, suggesting different tiers to suit various preferences and budgets.
The hot pot menu at Tang Gong boasts a selection of six soup bases, including a notable fish maw chicken option, which was described as delicious. This variety allows diners to choose a broth that aligns with their taste preferences, from mild and savory to rich and flavorful. Complementing the hot pot experience are unlimited drinks, ensuring diners stay refreshed throughout their meal. The all-you-can-eat format includes freely available beef and lamb slices, catering to meat lovers, along with a diverse assortment of vegetables, providing a balanced and customizable hot pot experience.
Seafood appears to be a strong suit at Tang Gong, with one reviewer expressing particular satisfaction with the freshness and quality of the offerings. Fresh large shrimp, fish slices, and shrimp paste were highlighted as providing excellent value within the all-you-can-eat format. This emphasis on fresh seafood aligns with the restaurant's name and suggests a commitment to providing high-quality marine ingredients for their hot pot.
The environment of Tang Gong Seafood Restaurant is described as spacious, which could potentially feel empty during slower business hours. However, the restaurant features comfortable seating arrangements and pristine tablecloths, indicating an effort to maintain a clean and pleasant dining atmosphere for its guests. The spacious layout likely accommodates the various stations required for a comprehensive hot pot experience, including ingredient displays and the sauce bar.
A significant feature of Tang Gong's hot pot is the "dizzying array of condiments" available at the sauce station. This extensive selection allows diners to customize their hot pot ingredients with a wide range of flavors and textures, catering to individual preferences and enhancing the overall culinary experience. The availability of numerous sauces and seasonings is a hallmark of a good hot pot restaurant, enabling diners to create their perfect dipping sauces.
Beyond the hot pot ingredients, Tang Gong also offers a variety of snacks, desserts, and sago pudding. One reviewer noted that the desserts were substantial enough to potentially serve as main courses, indicating a generous offering in this category. This suggests that diners can look forward to a comprehensive meal that extends beyond the hot pot itself, with ample options for appetizers and sweet endings.

This contributes significantly to an overall pleasant dining experience, as attentive and welcoming service can greatly enhance customer satisfaction. The positive interaction with the staff adds to the enjoyment of the meal.

This indicates that the restaurant caters to different spice preferences, allowing diners to enjoy authentic flavors at their comfort level. This reviewer also affirmed that Tang Gong is a very authentic hot pot restaurant in Los Angeles. They chose the $29 dinner option and enjoyed a variety of ingredients, including beef, pork, lamb, seafood, and all kinds of vegetables, echoing the previous reviewer's positive experience with the value and variety offered at this price point. The overall dining experience was described as very enjoyable, leading to the reviewer's intention to return soon.

Customer Reviews
I stumbled upon a newly opened hot pot restaurant. Previously, I had enjoyed dim sum at this location, but as I passed by, I was surprised to see it had transformed into an all-you-can-eat hot pot place. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try. Being a weekday, I figured I wouldn't overindulge with the all-you-can-eat option. While other set menus were pricier, they offered more variety. As a hot pot enthusiast who prefers lamb slices, I opted for the most affordable set menu at $29 per person. The menu boasted six soup bases, including a delicious fish maw chicken option. Unlimited drinks complemented the freely available beef and lamb slices, along with an assortment of vegetables for the hot pot. Their seafood impressed me—fresh large shrimp, fish slices, and shrimp paste offered excellent value. The spacious restaurant, though potentially empty-feeling during slow hours, featured comfortable seating and pristine tablecloths. A dizzying array of condiments awaited at the sauce station. Snacks, desserts, and sago pudding were also on offer, with desserts substantial enough to serve as main courses. The waiter's enthusiasm and friendliness contributed to an overall pleasant dining experience
I had mala hotpot today and it was really good. I ordered the least spicy broth and it was just right for me. This is a very authentic hotpot restaurant in Los Angeles! I chose the $29 dinner and I had beef, pork, lamb, seafood and all kinds of veggies. The food quality is good and all the servers were very attentive. Aside from the ingredients that you can cook in your soup, there are various side dishes, desserts, fruits, and condiments to choose from. It was a very enjoyable dining experience. Will definitely come back again soon!
Dou Lao Fang Restaurant - Update Review (October 2, 2024) This is my third update on Dou Lao Fang, and I visited today for their recently reintroduced dim sum. I have to say, the dim sum is back and better than ever! We tried the shrimp egg roll and BBQ pork puff pastry, and both were simply amazing. You can tell these dishes are the work of a master dim sum chef. During our visit, we bumped into the new owners, Jason and Ellen, who were incredibly friendly. They informed us that the restaurant will soon be changing its name to Tang Gong Seafood, a famous Cantonese seafood restaurant from China. They’re relocating their Monterey Park Tang Gong Seafood location to this spot in Arcadia, replacing the current hot pot theme. I’m eagerly looking forward to the new menu. Based on their Monterey Park location and the reputation of their Chinese restaurants, I know we’re in for some delicious food! ( one month ago) Here's an updated review for Dou Lao Fang in Arcadia: --- I feel compelled to write this updated review because my previous one is now outdated. Since my last visit, Dou Lao Fang has undergone a significant change—they no longer offer dim sum. If you're planning to visit for dim sum, you'll be disappointed. The owner has transformed the restaurant into a self-service hot pot place. While the concept might appeal to some, I found the prices to be quite high for what’s offered. Although they have a menu with items under $20, the selection is limited and not particularly enticing. If you're looking for traditional Chinese cuisine, especially dim sum, this is no longer the place to go. Unfortunately, Dou Lao Fang has moved in a different direction, and it may not meet the expectations of those seeking the familiar flavors of Chinese classics.
It was an okay experience. Our group of 10 opted for the $29 per person hot pot deal, but we arrived a couple of hours before closing. Based on reviews and photos, it didn’t feel like we got the full value for what we paid. For example, one plate of vegetable, one plate of seafood and one bowl of ground shrimp for us all to share. Really??? We also weren’t aware that drinks were included and felt rushed throughout the meal. The atmosphere was uncomfortable at times. Although we’re Asian, we’re not Chinese, and it seemed like we were being stared at and even talked about by some of the staff with occasional obvious glares. The food quality was just average, but our main server and the hostess were very kind and welcoming, which we appreciated and why I gave them two stars. We probably wouldn’t dine here again since we’re not from the area. If you’re considering the hot pot option, I wouldn’t recommend it for large groups. To the staff and owner: Please ensure all guests are treated with kindness and fairness, regardless of their race or background. As a newer establishment, maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment is crucial to building a strong reputation and retaining customers.
Excellent hot pot place. The meats and seafood are very good quality. The prices are good and service is excellent.
