About Sing Choi Kee 星财记

Sing Choi Kee 星财记, situated at 133-36 37th Ave #FH16 within the vibrant Tangram Mall in Flushing, NY 11354, USA, is an Asian restaurant that specifically focuses on delivering an authentic Hong Kong-style café experience, also known as a "Cha Chaan Teng." While categorized under "Chinese Restaurant" on some platforms due to the origins of Hong Kong cuisine, Sing Choi Kee offers a distinct culinary style characterized by comforting dishes, playful presentations, and a nostalgic ambiance that resonates with those familiar with Hong Kong diners. Located within Tangram Mall, which houses a variety of other food spots, Sing Choi Kee has garnered attention for its unique offerings and ability to stand out in a competitive environment.

The environment of Sing Choi Kee is described as "clean, stylish, and tucked inside Tangram Mall." This suggests a modern and well-maintained interior that provides a pleasant setting for diners. Being located within a mall, it benefits from the overall accessibility and foot traffic of the shopping center. However, the description also implies that Sing Choi Kee has managed to create its own distinct atmosphere that differentiates it from other eateries in the vicinity. The cleanliness and stylishness of the interior likely contribute to a comfortable and inviting dining space, enhancing the overall experience of enjoying Hong Kong-style comfort food.

The service at Sing Choi Kee has been positively noted as "fast and friendly." This is a crucial aspect of the Cha Chaan Teng experience, where efficiency and attentiveness are often valued. One reviewer specifically mentioned the speed of service in conjunction with the excellent value for the amount of food received, indicating a well-managed operation that prioritizes customer satisfaction. However, another review noted a potential shortage of staff during rush hours, which might occasionally impact the service speed. Despite this, the overall impression of the service is positive, contributing to a pleasant dining experience.

A significant feature of Sing Choi Kee that drew one reviewer in was the "four-person set meal." This pre-designed ordering option simplifies the dining process for groups, allowing them to choose four entrees, two appetizers, four drinks, and even a dessert for a set price, which was deemed excellent value. This set meal is a notable feature that caters well to groups and offers a comprehensive introduction to the variety of dishes available at Sing Choi Kee. It also suggests a potential focus on providing value for money and making the ordering process easy and convenient.

The entrees offered in the set meal provide a glimpse into the comforting and flavorful Hong Kong-style cuisine at Sing Choi Kee. The "slippery egg over rice with shrimp" was praised for its silky texture and flavorful profile, a hallmark of Hong Kong diners. The "beef pasta with black pepper sauce" was described as bold and savory with a satisfying peppery kick, showcasing the fusion of Western and Eastern influences common in Hong Kong cafes. Similarly, the "beef pasta with tomato sauce" evoked "comfort food vibes," with a slightly tangy tomato flavor that was deemed "totally slurp-worthy." These entree descriptions highlight the diverse and appealing nature of the main dishes.

The appetizers further exemplify the typical offerings of a Hong Kong cafe. The "fish balls in curry sauce" were noted for their perfect bounciness and a mild, fragrant curry that did not overpower the dish. The "fried fish balls" were described as simple yet satisfying, with a crispy exterior and a soft interior. These appetizers are classic Hong Kong street food staples that provide a flavorful start to the meal.

The drinks at Sing Choi Kee also include iconic Hong Kong beverages with a creative twist. The "cold yuenyeung" (a mix of coffee and tea) was described as classic, smooth, strong, and not too sweet, appealing to those who appreciate this traditional drink. The "cold Hong Kong milk tea" stood out with its "super cute meltable bear made of frozen milk tea." This playful presentation not only added a visual appeal but also enhanced the flavor as the melting bear slowly chilled the drink, offering a unique and enjoyable experience. Another recommended drink is the "lemon honey bear drink," further highlighting the restaurant's creative beverage offerings.

The dessert mentioned in the review was the "Hong Kong-style French toast," a decadent treat made with thick, fried golden bread filled with sweet condensed milk, dusted with cocoa powder, and drizzled with chocolate sauce. This rich and satisfying dessert is a classic ending to a Hong Kong cafe meal, catering to sweet cravings.

Overall, Sing Choi Kee 星财记 offers a genuine taste of Hong Kong-style café food in a clean and stylish setting within Flushing's Tangram Mall. Its features include a convenient four-person set meal that offers excellent value, a diverse menu of comforting and flavorful entrees, classic Hong Kong appetizers, and unique drinks with playful presentations. The service is generally fast and friendly, although potential staffing issues during peak times might occur. For local users in Flushing craving nostalgic Hong Kong flavors or those curious to experience "cha chaan teng" fare for the first time, Sing Choi Kee is highly recommended. Its location within a popular mall makes it easily accessible, and the positive reviews regarding food quality, value, and unique offerings suggest a satisfying and enjoyable dining experience. If you’re craving Hong Kong-style café food, Sing Choi Kee hits all the nostalgic notes. It instantly reminded me of my favorite diner back in Hong Kong from the comforting dishes to the playful presentation. The interior is clean, stylish, and tucked inside Tangram Mall, which is packed with other food spots, but this place really stood out. What drew me in was the four-person set meal, which made ordering easy. You choose four entrees, two appetizers, four drinks, and even a dessert. Entrees: • The slippery egg over rice with shrimp was silky and flavorful, the kind of texture Hong Kong diners do so well. • The beef pasta w black pepper sauce was bold and savory with just the right peppery kick. • The beef pasta w tomato sauce gave me comfort food vibes, slightly tangy from the tomato, and totally slurp-worthy. Appetizers: • The fish balls in curry sauce were perfectly bouncy and soaked in a mild, fragrant curry that didn’t overpower. • The fried fish balls were crispy on the outside, soft inside — simple but satisfying. Drinks: • The cold yuenyeung (coffee + tea combo) was classic, smooth, strong, and not too sweet. • The cold Hong Kong milk tea came with a super cute meltable bear made of frozen milk tea. It was fun to watch melt and actually enhanced the flavor as it slowly chilled the drink! Dessert: • We ended with their Hong Kong-style French toast, thick, fried golden, filled with sweet condensed milk, dusted with cocoa powder, and drizzled with chocolate sauce. It was decadent and hit every craving. Service was fast and friendly, and for the amount of food, the value was excellent. This place is a great intro for anyone curious about cha chaan teng fare or a nostalgic treat if you grew up eating this kind of comfort food. I’ll definitely be back!

The place is clean, the food looks cute. The taste is ok. Feel like short of staffs when it is in rush time. The lemon honey bear drink is recommended!

The restaurant is very nostalgic. My family and I love coming here after my daughter’s swim class. We come here every week like it’s part of our routine. There is one server in particular that is very welcoming and sweet! But all staff is friendly. The service is quick, so it makes grabbing a bite convenient!

The cafe is decent for a quick bite, but it doesn’t stand out among the many Hong Kong-style cafes in the area. The food is passable but lacks the depth and authenticity that make this cuisine special. If you’re in a rush, it’ll do the job, but for a more flavorful and authentic experience, there are better options nearby.
