About Su Chang's

Welcome to Su Chang's, a Chinese restaurant nestled at 373 Lowell St, Peabody, MA 01960, USA. For years, Su Chang's has been serving the local community with a wide array of Chinese culinary delights, primarily focusing on takeout and delivery services. You can easily reach them at (978) 531-3366 or their mobile number +1 978-531-3366 to place your order and experience the taste of authentic Chinese cuisine from the comfort of your own home.

Based on customer feedback, Su Chang's presents a mixed experience. One recent review expressed disappointment with certain items from the platter for two, specifically mentioning overcooked and dry steak and chicken teriyaki, as well as small and dry Crab Rangoon with minimal filling. The reviewer did, however, commend the Chicken Lo Mein as excellent. Observations of individual meals at neighboring tables suggested a better quality for those dishes, leading the reviewer to believe that appetizers on the platter might be reheated rather than freshly prepared, noting an overall oily texture. Despite a nice but seemingly inexperienced waiter and bringing the issues to his attention, the reviewer reported no apology or action taken, ultimately leading to a decision not to return or recommend the restaurant, especially considering a perceived decline in food quality compared to 20 years prior.

In contrast, another customer shared an overwhelmingly positive experience with Su Chang's takeout. This long-time patron consistently found the food to be delicious and plentiful. A recent large order, intended for review and to sample various dishes, was met with high satisfaction across the board. The reviewer highlighted the food arriving hot even after a 20-minute drive, attributing this to excellent packaging that maintained freshness and temperature.

The extensive order included several highly praised items:

  • Spring Rolls: Described as "AMAZING!", large, crisp, and delicious, pairing perfectly with the provided sweet and sour sauce with a hint of hot mustard.
  • Vegetable Fried Rice and Shrimp Fried Rice: Both varieties were noted for their generous portions and excellent taste, with the reviewer appreciating the versatility of the vegetable fried rice. The restaurant now uses larger black containers for fried rice, increasing the portion size.
  • General Gao's Chicken: Praised for its understated yet delicious flavor, featuring just the right amount of tangy sauce coating the breaded chicken without being overly spicy.
  • Sweet & Sour Chicken: A different preparation with a distinct sweet and tangy sauce accompanied by vegetables and pineapple chunks.
  • Beef and Broccoli: Highly recommended as "to die for," with tender beef and perfectly cooked broccoli coated in a sauce that quickly became a new favorite.
  • Chicken Lo Mein: Described as full of plump noodles, chicken, and vegetables, and very tasty, although it faced stiff competition from the exceptional Beef and Broccoli.

The generous order, costing just over $100, also included two one-pound tubs of sweet and sour sauce, two smaller tubs of hot mustard, and a plentiful supply of fortune cookies and soy sauce. The reviewer was particularly impressed with the quick preparation time, with the order being ready in just 10 minutes despite the extensive list of items.

While the reviewer mentioned missing the dine-in experience due to the close proximity of tables inside, the consistently delicious takeout service more than compensated for this. The overall sentiment was a strong recommendation to try Su Chang's for a satisfying and flavorful Chinese meal.

Considering these contrasting reviews, it appears that Su Chang's excels in its takeout offerings, with several dishes receiving high praise for their taste, quality, and generous portions. While there might be inconsistencies in certain platter items or aspects of the dine-in experience, the positive feedback regarding the freshness, flavor, and speed of the takeout service suggests that Su Chang's remains a popular choice for Chinese cuisine in the Peabody area. If you're looking for a convenient and potentially delicious Chinese meal to enjoy at home, Su Chang's is worth considering. We encourage you to explore their menu and decide for yourself!

Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed. We ordered the platter for 2. The steak and chicken teriyaki were over cooked and dry. Crab Rangoon was small and had very little filling/ dry . Chicken Lo Mein was excellent. The individual meals looked great (observed surrounding tables). I would not recommend the pu pu platter. It’s obvious they reheat and don’t cooked the appetizers fresh per order. All items were very oily. Our waiter was nice but clueless. We returned 95% of what we ordered. He asked how everything was because of how much we did not eat. We showed him how overcooked everything was. No apology or action taken after bringing t it to his attention. We only ate the lo mein. We paid the bill in full and tipped 20%. We are not the type to complain but we will not go back nor recommend it to others. We moved..20 years ago the food was incredible! Sadly it appears that impression is no longer. Left disappointed.

