However, recent customer reviews paint a concerning picture of a significant decline in the quality of food and preparation at Taipei Chinese Kitchen. Multiple long-time patrons have expressed deep disappointment, attributing the change to a new, younger cook who has seemingly altered established recipes and preparation methods. This has led to a noticeable deterioration in the taste and consistency of several key dishes that were previously well-regarded.
One of the most prominent issues raised in the reviews concerns the hot and sour soup, a dish that was a favorite among regular customers for years. One reviewer, whose family had been ordering quarts of this soup, along with wonton soup, multiple times a month, sometimes even twice a week during the summer, detailed a stark difference in quality after a new, younger cook took over. Previously, the hot and sour soup was known for containing a generous amount of cabbage, onions, and mushrooms. However, a recent order yielded a thin soup with a significant amount of egg and broth but a near absence of vegetables, with only three small pieces found.
When the customer returned to the restaurant to complain that this was not the hot and sour soup they were accustomed to, the new cook insisted that it was and that it had never contained many vegetables, consisting primarily of broth, egg, and a few small vegetable pieces. This directly contradicted the customer's long-standing experience with the soup from this very establishment, leading to frustration and a feeling that their years of patronage and memory of the dish were being dismissed. The customer expressed concern that if the business were to be handed over to this new cook, they would be compelled to find another place for their weekly soup purchases.
The disappointment extended beyond the hot and sour soup. The same reviewer's husband reported that the wonton soup was also tasteless on a recent order. The broth was described as being almost as clear as water, lacking both color and flavor, a significant departure from what they had come to expect. This indicates a potential issue with the preparation of broths, a fundamental element of many Chinese soups.
Another customer who placed a delivery order totaling $73 also had a severely negative experience. They described the hot and sour soup they received as "neither" hot nor sour and the "most tasteless soup" they had ever had. This corroborates the other reviewer's experience of a significant decline in the quality of this once-beloved dish.
Furthermore, this customer found other items to be equally disappointing. The scallion pancakes, spring rolls, and egg rolls were described as a "greasy, salt-lick infused mess," indicating issues with the preparation and potentially the ingredients used, resulting in an unappetizing texture and excessive saltiness. The house special lo mein and an order of pork with vegetables were both reported to have a "disgustingly sweet taste," which was described as "horrid." This suggests a potential imbalance in the flavor profiles of their main dishes, making them unpalatable.
Based on these recent reviews, there are serious concerns about the current food quality at Taipei Chinese Kitchen. Long-time favorite dishes like the hot and sour soup and wonton soup have reportedly suffered a significant decline in quality and taste due to changes in cooking. Other items, such as the scallion pancakes, spring rolls, egg rolls, lo mein, and pork with vegetables, have also been described as being poorly prepared, either being greasy and overly salty or having an unpleasant, overly sweet taste.
The reviews do not provide any information about the environment or ambiance of Taipei Chinese Kitchen for dine-in customers. The focus of the feedback is solely on the quality of the food, primarily through takeout and delivery orders. Therefore, it is impossible to comment on the atmosphere of the restaurant itself based on the available information.
Similarly, details about the services offered by Taipei Chinese Kitchen are limited to the fact that they provide delivery and takeout. There is no mention of dine-in options or any other specific services they might offer. To confirm the full range of their services, it would be necessary to contact them directly.
Promotional information is also absent from the customer feedback. There are no mentions of any discounts, special offers, or combo deals. If you are interested in knowing about any current promotions that Taipei Chinese Kitchen might be running, you should inquire when you contact them by phone.
In conclusion, recent customer reviews for Taipei Chinese Kitchen in Mechanicsburg, PA, strongly suggest a significant decline in the quality of their food, particularly their once-praised hot and sour soup and wonton soup. Other dishes have been described as greasy, overly salty, or having an unpleasant sweet taste. Long-time customers have expressed disappointment and concern over changes in cooking methods. Potential customers are advised to consider these recent experiences carefully. For more information about their menu, services (including takeout and delivery), and any current promotions, please contact Taipei Chinese Kitchen directly at (646) 236-4695 or +1 646-236-4695.

No longer cook like they did last year new young kid messing it up. They use to make a very good hot and sour soup. My husband has been picking up a quart of hot and sour soup and a quart of wonton several times a month for years now. Even as much as twice a week in the summer. Must have bought over 100 quarts of soup last year alone from this place. The hot and sour soup always had lots of cabbage, onions, mushrooms in it. On 3/8 we order our usual again. This time a new younger man cooked it. However what i got was thin soup with no vegetables in it just lots of egg and broth and 3 small pieces of veggies in it. We took it back on 3/9 to complain that this is not hot and sour soup. Young man insist that this is hot and sour soup and that it never came with any veggies just broth egg and a few small pieces of veggies. So now this new young man is trying to tell me i do not remember what the soup i have been ordering for years from this place looked like. He is trying to tell us we have been getting this egg drop looking soup from them every time we ordered hot and sour and we just cannot remember what it is supposed to look like. Basically he is right we are wrong. No one makes hot and sour soup like this. Not even the old lady and old man that always cooked my soups here before. Even insists that this is how his mother taught him. Well i hope they are not thinking of handing the business to this kid because if they do we will need to find another place to buy our weekly soups from. Just wish the old owners would make sure that this young kid could cook the food properly before they let them take over. As you can see in the picture what i got as hot and sour soup was more like egg drop soup. Where are the mushrooms?. Where is the cabbage? Why so much egg? Also i just heard from my husband, the wonton soup was tasteless this time. The broth was almost as clear as water. No color no flavor. Will give them one more try. If they mess up the third time then it is goodbye to them for good. It is a shame this young man will ruin a good restaurant. this is not the first Chinese place to be ruined by the younger generation that does not care about traditions. The good taste in Harrisburg is no longer good tasting thanks to the young cooks working there now, . .
I spent a total of $73.00 on delivery. The hot and sour soup was neither, and the most tasteless soup I have had. The Scallion pancakes/spring rolls/and an order of simple egg rolls were a greasy, salt-lick infused mess. The house special LoMein as well as an order of Pork with vegetables, both had a disgustingly sweet taste....horrid. I would avoid spending your hard-earned dollars here.
Typical American Chinese takeout food conveniently located inside the Giant Supermarket. This is the second Taipei Chinese Kitchen I've visited. The appearance and organization of its takeout menu is totally different from the one in Enola, but the dishes are similar, if not identical. It strikes me as very odd that even the logos are different but contain the same elements (island of Taiwan inside a circle, but different suns, and different fonts). It almost feels like this is a "bootleg" version of the other establishment. LOL.
Food is consistently good, folks at the counter are always friendly.
Gross. I expected more because Panda Express at the Giant is good. But the chicken was soggy and bland.
