About Szechuan Chinese Restaurant
Welcome to Szechuan Chinese Restaurant, a long-standing culinary fixture in Copperas Cove, Texas, located at 374 Town Sq B, Copperas Cove, TX 76522, USA. As a member of the Chinese Restaurant category, Szechuan Chinese Restaurant has been serving the local community for approximately 30 years, offering a range of Chinese cuisine for both takeout and limited dine-in options. For inquiries or to place an order, you can contact them at (254) 547-1555 or their mobile number +1 254-547-1555.
Szechuan Chinese Restaurant is situated in a large strip mall, somewhat off the main road. According to one reviewer, the exterior might not immediately appear to be a restaurant, with only the sign indicating its presence. However, the interior is described as having a typical Chinese restaurant ambiance, suggesting a familiar and comfortable setting once inside.
The owner is often present at the front counter and is consistently described as "very friendly" by multiple reviewers. This personal touch from the owner contributes to a welcoming atmosphere for customers, whether they are picking up takeout or dining in. One reviewer, new to the area, expressed regret for not having tried the restaurant sooner, indicating a positive impression upon their eventual visit.
In terms of services, Szechuan Chinese Restaurant primarily caters to takeout orders, which seems to be their main mode of operation. However, they do have tables available for customers who wish to eat on-site. One reviewer noted that the restaurant appears to have been a full-service establishment in the past but has transitioned to a more takeout-focused model. For those dining in, the owner is accommodating, providing plastic plates and forks upon request. The restaurant experiences a regular stream of customers picking up food and some also utilizing the available tables for dining.
A unique aspect of the service is that the owner often handles the front of the house single-handedly. As a result, if she is not immediately visible upon entering, customers are advised to ring the bell on the counter or call out, as she will promptly attend to them. This indicates a personalized but potentially less formal service style due to staffing constraints.
The features of Szechuan Chinese Restaurant include a diverse menu of Chinese dishes, with some items receiving more positive feedback than others. One reviewer detailed their experience with the Bo Bo Platter (for 2), an appetizer that includes egg rolls, beef steak (sticks), fried shrimp, BBQ ribs, crab puffs, and fried chicken wings. While the egg rolls and fried shrimp were deemed "okay" but not worth reordering, the beef steak and BBQ ribs had good flavor but were overcooked. The standout items from the platter were the crab puffs, which were the reviewer's favorite, and the chicken wings, which they also liked. Based on this experience, the reviewer recommended ordering only the crab puffs in the future.
For main courses, the same reviewer tried the House Special Lo Mein and the Orange Chicken. The House Special Lo Mein, containing chicken, beef, and shrimp, was well-received for its good flavor and the right amount of sauce, leading the reviewer to state they would order it again. The Orange Chicken, however, was considered just "okay," with the criticism being that there was too much sauce and breading on the chicken, sometimes making it seem like they were mostly eating breading. The fried rice that accompanied the Orange Chicken was noted as being good.
Another reviewer specifically praised the Szechuan and Kung Pao chicken, as well as the chop suey, describing them as "excellent" and noting that the portions are "huge." This positive feedback on specific dishes suggests that Szechuan Chinese Restaurant has strengths in certain areas of its menu, particularly in its namesake Szechuan cuisine and other popular Chinese-American dishes.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. As a long-established, family-owned and operated local business, Szechuan Chinese Restaurant might rely more on word-of-mouth and consistent quality in their favored dishes to attract and retain customers. Local users interested in potential specials or promotions could inquire directly with the restaurant.
In conclusion, Szechuan Chinese Restaurant in Copperas Cove, TX, offers a mix of experiences based on customer reviews. While the environment is described as a typical Chinese restaurant in a strip mall setting, the service is characterized by the friendly and hands-on approach of the owner, primarily catering to takeout with limited dine-in. The food quality appears to be varied, with the crab puffs and House Special Lo Mein receiving positive mentions, along with the Szechuan and Kung Pao chicken and chop suey, which are praised for their flavor and generous portions. However, some items, like the beef steak, BBQ ribs, and Orange Chicken, have received criticism regarding preparation or excessive sauce and breading. Despite some mixed feedback, the restaurant's longevity and the positive experiences shared by some customers, particularly regarding specific dishes and the friendly owner, suggest that Szechuan Chinese Restaurant is a local establishment worth trying, especially for those seeking takeout or a casual dine-in experience with large portions of certain Chinese favorites. Local users are encouraged to explore the menu and perhaps ask the owner for recommendations based on popular dishes.

We got take-out from Szechuan Chinese Restaurant in Copperas Cove on a Thursday in our quest to find good Chinese food in the Central Texas area. The restaurant is located well off the main road in a large strip mall. Except for the sign, from the outside it doesn’t even look like a place to eat. Inside, it looks like what you would expect of a Chinese restaurant. The owner was working at the front counter and was very friendly. We got the Bo Bo Platter (for 2) as an appetizer. It has (2 of each) egg rolls, beef steak (sticks), fried shrimp, BBQ ribs, crab puffs, fried chicken wings. The egg rolls and fried shrimp were okay, but we wouldn’t get them again. Both the beef steak and BBQ ribs had good flavor but were overcooked and not worth getting. The crab puffs were our favorite and we also like the chicken wings. Next time, we will only get an order of crab puffs and skip the rest. For our main courses, we got the House Special Lo Mein and the Orange Chicken. The House Special Lo Mein has chicken, beef, and shrimp. The Lo Mein had good flavor and just the right amount of sauce. We both liked it and would get it again. The Orange Chicken was okay. The flavoring was right on, but there was way too much sauce and breading on the chicken. It sometimes seemed like we were eating only breading and no chicken! The fried rice that came with it was good. Finding a good Chinese restaurant is challenging in Central Texas without going down to Georgetown, Round Rock, or even Austin, where there are a lot more options. Szechuan Chinese Restaurant is a family owned and operated local business, and the owner told us that she has been in this location for 30 years. I have been pretty critical of some of the food, but overall, I recommend that you give this local business a try. I’m confident that you will find something that you would like to eat here (without having to drive all the way to Austin!).
Been in Cove for 3 years and never tried this place, wish I’d tried it sooner. I’ve tried the Szechuan and kung pao chicken, as well as the chop suey. Excellent, and the portions are huge. It’s really for take out, (looks like it used to be full service restaurant years ago) but they have tables and the owner will bring out plastic plates and forks if you want to eat there. I go once a week or so and she has a regular stream of folks picking up food or sitting eating at the tables. The owner is very friendly, but she is the only one serving up front, so if she’s not there when you walk in, ring the bell on the counter or yell - she’ll come right out 😀
Went there for the first time today. The food was delicious, hot, and fresh, and reasonably priced. It’s not a fancy restaurant but it does not have to be. It’s clean and the lady who served us was friendly, polite, and efficient. There are some comments that the place looks dark, but given the large size of the restaurant, there is no reason to waste energy by lighting up the entire place. It appears to be a family-run restaurant which means they are trying to make a living.I don’t judge the quality of the food based upon the lighting of a place. Will definitely return and support the business. Loved the food and respect the owner for keeping it going.
Our favorite take out in the area! The chicken pieces are always good sized and actual meat instead of just breading. I recommend the general tsos and a side of crab puffs.
Enjoyed the food very much. The service was quick and pleasant. Will definitely come back❣️❣️
