Welcome to Sidewalk Kitchen, a Chinese restaurant situated at 817 SE Washington Ave in the heart of Stadium Village, Minneapolis, Minnesota (55414, USA). As a noteworthy establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, Sidewalk Kitchen is recognized for serving authentic Cantonese dishes that have garnered high praise from its patrons. You can contact them at their phone number (612) 379-9999 or their mobile number +1 612-379-9999 for inquiries or to place an order for takeout.
Customer reviews consistently highlight the authenticity and deliciousness of the food at Sidewalk Kitchen. One reviewer described it as a "gem of a restaurant" serving up authentic Chinese dishes and stated that everything they have ordered has been enjoyable, suggesting a high level of consistency and quality across their menu. This positive feedback indicates that Sidewalk Kitchen is a reliable choice for those seeking genuine Cantonese flavors in the Minneapolis area.
The menu at Sidewalk Kitchen is noted for its extensive variety, offering a wide range of Cantonese culinary staples. Customers can choose from noodles, hotpot, congee, fried rice, and chow fun, among other options. The availability of milk tea also adds to the authenticity and appeal, as it is a popular beverage often found in Cantonese-style eateries. It is specifically mentioned that the flavors tend to be less spicy, characteristic of Cantonese cuisine which typically emphasizes the natural flavors of fresh ingredients rather than intense heat, unlike the Sichuan style.
Despite the overall positive reception of the food and service, some practical aspects of dining at Sidewalk Kitchen have been noted. One reviewer mentioned that the restaurant is "not very spacious," which could imply a cozy or intimate setting but might also mean limited seating, potentially leading to wait times during peak hours. Another point to consider is parking, which is described as "not very convenient." Customers will likely need to rely on street parking nearby, which is metered unless parking farther away, suggesting that accessibility by car might require some planning, especially during busy times in the Stadium Village area.
The service at Sidewalk Kitchen is consistently praised as "always great" and "welcoming and friendly." This positive feedback about the staff contributes significantly to the overall dining experience, making customers feel valued and well-cared for. The combination of delicious, authentic food and friendly service makes Sidewalk Kitchen a highly recommended spot for enjoying Cantonese cuisine.
One reviewer shared that while the food is excellent, with dishes priced around $20, it might not be the most budget-friendly option for students. This suggests that while the quality justifies the price, it is positioned as a mid-range dining option rather than a cheap eat. However, the reviewer still highly recommends Sidewalk Kitchen, indicating that the quality and experience are worth the cost for those who can afford it.
Another customer summarized their experience as "great overall" and felt that Sidewalk Kitchen is a "wonderful spot to bring family or close friends for a tasty meal." This highlights the restaurant's suitability for casual gatherings and enjoying a meal with loved ones. However, they also noted that it might not be ideal for a formal dining occasion, likely due to its size and perhaps its overall ambiance, which is not described in detail but can be inferred as more relaxed and less formal.
Based on the information available, the environment of Sidewalk Kitchen can be characterized as perhaps somewhat small or "not very spacious," but likely clean and welcoming given the positive comments about the staff. The focus seems to be more on the quality of the food and the friendliness of the service rather than an elaborate or formal setting. The high volume of takeout orders observed by one reviewer suggests that Sidewalk Kitchen is also a popular option for those who prefer to enjoy their meals at home or elsewhere.
The primary service offered is the preparation and serving of authentic Cantonese Chinese cuisine, available for both dine-in and takeout. The consistently positive remarks about the service from the staff indicate a focus on customer satisfaction. While delivery is not explicitly mentioned in the reviews, the high number of takeout orders suggests that this might be an option, or customers are frequently choosing to pick up their food.
The key features of Sidewalk Kitchen include its authentic Cantonese menu, the deliciousness and quality of its dishes, and the friendly and welcoming service. The extensive menu, encompassing noodles, hotpot, congee, fried rice, chow fun, and milk tea, provides a wide variety of choices for customers. The emphasis on Cantonese-style flavors, which are typically less spicy, caters to those who prefer a more nuanced and naturally flavored cuisine.
No specific promotional information, such as discounts, special offers, or lunch menus, was mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in such details may want to check online ordering platforms or contact the restaurant directly to inquire about any current promotions or special deals that might be available.
In conclusion, Sidewalk Kitchen in Stadium Village, Minneapolis, is a highly regarded Chinese restaurant specializing in authentic Cantonese cuisine. While the space might be cozy and parking can be a bit challenging, the delicious and varied menu, coupled with consistently great and friendly service, makes it a popular choice. The prices, around $20 per dish, position it as a mid-range option. It is considered a wonderful spot for enjoying a tasty meal with family or friends in a casual setting. Found this gem of a restaurant that serves up authentic Chinese dishes in the heart of Stadium Village. Everything I've ordered, I've loved, so you really can't go wrong. Dishes are all around 20-ish dollars, so if you are a broke student, it might not be best for you. Service is always great! I highly recommend Sidewalk Kitchen.
I like this place, even though it’s not very spacious. During the one hour I was there, I noticed a lot of takeout orders. Parking isn’t very convenient—you’ll need to find street parking nearby, which is metered unless you park farther away. The menu is extensive! They offer noodles, hotpot, congee, fried rice, chow fun, milk tea, and more. The flavors aren’t very spicy, as the dishes are Cantonese-style rather than Sichuan-style. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! The waiter was welcoming and friendly. I had a great experience overall. I feel like this is a wonderful spot to bring family or close friends for a tasty meal. However, it’s not ideal for a formal dining occasion.
The food was delicious while the price level was on the medium to high end in the area. The staff were efficient even it was a bit busy at lunch time. It was a good dining experience overall.
Wow this place was so good! Every dish we had was just super delicious. And the service was super friendly! We had the sizzling diced beef, sizzling pork fried noodles, general tso's chicken, and chicken wings. Sizzling diced beef- beef steak cubes mixed with peppers and onions. Taste on the sweeter side, almost like a sweet ketchuppy taste, if that makes sense. Sizzling pork fried noodles- this dish was real good. Thin fried cantonese noodles mixed with pork, onions, and bean sprouts, garnished with sesame seeds. Meaty pork taste, and the noodles have a crunch at the end...so good General Tso's chicken- wow this was our favorite dish of the night. This is not your typical General tso's you find at your typical chinese joint. It taste so much better! It has a savory, tarty soy taste which was soooo good. Best general tso's we have ever had. Good service with great food! We can't wait to come back here and try other dishes! 5/5
Authentic Chinese food, delicious at that. Very limited parking, so arrive on foot if you can. Great place for people who know what they want.
