About Szechuan Garden
Szechuan Garden, located at 15765 OH-170, Calcutta, OH 43920, USA, falls under the platform category of Chinese Restaurant, offering a range of Chinese cuisine to the local community. Based on a collection of recent online customer reviews, the dining experience at Szechuan Garden appears to be somewhat varied, with opinions differing on aspects such as food quality, portion sizes, and overall value.
Several reviewers expressed less than favorable opinions on certain dishes. One customer simply stated, "I've had better," indicating a general dissatisfaction. Another mentioned that the prices were "kinda high priced for portions," suggesting a potential concern about the value offered. Specific dishes that received criticism include the egg rolls, described as "small and probably frozen," and the crab rangoon, noted for being "crispy but like no filling inside." The fried rice was also mentioned for lacking pork and containing hardly any vegetables, although its taste was deemed "okay." The chicken lo mein was described as "not bad," with the observation that the noodles were "different." These comments suggest that some customers have found certain menu items to be underwhelming in terms of quality, ingredients, or portion size relative to the price.
However, not all feedback was negative. One reviewer who was initially hesitant due to negative comments shared a contrasting and positive experience. Visiting at 6 PM, they ordered jumbo fried shrimp, which they found "pretty tasty," and a lamb dish with hot and piquant sauce, served with a mix of zucchini, broccoli, onions, and peppers, which they described as "great" with a "perfect combination of sweet/tangy/and spicy." While they did note that the white rice was a "bit dry," they did not find it to be stale and suggested that the texture might be intentional as part of the recipe. This reviewer emphasized the cleanliness of the restaurant and the "clean taste" of the food, contrasting it with American-based Chinese restaurants that might use MSG excessively. They also appreciated the "nice and quiet place" with "peaceful, calm Chinese music" creating a pleasant ambiance. This positive review concluded that the experience was good overall, with good food, and despite the slightly higher prices, it was "worth the time," definitely better than fast-food options.
Considering these contrasting viewpoints, it's important for local users to weigh the different experiences shared. The environment of Szechuan Garden, as described by the positive reviewer, seems to be clean and conducive to a peaceful dining experience, enhanced by Chinese music. This suggests that the restaurant aims to provide a calm and pleasant setting for its patrons.
In terms of services, Szechuan Garden likely offers standard Chinese restaurant services, including dine-in, and it can be inferred that takeout is also available given that customers ordered and reviewed specific dishes. The friendly service of the staff was not explicitly mentioned in the negative reviews, but the positive review highlighted a good overall experience, which often includes attentive service. However, specific details about the promptness or attentiveness of the service are not consistently provided.
Features of Szechuan Garden appear to include a varied menu with standard Chinese-American fare such as sesame chicken, sweet and sour dishes, egg rolls, crab rangoon, fried rice, and lo mein, as well as potentially more authentic or regional dishes like the lamb with hot and piquant sauce. The willingness to prepare dishes with specific combinations of vegetables, as mentioned in the positive review, could be seen as a feature catering to individual preferences. The emphasis on a "clean taste" without excessive MSG, as highlighted by one reviewer, might be a distinguishing feature for health-conscious diners.

I've had better. Kinda high priced for portions Honestly the sesame chicken and sweet and sour was the best out of all I got Egg rolls were small and probably frozen Crab Rangoon was crispy but like no filling inside Fried rice did not have pork and hardly any vegetables. Was okay tasting Chicken lo mein wasn't bad noodles were different
I dont usually leave reviews, pretty much ever, but I saw some very negative comments and I've had a total opposite experience so I'd like to leave a review. First, one of the reviews said the food is better quality at lunch or dinner time, and I came at 6pm, though there were no other people, I just wanna say I mightve gotten a better end of it. I ordered jumbo fried shrimp, which was not out of this world, but pretty tasty. Then I ordered a lamb with white rice, hot and piquant sauce with zuccini/broccoli/onions/peppers served together. It tasted great, perfect combination of sweet/tangy/and spicy. I do agree, rice tasted a bit dry, but not to the point of stale. It did spread apart, but dried rice doesn't necessarily mean bad, just means less water was put in to make it, and it might be something of their recipe for a purpose. I do feel bad for some ppl who had bad experience here, but this restaurant is 1. Clean 2. Serves clean taste food unlike other so many american-based chinese restaurants who spike their food with msg for instant pleasure. I had a great experience here, nice and quiet place with a combination of peaceful, calm chinese music in the background. I did have my doubts before cuz of the reviews, but It turned out to be one of the better decisions I made today to visit the restaurant. All I'm saying is, before judging a book by its cover from negative comments, it might be worth a try before choosing another place. And it is most DEF better than McDonald's or quick franchise pickup, but obviously I can't speak for others. Good experience overall, good food, price is a bit higher end, but worth the time.
First time trying and was super disappointed, food had no flavor and paid quite a bit for something I know my 9 year old could have done better. The shrimp was so over cooked that it just turned into paste. Egg roll was a spring roll with nothing inside, rice was under cooked and hard, the crab Rangoon and the lo mein had no flavor. Chicken ramen has more flavor.
Absolutely horrible as if a child was cooking. The fried rice was like uncle Ben’s microwaveable brown rice with extra salt. No free refills because they give you cans of pop and don’t have a fountain. Way too much zucchini in a hunan dish with shrimp that tasted reheated. The general tso’s chicken did not taste like general tso’s, no spice and no peppers as indicated on the menu. The egg rolls were tiny, but actually were the beast tasting thing. Dishes did not look very clean in the light. Was not busy for 4p and probably for good reason.
been coming here since i was a little girl. food is always the best!
