About Stew House
Located at 18888 Labin Ct Ste 111 in Rowland Heights, California, Stew House operates as a Chinese restaurant that appears to specialize in dishes that can be customized according to spice preference. Operating under the platform category of "Chinese Restaurant," Stew House aims to offer a dining experience where customers have control over the heat level of their food. They can be contacted at (626) 716-7611 or via mobile at +1 626-716-7611.
Customer reviews regarding Stew House offer contrasting perspectives on the authenticity and quality of the food. One reviewer noted the ability to order dishes with a specific spicy level and found the food to be "pretty authentic." This suggests that Stew House strives to provide genuine Chinese flavors that cater to different spice tolerances. The availability of hot tea was also mentioned, although it is noted that, unlike many other Chinese restaurants, it is not complimentary. The service was described as "not bad," and the restaurant utilizes a digital menu system, indicating a modern approach to ordering.
However, another review presents a significantly different experience. This customer, identifying as a native of Hunan province (a region known for its distinct and often spicy cuisine), expressed strong disappointment with the taste, selection, and authenticity of the food at Stew House. A major criticism was that the dishes were "super super salty," leading the reviewer to sarcastically question if they were a fisherman (implying an excessive use of salt, traditionally used to preserve fish). The reviewer also claimed that the chef is likely not from Hunan, which they believe explains the perceived lack of authenticity. Based on this negative experience, this customer does not recommend Stew House.
Considering these two reviews, it is difficult to draw a definitive conclusion about the overall quality and authenticity of Stew House. The first review suggests a positive experience with customizable spice levels and reasonably authentic flavors, while the second strongly criticizes the saltiness and lack of genuine Hunan taste. This discrepancy could be due to variations in individual preferences, specific dishes ordered, or inconsistencies in the restaurant's preparation.
The mention of a digital menu is a notable feature, potentially offering a more interactive and detailed way for customers to view the menu and perhaps customize their orders beyond spice levels. The fact that hot tea is available but not free is a minor point of difference from some other Chinese restaurants in the area.
Information about the restaurant's environment is not provided in these reviews. Local users might want to visit the location to assess the ambiance and cleanliness for themselves. Similarly, details about other services beyond dine-in (implied by the reviews) are not mentioned. It is unclear if Stew House offers takeout or delivery services.
Features of Stew House could include the customizable spice levels, which cater to a wide range of preferences, and the attempt to provide authentic Chinese cuisine. However, the strong criticism regarding the lack of Hunan authenticity from someone claiming to be a native of the region is a significant point of concern. Potential customers specifically seeking Hunan cuisine should be aware of this feedback.
Promotional information is not available in the provided data. Local users interested in trying Stew House might want to check online platforms or contact the restaurant directly to inquire about any special offers, lunch or dinner specials, or signature dishes that they might be known for. Given the contrasting reviews, it might be beneficial to ask for recommendations or clarifications on the regional style of their cooking.
For local users in Rowland Heights looking for a Chinese restaurant, Stew House presents a somewhat uncertain option based on the available reviews. If you appreciate having control over the spice level of your food and are open to trying what one reviewer found to be "pretty authentic," it might be worth a visit. However, if you are specifically seeking genuine Hunan cuisine, the strong negative feedback from a Hunan native should be taken into consideration.
To make an informed decision, local diners might want to read additional reviews from other sources if available or consider visiting Stew House to form their own opinion. When ordering, it might be wise to inquire about the salt content of dishes, especially if you are sensitive to sodium levels. The digital menu could potentially offer more information about the ingredients and preparation styles of their offerings.
In conclusion, Stew House in Rowland Heights is a Chinese restaurant that allows customers to adjust the spice level of their dishes and aims to provide authentic flavors. However, customer reviews are mixed, with one praising the authenticity (though noting non-complimentary tea and a digital menu) and another strongly criticizing the excessive saltiness and lack of genuine Hunan cuisine. Local users should weigh these contrasting opinions and perhaps explore further to determine if Stew House aligns with their culinary preferences and expectations for authentic Chinese food.

You can order the spicy level and enjoy the dish. Everything we had were pretty authentic. Hot tea is available but not free like most Chinese restaurants. Service was not bad. Digital menu only.
Not recommended. Being a native from Hunan, I am very disappointed by the taste, the selection and authenticity of this place. Super super salty. Do you think I am fisherman? The chef is not from Hunan by the way. Probably explained why.
Best authentic Hu Nan Spicy cuisine in L.A. will come again with friends.
Chinese restaurants tend to get under-rated. This one, on first glance, seems like it won't be as good because it was pretty empty during dinner time. But surprisingly, their food turned out pretty good and flavorful. Since this is a seafood restaurant, we ended up ordering a lot of seafood. Let's just say, their Lobster was delicious. Their walnut shrimp was pretty good too. They serve beers here as well. Service was average, comparable to other Chinese places in the area.
Although there are so many authentic Chinese restaurants in the Rowland Heights area, This place is on the TOP. Beware of the huge portions though, don’t order too many entrees because you can’t finish them all! My favourites are clam soup and hot Chili pork, and the price is pretty reasonable too. I also like the fact they use portable wireless device for ordering and CC.
