Came out here for dinner tonight with my wife, surprisingly best sushi I have had in Sussex/Morris so far. Food: we ordered smoked salmon sushi and spring rolls for appetizer which was really good! The red rose, king, and out of control rolls that we ordered were so good and flavorful, plus accentuated by their sauce pairings or distinct taste by the choice of fish. Service: the young ladies helping us were very nice and constantly checked in if we needed anything. Aesthetic: standard sushi restaurant, has about 10-12 tables.
I'm a bit of a sushi snob coming from NYC where there are many excellent authentic Japanese cuisine establishments. I often get turned off when I go to Japanese restaurants, and I hear Chinese being spoken from the staff. There was even a sushi restaurant in Ridgewood, NJ, that went as far as to play Chinese music. I thought "what desecration"! Then, when the food isn't well prepared and not representative of the Japanese, it's such a disservice and embarrassment to both cultures. Well, Sushi Ya is run by Chinese staff. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the sashimi. It was fresh, tasty, and melted in my mouth. The presentation is decent. It would have been better if the wasabi was freshly grated and not the prepackaged concentrated kind. The accompanying salad and miso soup were simple and basic. I haven't tried the sushi with the rice nor the cooked foods. Either way, I applaud them for doing justice to the cuisine, at least with the freshness. Yes, I would definitely come back if I'm in the area again.
The fish is fresh and the meal started out with a complimentary side from the sushi chef which was nice. While the sashimi was great the rest of the sushi and food was just okay. Our waitress was very rude throughout the entire meal which really ruined it for us. The rude service is the reason we won't be coming back (we spent $110 for two people for our dinner which is expected in a Japanese restaurant). I feel bad for the owners because their waitress is hurting their business and she shouldn't be serving.
Always fresh and delicious. Best sushi we've had in this area since moving here 4 years ago. Fully recommend
Ordered take out so I can’t comment on the atmosphere. The golden dragon roll was excellent. Tuna pizza was very good smaller portion than I expected but was tasty. I was excited to try the wasabi dumpling. I was surprised it was not spicy at all I didn’t really taste the wasabi. I will order from there again.
