Take a Bao Eats Intro

Take a Bao Eats is a Chinese restaurant operating out of 3517 N Spaulding Ave, Chicago, IL 60618, USA. They can be contacted at (773) 888-1084 or their mobile number +1 773-888-1084. It is noted by a customer that this establishment appears to be a ghost kitchen, operating within a building that houses multiple restaurants. Takeout orders may be handled by a single person at the front or picked up from a locker, suggesting a focus on app-based orders and potentially less traditional hospitality.

Customer reviews on the food are varied. One customer who ordered the spicy chicken bao found it "good" but not exceptional. However, they were highly critical of the garlic fried rice, describing the portion size as extremely small and renaming it "Inflation Fried Rice." They also found the quality poor, consisting mainly of frozen peas and carrots with soy sauce and a little butter. Their overall experience was disappointing, leading to a decision not to return.

In contrast, another customer who ordered through Uber Eats had a "thoroughly impressed" experience. They enjoyed the chicken teriyaki bao, garlic aioli bao, chicken dumplings, and cinnamon buns, as well as the garlic butter fried rice with extra chicken and a spicy kick, which they reported was executed perfectly. This reviewer particularly appreciated the attention to detail, including a "thoughtful letter" in their delivery. They praised the food quality, packaging, and overall service as "exceptional" and highly recommended the restaurant for a "fantastic dining experience."

Features of Take a Bao Eats include a potentially innovative ghost kitchen operating model with locker pickup, a menu specializing in bao alongside other Chinese dishes like fried rice and dumplings, and the possibility of personalized orders (as indicated by the request for extra chicken and spice being fulfilled). Promotional information is not explicitly available in the provided reviews, but the positive review highlights the inclusion of a thoughtful letter, suggesting a focus on customer care in some instances. Due to the mixed reviews regarding food quality and portion sizes, potential local users may want to consider these varying experiences.

Upon arriving just know this is what I believe is characterized as a ghost kitchen. Although this is my first time going to one, I know they are becoming more popular for restaurant owners to use. Cool, not mad at it one bit. What I didn’t particularly care for is that there are multiple restaurants operating out of this building and there’s one person that may or may not be at the front handling the takeout orders for all the restaurants inside. Otherwise, you’re picking your food up from a locker. I assume these restaurants get a lot of app orders. Guess for me it takes the hospitality out of the business and you have no idea whose the face behind who's making your food and the business itself. That was different for me and as a first time customer I didn’t particularly care for it. I bought the spicy chicken bao and the garlic fried rice. The bao was good. I’ve had better but not bad. The fried rice though… The portion size for the garlic fried rice is plain ole degrading. They need to rename it “Inflation Fried Rice” because that’s how small the portion size was. I've included a pic even though I don't think it fully does it justice. You literally get more rice in a lunch meal from your standard Chinese takeout and Panda Express; mind you there’s also an entree that comes with those dishes at those restaurants. And it wasn’t good! Nothing but frozen peas and carrots lathered up soy sauce and a little butter. No lie, a kid could’ve made this. I went back in to ask for some soy sauce and it took 5 minutes for the reasons mentioned above. Overall, I was very disappointed and won’t be returning. I am not a person that writes reviews so if I’m doing so, that means it really wasn’t a pleasant experience.

I recently ordered from Take a Bao through Uber Eats, and I was thoroughly impressed. I tried their chicken teriyaki bao, garlic aioli bao, chicken dumplings, and cinnamon buns, and I also added garlic butter fried rice. I requested extra chicken and a spicy kick, and they nailed it perfectly! What really stood out was their attention to detail—they not only delivered delicious food but also included a thoughtful letter to cheer me up. The food quality, packaging, and overall service were exceptional. Highly recommend this restaurant for a fantastic dining experience!

It was my first time ordering from them, and honestly it made my day, i wanted some comfort food after having a bad day dealing with the grief of losing my mother last month. I opened my delivery to a very sweet handwritten note that made me smile. This staff is amazing and has beautiful service and i just want to thank them so very much, their positivity goes along way. Thank you for amazing food and spreading kindness to all your customers. 10/10 will be forever returning!

Delicious food (spicy shrimp bao, veggie dumplings, milk tea with brown sugar boba) and a very cute note. Happy new year!

Love this place. The food is always fresh and light. I ordered one chicken and one shrimp Bao and they were tasty. I also got the Nutella for dessert; it was delicious but I wouldn’t mind if it has some extra chocolate 😊 The personal note is so cute too, thanks Ana!