I wanted to put down a review of the best Chinese style take-out I have ever had. This is not my first or second time eating Su Chang's, but the food has been so consistently delicious and plentiful over the years that I wanted to acknowledge this! I tend to order the same things, so this time we ordered quite a bit so that we could properly review different types of food and also to see what else was tasty! I have included a lot of pictures of the food straight from the box before we even took them out of the take out dishes. Once again, Su Chang's hit it out of the ballpark. Every single thing we ordered was HOT, delicious, and plentiful! We had to drive 20 or so minutes to get home, but the food in the box was still so hot that I had to use hot pads on the table just to photograph it. Excellent job of keeping the food hot and fresh! We ordered the following: Spring Rolls (AMAZING!) Vegetable fried rice Shrimp fried rice General Gao's Chicken Sweet & Sour Chicken Beef and Broccoli (to die for!) Chicken Lo Mein This came with two 1lb plastic tubs of sweet & sour sauce, two smaller tubs of hot mustard and a plethora of fortune cookies (yum!), soy sauce, etc. All of this together cost just over $100, but there is a LOT of food! The spring rolls are large, crisp and delicious. They go well with the sweet and sour sauce (with a pinch of the hot mustard mixed in!). One of the best spring rolls I have ever had. The General Gao's was understated and so goooood! Just enough sauce to stick to the breaded chicken and not overwhelm it. Not overly spicy, but does have a delicious, tangy zip to it. The Sweet & Sour chicken was breaded with a different sweet and sour sauce. It was sweet and tangy with veggies and pineapple chunks. Beef and broccoli was to die for. The beef melted in my mouth and the broccoli was perfectly cooked. The sauce covered both and is very close to becoming my new favorite! I have never had this before! So good! The Chicken Lo Mein was full of plump noodles, chicken and veggies. Very tasty! I have never had this either. it was not my favorite of all of the meals, but it was very very good! (Honestly, everything had a difficult time standing up to the beef and broccoli!) My husband prefers shrimp fried rice, but I love the veggie fried rice. It goes with anything you put it with and we appreciate that there is so much of it! I like to mix the sweet and sour sauce with a bit of hot mustard and mix it into the rice. That has a wonderful taste as well. They now pack it into a larger black food dish instead of the chinese take out boxes like they used to use a couple of years ago, so there is more in the portions. The fried rice (of any type and they have 4 or 5 kinds?) is really really good! Make sure you get some of this! We ordered all of this food around 1pm today and were told, "Okay, it will be ready in 10 minutes!" We had to let them know it would take longer for us to get there. Honestly, this delicous meal would have been ready in a quicker amount of time than going to a local fast food restaurant. It's hard to believe that they can make some thing this wonderful in such a short time period. Kudos to everyone at the restaurant for such a wonderful meal! I miss the dine-in experience with going to Su Chang's, but the tables are a bit too close together inside and it feels a bit too tight for me to relax, but their take-out service is so delicious, I do not feel that I am missing out. Do yourself a favor and try it! You will not be sorry. The food is amazing!

So Chang’s wow you bring me back to what food service should be! Amazing staff they all worked as a great team serving our table. So many places have lost this services touch and you all do a wonderful job. Then the food. It is so good!! So many flavors going on and fresh. The portion are very generous and the timing of food to the table was spot on! I have to say this has been the best dining experience I have had in a long time. Your staff didn’t look like they hated there job and that showed in how they took care of my Husband and I. Wish I lived in the area. We would dine at your place regularly.

Ordered a lunch combination plate, one having lobster sauce in it, the other, having spare ribs . after being served barely warm tea at lunch ,plates came the lobster sauce look like a jelly mold. It was so old and disgusting and I said to the waitress this is not lobster sauce. She said in a very rude manner. I’ll just add water to it. I said you can’t add water to old lobster sauce. I want fresh lobster sauce. She then put down the spare rib plate, which was barely warm. She was extremely rude and rather than cause a scene I went up to the manager who had me speak to the owner who was standing there counting his cash and I said sir, the waitress is extremely rude. The food is ice cold and old and he shooed his hand at me and told me just to leave went back at the table to get my mother and the people next to us said they cannot believe how rude the service is here. Shame on Su Chang’s! Mind you the restaurant opens at 11:30 for lunch. We were there at 11:36 and that’s how bad the food was certainly not fresh.

It's a hidden gem in a nice neighborhood. The building is very pretty. The inside is spacious and bright. Their food is very authentic and tasty (every item of them, especially the Peking Duck). The servers are friendly and nice. It would be my new regular visit restaurant in the area.
