Tai Lake is a restaurant located at 134 N 10th St, Philadelphia, PA 19107, USA. It is categorized under Chinese Restaurants. They can be contacted at (215) 922-0698 or +1 215-922-0698.

Customer reviews present a largely negative experience. One reviewer described their experience as "HORRIBLE!!" While they noted "The place is nice & I think the employees are nice," they also felt uncomfortable, stating "they were talking in different languages & I was getting a vibe that they were talking about us." They found the food "sooooooo bad & expensive!" specifically mentioning the "shrimp fried rice had so much egg & onion in it," the "sweet & sour shrimp was so big & mushy" (though the sauce was good), and the "salted scallops & shrimp wasn’t seasoned, was mushy & didn’t come with the chili sauce that they advertised." They also noted that "The drinks are can soda, no refills" and suspected being "charged me $10 extra dollars for no reason," concluding "The whole place was definitely sketchy. I won’t be going back."

Another customer who came for dinner ordered "sweet pork" and found it "sweet a little bit too much for myself." They described the place as "old but clean" with "an atmosphere of an old china restaurant." They found "the service isn't the best," noting "the waitress barely speak English so it was difficult to ask for advice or about the food." However, they mentioned "the portions are good and the close late," suggesting it might be a viable option if it's late, despite not being their best choice. They found the "Prices are average, so around 20us per person" and pointed out "that there is no free parking available."

Based on these reviews, Tai Lake in Philadelphia, PA, appears to have significant drawbacks. While the environment might be perceived as 'nice' or having an 'old china restaurant' atmosphere, the food quality has been heavily criticized, with complaints about excessive ingredients, poor texture, and lack of seasoning. Service is also a concern due to a language barrier with at least one waitress. Additionally, there are issues with drink refills (none offered for can soda), a suspicion of overcharging, and no free parking. However, the portions are noted as good, the prices are average (around $20 per person), and the restaurant closes late, which might be a consideration for late-night dining. Local users should weigh these factors carefully before choosing to dine at Tai Lake.

The environment is described as potentially "nice" but also "old but clean" with an "atmosphere of an old china restaurant," though one reviewer found the whole place "definitely sketchy." Services include dine-in, with service quality impacted by a language barrier with at least one waitress. Key features mentioned are the good portion sizes and late closing time. Significant drawbacks include very poor food quality (as reported), can soda with no refills, potential overcharging, and no free parking. Prices are noted as average (around $20 per person). HORRIBLE!! The place is nice & I think the employees are nice, but they were talking in different languages & I was getting a vibe that they were talking about us. The food was sooooooo bad & expensive! I got shrimp fried rice, sweet & sour shrimp & fried scallops & shrimp. The shrimp fried rice had so much egg & onion in it. The sweet & sour shrimp was so big & mushy. The sauce was good though. The salted scallops & shrimp wasn’t seasoned. Was mushy & didn’t come with the chili sauce that they advertised. The drinks are can soda, no refills. I also think they charged me $10 extra dollars for no reason. The whole place was definitely sketchy. I won’t be going back.

Came to this place for a dinner, I ordered sweet pork, and indeed, it was sweet a little bit too much for myself. The place looks old but clean, it has an atmosphere of an old china restaurant, the service isn't the best, the waitress barely speak English so it was difficult to ask for advice or about the food, however the portions are good and the close late, so for me isn't the best option, but if is late it might be your best option. Prices are average, so around 20us per person. Also you need yo take into consideration that there is no free parking available.

This place was packed with people and that means it's good, and it was. We had a small wait for a table. Food was rolling out to tables left and right. Quick service once you ordered. Very good food. I would come back when I'm back in Philly. No nonsense service but the food is good. Huge menu.

Seafood restaurant in Chinatown. Steamed oysters with scallions - As others have said, huge. Like big as your hand. They were ok. Not as good as having raw oysters. Fried Rice with salted fish - Ok. Nice smokey flavor. I wish there was more of the fish though. Sauteed clams with mince pork and hot chili - Good! Pan fried noodles with seafood - Very simple and straightforward dish. Stir fried pea leaves - Delicious. Favorite item we had. Food was fine. If I came back I'd definitely go for some of their very unique specialty items though. Very good service.
