About Spicy Hunan

Spicy Hunan, formerly known as Hunan Bistro, is a Chinese restaurant located at 9889 Bellaire Blvd Suite C-307, Houston, TX 77036, USA. Specializing in Hunan cuisine, known for its bold and often spicy flavors, they can be contacted at (713) 271-6666 or +1 713-271-6666.

Recent customer reviews offer insights into the dining experience at Spicy Hunan. One group of colleagues visited on a Friday, specifically craving grilled fish, and reported a satisfying experience. They highlighted several dishes, including the Double Pepper Fish Head, noted for its tender and flavorful fish and delicious broth-soaked noodles. The Spicy Grilled Fish was described as well-marinated and served with a variety of vegetables, offering a tasty flavor without being overly spicy.

Other praised dishes included the Stir-Fried Lotus Root Balls and Black Fungus, appreciated for their crunchy and refreshing qualities, providing a good contrast to the spicier options. Mao’s Braised Pork was commended for its tenderness and savory flavor, with a balanced mix of fatty and lean meat. The Long Pickled Beans with Chicken Gizzards were noted as tangy and refreshing, making for a great end to the meal. The group found the meal to be fully satisfying and reasonably priced at under $30 per person. They noted that the restaurant was busy, which resulted in slightly slow service, but overall they had a great experience.

However, another customer expressed disappointment with a specific dish, the smoked pork fried rice, which was previously a favorite. This reviewer felt that the flavor had changed over time, lacking the characteristic smoked flavor and being barely fried. This suggests that there may have been changes in the chef or recipe for some dishes.

If you are looking to explore Hunan cuisine in Houston, Spicy Hunan offers a range of dishes, with the grilled fish and other classic Hunan preparations receiving positive feedback. However, it's worth noting that experiences with specific dishes may vary.

After work on Friday, my colleagues and I went to Hunan Bistro for dinner, craving grilled fish. This long-standing Hunan restaurant did not disappoint. We ordered: - Double Pepper Fish Head: Tender and flavorful, with noodles soaked in a delicious broth. - Spicy Grilled Fish: Well-marinated, served with cabbage, cauliflower, and seaweed. Not too spicy and very tasty. - Stir-Fried Lotus Root Balls and Black Fungus: Crunchy and refreshing, a perfect balance to the spicy dishes. - Mao’s Braised Pork: Tender and savory, with a perfect mix of fatty and lean meat. - Long Pickled Beans with Chicken Gizzards: Tangy and refreshing, a great dish to end the meal. We were fully satisfied, and the cost was under $30 per person. It was busy, so service was a bit slow, but overall a great experience.

I use to stop in for the smoked pork fried rice as it was one of my favorite dishes. Through the years either the chef or recipe has changed. Went in today to give it a try and I wasn’t a fan. No smoked flavor and rice was barely fried. Guess it is time to try something new.

This restaurant has been here for quite some time now and it is better than I expected to be honest. Their dishes gives you a comfortable spicy kick which is the type of spiciness that doesn't make you bomb the toilet 10 times after the meal. Although their dishes are a little more towards the salty end, but overall their dishes do taste good. The reasons why I didn't give it a five-star is that the price is a bit high and the service is not that good. Three dishes cost me $53 and after tips each dish averages more than $20. Another thing is that although I do speak Chinese I still find out I have difficulty communicating with the waitress. I asked for ice water but she gave me water with no ice. I asked for napkins she didn't give it to me until the third time.

This place did not pass the high standards of Houston Chinatown. And neither did it pass standards of good Hunan food. We had !spicy! fried chicken dices, !spicy! cabbage and double cooked pork. Nothing - NOTHING was even remotely spicy or rich in flavor as Human food should be. The server was also not helpful with consultation - we asked specifically if dishes are spicy. Would not recommend this place. There is literally the Human Bistro across the street which x-times better Also the place was almost empty on a Sat night - that should tell you already everything you need to know

This is easily one of my favorite authentic Chinese restaurants here in Bellaire. I have a huge appetite for spicy Chinese food, especially the particular cuisines originating from the Southern Provinces, Sichuan and Hunan. Sichuan spice is mind-numbing, while Hunan Spice is fragrant spice. I strongly prefer the latter over the former. I've never had a bad experience dining in, I always like to order a full teapot of their Chrysanthemum tea, which has a nice red color to it. My top favorite dishes to order from here are: Spicy Beef Dry Pot, Chinese Bacon with Garlic Leek, Shredded Pork with Bean curd & leek and Sizzling Seafood Tofu. 这家店儿的口味非常地道。菜端上桌子香辣味儿就扑鼻而来。
