About Tai-Pan
Tai-Pan is a Chinese Restaurant located at 15412 W High St, Middlefield, OH 44062, USA. For inquiries or to place an order, they can be reached at (440) 632-0654 or via their mobile number +1 440-632-0654. Situated in Middlefield, Tai-Pan aims to provide Chinese cuisine to the local community. Recent customer reviews present a contrasting view of the dining experience at this establishment.
One enthusiastic reviewer, despite living an hour away, expressed a strong desire to return to Tai-Pan specifically for another meal, indicating a highly positive initial experience. They praised the restaurant's "clean, calm" ambiance and described the staff as "very friendly and helpful." The reviewer also found the prices to be "great" and the food "fantastic." They mentioned regretting not ordering the wonton soup, having heard it was exceptional, and were pleasantly surprised by the egg drop soup, which they typically do not enjoy, as well as the spring roll and vegetable delight. This review paints a picture of a restaurant with delicious food, a pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, and reasonable prices, suggesting a potentially excellent dining option for local users.
However, another more critical recent review offers a starkly different perspective, particularly concerning changes since new owners took over. This reviewer claims that the "food quality has gone down so far and prices have gone so high it's RIDICULOUS," asserting that there is "NO EXCUSE" for the current pricing relative to the perceived poor quality of the food. This suggests a significant decline in the restaurant's standards according to this customer.
Further criticism was leveled at the carry-out order process. The reviewer described it as sounding "like they've outsourced order taking to a call center," making it "damned near IMPOSSIBLE to understand one word of what they're saying," which they found "absolutely INFURIATING." This indicates a potential communication barrier when placing phone orders for takeout, which could be a significant frustration for local users preferring this service.
The negative feedback extended to the restaurant's interior as well. Upon entering, the reviewer noted a "fish tank that is FILTHY" and the presence of "DUST EVERYWHERE," suggesting issues with cleanliness and maintenance within the dining area. While acknowledging that the in-person service was "very friendly and courteous," this reviewer also found it "almost impossible to understand what they're saying," echoing the communication difficulties experienced during phone orders. This indicates a potential language barrier with staff that could affect both phone and in-person interactions.
The reviewer concluded by expressing disappointment in the significant change in food quality since the new ownership, making it "hard to believe" it's the same place they used to love. They strongly advised skipping Tai-Pan unless one has an "overwhelming Jonesing for Chinese," suggesting that the current experience does not justify the cost. They felt that customers are getting the "impression that you're paying a 5 star price for 1 star food," with the cost being "severely disproportionate to the food's 'quality'." The reviewer summarized their sentiment as "really sad how far down this place has gone and how dirty it is inside."
Considering these two contrasting reviews, local users face a dilemma. One review suggests a delightful experience with fantastic food, a pleasant ambiance, and friendly service at great prices. The other paints a picture of declining food quality, inflated prices, significant communication barriers during phone and in-person interactions, and a dirty interior. The stark opposition between these accounts could indicate inconsistency in the restaurant's offerings or a difference in individual expectations and experiences. The more critical review specifically points to a decline in quality since new ownership, which is a crucial factor for potential returning customers to consider.
Given the limited information, details about the specific environment beyond the mention of cleanliness and a fish tank are unavailable. Similarly, the services offered are implied to include dine-in and takeout, but specifics like delivery options are not mentioned. The features that might have made Tai-Pan stand out previously, such as the quality of their wonton and egg drop soups, are contrasted by the current concerns about overall food quality and pricing. No promotional information is provided in the reviews.
In conclusion, Tai-Pan Chinese Restaurant in Middlefield, Ohio, presents a complex and potentially inconsistent experience for local users based on recent reviews. While one customer raved about a delicious meal, pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, and great prices, another reported a significant decline in food quality coupled with increased prices, communication difficulties, and a dirty environment since new ownership. Local users might want to weigh these contrasting opinions carefully. If the positive experience reflects the current standard, Tai-Pan could be a worthwhile visit. However, the serious concerns raised about food quality, pricing, communication, and cleanliness warrant caution and might suggest that other Chinese dining options in the area could be more reliable. Further investigation into more recent reviews or perhaps a personal visit could provide a clearer understanding of the current state of Tai-Pan.

Although an hour away I’ve thought to head back to Middlefield just for another delicious meal at Tai-Pan! The ambiance is clean, calm, staff very friendly and helpful, prices are great, food was fantastic! Wishing I had ordered the Wongtong soup as after words I heard it’s the best. Egg drop soup I usually don’t like yet theirs was so good as was everything spring roll and vegetable delete
Since the new owners took over the food quality has gone down so far and prices have gone so high it's RIDICULOUS. There is NO EXCUSE to charge what they do for such poor quality food. Also, when you call to place a carry out order it sounds like they've outsourced order taking to a call center, and it's damned near IMPOSSIBLE to understand one word of what they're saying, and THAT is absolutely INFURIATING. When you go inside the first thing you notice is the fish tank that is FILTHY, and there's DUST EVERYWHERE. The service is very friendly and courteous but, here again, almost impossible to understand what they're saying. I used to love the food here but it's SO DIFFERENT that it's hard to believe. Honestly, you're far better off skipping this place unless you have an overwhelming Jonesing for Chinese. You get the impression that you're paying a 5 star price for 1 star food. The cost is severely disproportionate to the food's "quality". It's really sad how far down this place has gone and how dirty it is inside
I’ve been coming here for years. The best food and service that I’ve found anywhere in Ohio! Today I had my favorite hot and sour soup with vegetable tempura. Hot and delicious, very affordable! Will be returning soon. Edit: just tried a new dish tonight - beef with cashews - soooo amazing!
What a fun place to spend the afternoon! Lots of fun things to see and do, highly recommend!!
Food was amazing, prices are great, but only concern that I had was that I was still finishing my bowl of rice, I had 2 other people with me, and idk if it was the owner or worker, but she was basically demanding to my friend to leave a tip, and I havent even gotten off my seat along with another friend, I understand tipping for the service, but you lost it when you were demanding my friend leaves something, he was already going to tip
