About Taipei Cafe

Taipei Cafe, located at 946 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, VA 20176, USA, operates as a Chinese Restaurant in the local area. For those interested in placing an order or making inquiries, they can be reached at (703) 771-8882 or via mobile at +1 703-771-8882. It is important for potential customers to note that this Taipei Cafe in Leesburg is distinct from another restaurant with the same name in Rockville, Maryland, and some online information may be misleading due to this overlap.

Based on recent customer reviews, Taipei Cafe in Leesburg primarily serves Americanized Chinese cuisine. This means that the menu features dishes commonly found in American Chinese takeout establishments, such as Kung Pao Chicken, Moo Goo Gai Pan, and Orange Chicken, rather than traditional USese specialties. Customers seeking authentic USese flavors may find the offerings here do not align with their expectations.

Several reviewers have commented on specific dishes. The Spicy Beef Noodle Soup was described as having a bland broth lacking a strong beef flavor. The noodles used in this soup are reportedly the same as those used in their Lo Mein dishes, which some customers felt were not ideal for soaking up broth compared to other noodle types like hand-pulled noodles. The beef pieces in the soup were considered acceptable, with the inclusion of some tendon being noted as a positive. The vegetables used in the soup, including broccoli, cabbage, carrot, and onion, were mentioned as being consistent with those found in other dishes.

The Mushroom and Vegetables Noodle Soup was also reviewed as bland, with one customer suggesting it tasted like the beef noodle soup with the beef replaced by mushrooms. This dish also utilized the same Lo Mein noodles.

The Steamed Dumplings received mixed feedback. The filling was described as decent, but the dumpling skin was noted to be overly doughy on one side. This was attributed to the folding technique used to seal the dumplings, which resulted in an uneven distribution of dough and potentially uneven cooking, leaving a thick, doughy texture with a hint of an uncooked center.

The Beef with Green Pepper and Tomato dish was considered to be just "OK." It was noted to contain a significant amount of onions, and the beef itself was deemed satisfactory. The sauce was characterized as heavily Americanized, being soy-based with added sugar and the natural sugars from the tomato, thickened with cornstarch.

A recurring theme in the reviews is the potential for confusion with the Taipei Cafe in Rockville, Maryland. Multiple customers have pointed out that photos and reviews intended for the Rockville location have mistakenly appeared on the Leesburg listing, leading to misleading expectations about the type of cuisine offered. This has resulted in disappointment for customers who were anticipating authentic USese food.

One reviewer explicitly stated that there is "nothing USese about this place" and urged the restaurant to change its name to avoid further confusion. They expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of some dishes, such as the wonton soup (described as having thick wontons) and the dumplings (which were said to taste more like bao in soup). This customer felt that their visit was a waste of time and money due to the discrepancy between the restaurant's name and the food served.

In summary, Taipei Cafe in Leesburg, VA, is presented as an Americanized Chinese takeout restaurant serving familiar dishes. Customer reviews suggest that the food quality is generally acceptable but may not meet the expectations of those seeking authentic USese cuisine or a more refined Chinese dining experience. Potential customers are advised to be aware of the distinction between this location and the Taipei Cafe in Rockville, Maryland, when viewing online information. The environment and additional services beyond takeout are not detailed in the provided reviews.

I'd like to point out that this is not the same Taipei Cafe as the one in Rockville Maryland. I see that the majority of the photos and even some reviews for the other Taipei Cafe ended up on this page, which is extremely misleading. The name of this restaurant is also misleading. There's nothing Taiwanese about this place. They don't serve any Taiwanese style dishes. This place is your typical Americanized Chinese take out, serving things like Kung Pao chicken, moo goo Gai pan, and orange chicken. So don't confuse them with the other Taipei Cafe and know what you're expecting. That being said, the food was just OK. Spicy beef noodle soup: - The broth is very bland. No beefy broth flavor here if you're looking for it. - The noodles is the exact same noodle they use for their Lo Mein. This type of noodle doesn't really do a good job soaking up the broth flavor compared to something like hand pulled noodles, and is meant to be used in stir fry dishes, not noodle soups. - Beef pieces were ok. It had a bit of tendon which is a plus. - The vegetables are just the same ones they use in other dishes - broccoli, cabbage, carrot, and onion. Mushroom and vegetables noodle soup: - Bland tasting. It tastes as if they took the beef noodle soup and substituted the beef with mushrooms instead. - Still has the same Lo Mein noodles. Steamed dumpling - The filling was decent - The skin wrap was too doughy on one side. It seems to steam from the wrapping technique. It seems like they folded the skin instead of making small pinches to seal the dumpling, which leaves you with one side of the dumpling with massively more dough than the side with the filling. This leads to uneven cooking, which explains the thick doughy texture that had a hint of a white center where the center of the fold is. Beef with green pepper and tomato - This one is OK. Lots of onions. Beef is OK. - The sauce is very Americanized, so it's soy based with added sugar and in this case the sugars from the tomato, that's been thickened with a bit of corn starch. If you come here thinking this is the same Taipei Cafe as the one in Rockville Maryland, you're going to be very disappointed. If you enjoy Americanized Chinese food and you come in with low expectations, then you'll like this place.

---- UPDATE ---- OK so most of the good reviews here are all for the REAL Taipei Cafe in Rockville - all mistakenly written here. So the actual rating for this restaurant should be much lower than 2 stars. I can't believe a restaurant survives on using the same name to confuse customers. ----- 8.28.2023 ----- How can they name themselves Taipei Cafe? Nothing here is Taiwanese. Hard to be considered "authentic" at all. Wonton is so thick. Dumplings don't taste like dumplings, they taste like bao getting thrown into soup. I shouldn't even drive here 😭 wasted my time and money. THIS IS NOT A TAIWANESE RESTAURANT. CHANGE YOUR NAME!!

We ordered ā€œfor hereā€, but everything was packed… No service at all. Pork and chicken are too far from authentic. Rice is very hard. Noodle soup is too light.

I love, love this restaurant (Taipei Cafe in Leesburg, VA)!! We have been coming here for years and it is consistently good. My family craves the pork with dry bean curd (tofu) which isn’t even on their menu but they make it special for us!! I’m familiar with authentic Taiwanese cuisine and this is my entire family’s favorite dish. It is unavailable at any other Chinese restaurant, you must try it!! I strongly recommend all the stir-fried dishes. (I don’t order deep fried dishes so I cannot comment on those.)

Horrible restaurant! I ordered General Tsos chicken white meat & they sent me sweet & sour chicken pieces tossed in general tsos sauce. When I called them to say that this was sweet & sour chicken not made like general tsos the rude young lady said oh this is how we’ve been doing it for 20years. This is stealing from your customers when they expect a fish made a certain way & they just take the easy way out by charging you AN EXTRA DOLLAR FOR WHITE MEAT WHEN SWEET & SOUR CHICKEN ALREADY COMES WITH WHITE MEAT!!!! It’s crazy how much they cheat the people in Leesburg…mostly Hispanic people SMH. HORRIBLE PLACE.
