Sogo Sushi & Hibachi

After an 11 hour shift I picked up my son and treated him to hibachi for the first time. We absolutely loved it and the experience was amazing. Definitely will be going again soon.

First, SERVICE CHARGE will be added without consent - so don't be surprised to see an extra 10 bucks added to your bill. Our waitress was very sweet and had great recommendations. The sushi was delish and filling! Loved the calamari sauce.

We made a reservation and it filled up pretty quick after we sat down. It's a fun experience if you get the right chef and last night we had two side by side which had friendly banter and made us laugh. Our chef made great entrees. Our server made us feel rushed though. We sat down and was given our soup AND salad at the same time before we even ordered drinks or saw menus. When we ordered drinks we were asked to also order our meals. It felt rushed and impersonal. Usually you get the soup or salad first...I ate my salad first which in then made my soup cold. I guess I didn't think that out. The drinks were good off the cocktail menu. The only other thing we didn't like was the tacked on service charge. We tipped our chef when the meal was done AND before we received the bill. We essentially tipped him twice. Just beware of that. 4 hibachi meals, 2 apps, 2 cocktails, 1 soda cost $171.

18% service fee showed up on the bill at the end of the meal. Asked the server where that 18% went to and she said it was split up between the wait staff, buss staff and chefs, however, that was not her tip. So be prepared to get a 18% service fee essentially “tipping” the whole staff and then pay a 15-20% tip on top of that. We did not see any printed notice of the fee when looking at the menu so we did not know if the “service fee” prior to ordering. The food was good, but the extra fees make an already expensive meal ridiculously expensive. Include the service fee in your menu price so when people check the prices ahead of time they know if they can actually afford your establishment or make no tipping allowed in the establishment. It felt very much like being taken advantage of or scammed.

The skill and showmanship of the chef varies. Service was a little slow but not bad. The food tasted good, especially when hot off the grill. They were very careful to accommodate someone at the table with a food allergy but then used the same utensil to cook with both groups of food after separating them. Fortunately, she clarified that her "severe" allergy did not include touching the food or using a utensil that had touched the food. But my hope is that the chef fully understands the depth of the food allergy before starting to cook.
