About Szechuan Restaurant
Szechuan Restaurant, located at 5207 Bernard Dr h, Roanoke, VA 24018, USA, is a Chinese eatery that offers a range of traditional dishes. The restaurant can be reached by phone at (540) 989-7947 or mobile at +1 540-989-7947. As a Chinese restaurant, it falls under a popular category that caters to those seeking authentic flavors and convenient dining options, including both dine-in and takeout services.
When considering the environment of Szechuan Restaurant, it's important to set expectations based on customer feedback. Patrons have described the dine-in experience as leaning heavily towards a takeout model. For instance, one review notes that food, even for dine-in customers, was presented on "a fast food tray, boxed to go," or on "a cheap plastic tray in take out containers." This suggests that the interior dining area may be modest and primarily designed for functionality and quick service rather than an elaborate, full-service sit-down experience. The atmosphere appears to be casual, with a strong emphasis on efficiency, which could be appealing to those looking for a quick meal rather than a lengthy, formal dining occasion. The general consensus from reviews indicates that the restaurant's primary focus, and perhaps its strength, lies in its takeout operations. This is supported by observations such as the restaurant being "deader than dead for a Saturday night," implying that the bulk of their business might originate from customers ordering for consumption at home.
Regarding services, Szechuan Restaurant provides both dine-in and takeout options. The takeout service seems to be their most frequented offering, as indicated by customer experiences. Customers can order a variety of Chinese dishes, including popular items like General Tso's Chicken, fried rice, noodles, and specialty sushi rolls such as Dragon Roll and Spider Roll. The ordering process appears straightforward, with customers placing their orders and receiving their food in takeout-style packaging, even when dining on-site. However, there have been significant concerns raised regarding the handling of customer issues and billing. One customer reported an unpleasant experience where a complaint about food quality (sushi tasting "fowl" with "rubber" eel) led to ordering an alternative meal, only to be presented with a "second check" for the replacement order, despite the initial cost. This particular incident suggests potential inconsistencies in their customer service protocol when it comes to addressing dissatisfaction with food quality. While the initial greeting by a staff member was noted as pleasant, the subsequent resolution process left a customer feeling "disturbed" and led to a "very displeasing" overall visit. This highlights the importance of clarifying billing practices and ensuring customer satisfaction, particularly when food quality issues arise.
The features of Szechuan Restaurant primarily revolve around its menu of Chinese cuisine. Dishes like General Tso's Chicken and fried rice seem to be consistent offerings, with at least one customer finding the former to be satisfactory. The menu also extends to sushi, although the quality of these items has been a point of contention in customer feedback, with descriptions of "fowl" taste and stale ingredients. This suggests that while the restaurant offers a diverse menu, the quality might vary across different categories of dishes. The restaurant's operational model appears to be geared towards high-volume takeout, which influences how food is presented and potentially how quickly it is prepared. The speed at which food is brought out, as noted by one customer, indicates an efficient kitchen, likely optimized for quick turnaround times. However, this efficiency might sometimes come at the expense of dine-in presentation or the freshness of certain items, particularly those that might be prepared in advance. The "pu pu platter came out in little bags" further reinforces the takeout-centric approach, even for appetizers.
In terms of promotional information, no specific ongoing promotions or special offers are explicitly detailed in the provided information. However, the mention of a "20% discount" given during a customer dispute could indicate that the restaurant is willing to offer concessions in certain situations, though this seemed to be a reactive measure rather than a proactive promotional strategy. Given the reported emphasis on takeout, any promotions would likely focus on encouraging this aspect of their business, perhaps through online ordering incentives, loyalty programs, or discounts for larger takeout orders. For local users, potential promotional information might include family meal deals, lunch specials, or combo platters designed to maximize value for takeout customers. If the restaurant aims to improve its dine-in appeal, it might consider promotions that enhance the sit-down experience, such as dine-in-only discounts or special menu items available exclusively for those eating at the restaurant. However, based on the current feedback, a stronger focus on improving the quality and consistency of all menu items, particularly sushi, and refining their customer service for in-house disputes, would likely be more beneficial than just promotional offers. Ultimately, the reputation of Szechuan Restaurant appears to be heavily influenced by its takeout services, and any promotional efforts would need to align with this operational reality while also addressing areas highlighted by customer reviews.

Customer Reviews
Over all this visit was very up pleasant! The beginning seemed promising as I was looking forward to spending a wonderful night with my husband as we celebrated our one year anniversary together. When we first walked in we're were greeted by a very nice gentleman, he was the only pleasant one of the night... Keep this in mind we'll I explain to you all that went wrong ... One. I ordered two specialty sushi's from the menu. It was a dragon roll and spider roll, my husband ordered the general sols chicken, and fried rice. We sat down after spending $61.97 on those items alone. We were brought our food out on a fast food tray, boxed to go. That's how it normally comes. I went to eat my sushi and it tasted fowl, the eel from the dragon roll was rubber, and the spider roll you could tell had been sitting for awhile. My husband's meal was fine. So I told the manager that it wasn't right, and it didn't taste right... She said oh, "sorry"... Hardly. So I asked to order something else which then I ordered the general sols chicken like my husband and the noodle. I was then brought the food along with a second check! YUPP YOU READ THAT RIGHT! A SECOND CHECK OF $32.00 AND they expect up to pay the full amount ... Even though I spent more on the first order. So in my photos I show you that we were given a 20% discount and was disturbed how they wouldn't just let me have my meal since it was cheaper and they should of gave us back the money in general.... So here you go, here are the photos of proof they charged us twice, and their restaurant solely survives on their takeout orders as it was deader than dead for a Saturday night. AGAIN THIS WAS VERY DISPLEASING, AND WRONG! NEVER COMING BACK, OR ORDERING TAKE OUT EVER AGAIN FROM HERE!
Won't go back. While their food is better than some Asian in town, not good enough to forgive spending 60 dollars for a tak dining experience. Rather shocked when pu pu platter came out in little bags, and dinner came out on a cheap plastic tray in take out containers. My husband had just gotten home after a week away, so not a great date night experience. Had been going off and on for many years, but this one will be off the list.
Best sushi in the area. Best sushi I've ever had actually. Highly recommend the spicy tuna roll. My 6 year old son will completely back me up on this as well.
This place at first seemed promising due to the impressive menu, the reviews, and the newspaper article they posted on their windows. But unfortunately it was not what we were hoping. I got Shrimp Ja jiam mein which on the menu states is the most authentic noodle dish they serve. This dish was sad tiny shrimp, some tiny vegetables, a very mild sauce that was supposed to be spicy served with SPAGHETTI NOODLES. NOT a traditional Chinese noodle at all. The other disappointment we were served was Peking Duck, this dish was served not as a whole duck as you would imagine but a serving of shredded dry tasteless meat with some burnt unspiced skin layed on top. It was also supposed to have chinese pancakes served along side but instead it came with spanish style flour tortillas. I admit we got the half duck and this would have been a fine way to serve it if it had had flavor. This was a disgraceful portrayal of Chinese food and a very disappointing meal. We wil never return.
Food was great, and the sushi was very fresh! Never been here before and I have lived in Roanoke for 10 years. Staff was friendly and service was on point. The place is very clean and so is the staff. Love the salt water tank when you walk in!
