About Silver Star Chinese Restaurant
Silver Star Chinese Restaurant is a local Chinese Restaurant located at 5016 Blanding Blvd in Jacksonville, FL 32210. For those in the Jacksonville area seeking Chinese cuisine, Silver Star offers a convenient option. They can be contacted at (904) 778-8500 or +1 904-778-8500 for inquiries or to place orders. Based on recent online reviews, Silver Star Chinese Restaurant appears to be a family-run establishment that offers good value with affordable prices and generous portion sizes. However, customer experiences regarding the environment and service have been somewhat mixed, while the food itself has received generally positive feedback.
Regarding the environment of Silver Star Chinese Restaurant, one reviewer noted that the "esthetic leaves a ton to be desired." This suggests that the decor or ambiance of the restaurant may not be its strongest point and might appear somewhat dated or lacking in visual appeal. However, another reviewer mentioned seeing a few people dining in, indicating that dine-in service is available. For local users who prioritize the quality and value of the food over the aesthetic of the dining space, this may not be a significant deterrent. Those who prefer a more modern or visually appealing setting might find the ambiance less satisfactory.
The service at Silver Star Chinese Restaurant has received mixed reviews. One customer had a very positive experience, noting that they were greeted promptly by multiple staff members who were attentive and efficient, handling dine-in guests, to-go orders, and phone calls simultaneously while still providing assistance. This reviewer's to-go order was also prepared relatively quickly, taking only about 10 to 12 minutes. This suggests that, at times, the service can be efficient and customer-focused. However, another reviewer described the service as "extremely slow," even though there were only two groups of customers in the restaurant at the time. This discrepancy indicates potential inconsistencies in the service speed, possibly depending on staffing levels or the volume of orders at a given time. Local users might experience varying levels of service efficiency.
Several features of Silver Star Chinese Restaurant stand out based on the customer reviews. A significant positive aspect is the affordability of the prices, with one reviewer explicitly stating that the "prices and portions are very good." This suggests that customers can expect to receive a substantial amount of food for a reasonable cost, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious diners. The "large portions" were also highlighted by the first reviewer, who anticipated getting three or four full meals from their single dinner combo order. This generosity in portion sizes further enhances the value proposition of Silver Star.
The food quality at Silver Star Chinese Restaurant has generally been praised. The first reviewer, who ordered a dinner combo with soup and an egg roll, found the food to be satisfying enough to warrant a return visit. The second reviewer, despite initial reservations about the appearance and service, found the food to be the "saving grace" of their experience. They specifically commended several dishes they tried. The fried rice was described as "good" and "loaded with pork" without an excessive amount of vegetables, which may appeal to those who prefer a meatier fried rice. The crab ragoon was noted for being "crispy" with a "creamy and tasty" filling. The pork pot stickers were also well-received for their crispiness and a flavorful pairing with what was guessed to be oyster sauce.
The fact that Silver Star seems to operate as a "mom and pop place/ family business" could be seen as a feature, potentially contributing to a more personal touch in their service and food preparation. This type of establishment often fosters a sense of community and can be appreciated by those who prefer to support local, family-owned businesses.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided customer reviews. However, the recurring theme of affordable prices and good value suggests that Silver Star Chinese Restaurant consistently offers competitive pricing. Local users interested in any potential special offers or discounts are encouraged to contact the restaurant directly at (904) 778-8500 or +1 904-778-8500 to inquire about any current promotions or daily specials. Supporting local establishments like Silver Star can often lead to the discovery of consistently good food at reasonable prices.
In conclusion, Silver Star Chinese Restaurant in Jacksonville, FL, offers local users affordable Chinese cuisine with generous portion sizes. While the aesthetic of the restaurant may not be its strongest suit and service experiences have been reported as inconsistent in speed, the food itself has generally received positive feedback, with specific praise for dishes like the fried rice, crab ragoon, and pork pot stickers. The value for money appears to be a significant draw, and the family-run nature of the business might appeal to some customers. Local users seeking a budget-friendly Chinese meal with substantial portions should consider giving Silver Star Chinese Restaurant a try, keeping in mind the potential variability in service speed and the noted aesthetic of the dining environment.

Customer Reviews
I was looking for top rated Chinese food near me. This place was close by and had good ratings. The prices and portions are very good. There were a few people dining in and a few people working. Seems like a mom and pop place/ family business. Just after walking in two separate people had greeted me and asked if I needed any help. I told them I was there to look at the menu and make a to-go order. They did a great job continuing to serve guests, put together to-go orders, answer phones, and help me. It maybe took my food about 10 or 12 minutes to be ready. I ordered one of their dinner combos and added the soup and an egg roll. It will probably be three or four full meals for me. I will definitely be going there again.
The esthetic leaves a ton to be desired. The service was extremely slow and it was just us and one other group in the place at that time. The food was its saving grace. We weren’t to sure with how it looked and the service we had received up to the point of the food coming out. We had some dim sum and a couple of appetizers. The fried rice was good. Loaded with pork and not a ton of vegetables. The crab ragoon was crispy with the crab and filling creamy and tasty. The pork pot stickers were crispy and what I am guessing was oyster sauce was a great pairing.
I love this place. Their fried rice is as good as it get like back in the day in NY so delicious. My fav is the shrimp in lobster sauce. Today I had lobster with scallions and ginger sauce. They call me when they have it because you won’t find it in the menu.
So far the worst we've been to in Jax. Huge portions but tastes awful! No flavors! The texture of meat is slimey, the sauce is gross, even the white rice was bad. We tried each others food...nope, awful. Took it to go, to the roommates. 1 bite each and they said they couldn't eat it. So, 7 different palletes all same opinion. Disgusting taste and texture. No idea why they have some decent reviews. The tables were sticky across entire thing, place reeks like mold/musty smell, they put a fan on the floor next to us blowing directly on us 2 feet away, would NOT recommend. The server was friendly.
It was empty when we came in and that's the kind of atmosphere we really enjoy! Great service, amazing food! We got Crab Wontons, egg drop soup, pot stickers, a veggie and an egg roll, sesame chicken, and the fried Chilean sea bass. The egg drop soup was awesome which is a great way to judge a Chinese restaurant 😉 they had real fried crispy noodles for the egg drop which is a HUGE BONUS in my book. The crab wontons were everything i wanted them to be, stuffed full of cream cheese and crab with very crisp and fresh wonton wrappers. everything that was fried was done so to perfection! The Sea bass was fantastic, especially with the jalapenos (I'd ask for extra, yum). the pot stickers were also very good, but the real star there was the hoisin sauce that came with them! thick and flavorful, not at all watery. i wanted to ask for a huge cup to go lol! 🤤 our server was very nice and happy to welcome us to our first of many visits to Silver Star Chinese! (5 gold stars if you ask me 😁)
