Customer reviews for Steam Boys present contrasting experiences. One customer reported that the food was great, particularly enjoying the soup dumplings. They also found the beef soup to be good, noting that the "medium spice" level has a noticeable kick. The seared bao was also well-received, being a new experience for this reviewer. They expressed overall satisfaction and an intention to return, appreciating the restaurant's presence in Franklin.

However, another customer had a significantly different experience, stating that the food's appearance was deceiving as it looked better than it tasted. They found the baos to be not fresh. The fried chicken bao was compared to a McChicken sandwich in quality. The large steamed bao was criticized for containing only a tiny meatball, identified as 'beef shank' on the menu. While the beef noodle soup's broth was flavorful, this reviewer encountered an inedible, tough piece of 'tender beef shank' in their soup. This customer's overall impression was negative.

For local users in Franklin, TN, Steam Boys offers a menu featuring soup dumplings and a variety of bao, including seared options. While one customer had a positive experience with the food quality and specific dishes like soup dumplings and seared bao, another reported issues with freshness, the quality of certain baos, and the tenderness of the beef in the soup. Food was great. Loved the soup dumplings. The beef soup is good, but if your order “medium spice”, it’ll have a kick. Seared bao were good, never had one seared before. Great place to eat. Glad it’s hear in Franklin. Definitely coming back.

The food's appearance was deceiving, as it looked far better than it tasted. None of the baos were fresh. The fried chicken bao is about the equivalent to a McChicken sandwich. The large steamed bao had just one tiny meatball inside, which was supposedly 'beef shank' according to the menu. The beef noodle soup did have a flavorful broth, but there was an inedible piece of 'tender beef shank' in my soup that was as tough as a tire.

I stumbled into steam boys, not really knowing what I wanted, and Nina at the Calendar counter gave me the best advice. Literally the best dumplings I’ve ever had, and I cannot wait to come back. And of course, bring my whole family. The pork bail was fantastic too!! May ask for some different sauce next time. Great service and lots of pride in this place. Thank you Steam Boys.

Went for the $20 all-you-can-eat dumplings on Tuesdays. Tried the chicken and the shrimp seared dumplings and both were incredible. The mango fruit tea with kiwi popping boba was great as well. Some of the best food I've ever had for sure. I do wish the prices were cheaper though. I highly recommend!

The beef noodle soup was tasty. 3 of the 4 chunks of beef were tender, easily cut with a fork. One was tough with fat and gristle. Flavor was good; ordered mild and it was spicy, no need for extra chili oil. It seemed a fusion of beef pot roast and Asian flavors. Not like Phó or anything that could be identified from one particular cultural region/country. Wheat, not rice, noodles. The portion was large. The bao buns (seared pork) were a bit chewy and the pork ball inside was bland and skimpy for the price. Tuesdays are all-you-can eat buns: No thank you.
