When considering a new dining option, especially within the diverse category of Chinese restaurants, it's helpful to gather insights from fellow diners. Online reviews often provide a glimpse into the experiences of other customers, covering aspects such as food quality, service efficiency, restaurant ambiance, and overall value. These firsthand accounts can be instrumental in setting expectations and making informed decisions about where to eat.
However, it's important to approach online reviews with a balanced perspective. Individual experiences can vary significantly based on personal preferences, specific orders, and even the time of visit. A single review, whether positive or negative, may not always represent the overall quality and consistency of a restaurant. Reading a range of reviews can often provide a more comprehensive understanding of what to expect.
Based on the available online reviews, it appears that some customers have expressed significant dissatisfaction with their experiences at Szechuan Restaurant. One reviewer described the food as "sub par and over priced," and highlighted issues with service, specifically mentioning being charged for sweet and sour sauce that they felt should have been complimentary with their wontons. This reviewer also noted the absence of silverware and plates with their order and reported errors in the order, including a lack of proper identification for pork and vegetable egg rolls. This customer concluded by stating their past negative experiences were reinforced by this recent visit.
Another customer shared an overwhelmingly negative experience, stating they had "never left a bad review for a restaurant before." Their detailed feedback included criticisms of several dishes. The cheese Rangoon was described as "dry and crumbly" and lacking in seasoning. The fried rice was allegedly just white rice with soy sauce, devoid of vegetables or egg and not appearing to be refried. The lo mein and double fried pork were described as "flavorless," with the latter also missing the promised spiciness. While this reviewer acknowledged the vegetables were "well cooked," they found the egg foo young to be "particularly gross," citing a "soggy mess" and a gravy that tasted like it was from an expired jar. Even the shrimp tempura, which was deemed the "best part," was considered mediocre, likened to a lower-quality fast-food version. This reviewer ultimately resorted to re-cooking the entire meal at home with additional seasonings to make it edible, expressing disappointment with the value for money. They concluded by stating it was the "most dissatisfying Chinese food" they had ever had, even compared to a budget buffet experience.
These reviews raise concerns about several key aspects of Szechuan Restaurant, including the quality and flavor of their food, the accuracy of orders, the provision of necessary accompaniments and utensils, and the overall service experience. Potential customers may want to consider these comments when deciding whether to dine at this establishment.
It is important to note that these reviews represent individual experiences and may not be representative of every customer's interaction with Szechuan Restaurant. However, the consistency and detail in the negative feedback provided by these reviewers warrant consideration. For those seeking a Chinese dining experience in Charlottesville, it might be prudent to weigh these reviews against other available options and perhaps consider recent feedback from additional sources if available.
As a platform for Chinese Restaurants, we aim to provide comprehensive information to help local users make informed choices. The food is sub par and over priced but the service is the worst part! Any chinese food place tou go to gives you sweet and sour sauce for wontons right? Not here I had to go in after having received my food just to be told I have to pay for a sauce that is supposed to come with the item I ordered. Not to mention not a single piece of silverware or plate was given either. They completely messed up part of the order and didnt even bother to properly identify which egg rolls had pork and which were vegetable. Now I remember why I hate coming here
I have legitimately never left a bad review for a restaurant before but I was blown away at the poor quality of this food. The cheese Rangoon was dry and crumbly (honestly how do you even do that to deep fried cream cheese?) and was just that, no seasoning or anything in it. The fried rice was literally white rice they threw some soy sauce on? Like not a single veggie or egg, much less looking like it was refried. The lo mien and double fried pork were flavorless, the DF pork was supposed to be spicy but it would have had to have flavor first. The veggies were well cooked, I’ll give them that though. The egg foo young was particularly gross, a soggy mess with a gravy that seemed straight from a jar, and like, an expired one at that. The shrimp tempura was sadly the best part? And it was still not great, more like a Long John Silvers shrimp than anything. No joke I had to put it all back into a wok at home and add sesame oil, hot chilli crisp, fish oil, gochujang, and other seasonings just to make it edible and get some of the bang for my buck. Really sad considering how ordering out is already so expensive, you expect at least an edible dish. Absolutely the most dissatisfying Chinese food I’ve ever had, and I once went to that $4 Chinese buffet in Harrisonburg so that’s saying ALOT.
The single pancake was cold. No garlic soy sauce. No texture poor quality. I’m so disappointed with this one. I have ordered here before and was satisfied. (There was no other choice- satisfied as in I ate it because I was hungry and wasn’t hungry anymore.) there are limited choices so I suppose this place will continue to get away with 5 star rates from those who lack knowledge in finer cuisine. It here if you want high priced chopped up chicken wings (8?) it’s 4 wings mmmkkk!!! Mad I didn’t just cook! At least I have a roti skin now and can curry something else I’m still hungry today!!!! > :-{
Probably one of the best Chinese takeout joints in the area. Food is always fresh and NOT drenched in oil like so many other places. Do order the garlic sauce dishes, do order the mushu dishes.... do not order the mapo tofu (which they call mapo bean curd), skip the soups and fried rice.
The egg drop soup tasted like dirty water, the spring roll had no flavor, the fried rice was also flavorless and tasted bad, the beef and broccoli was drenched in oil and the fried wonton were inedible. I honestly don't think I ever had such a bad Chinese food.
