About Sichuan Gourmet
Sichuan Gourmet is an Asian restaurant located at 1900 Murray Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217, USA. Specializing in Sichuan cuisine, this establishment aims to provide authentic flavors to its customers.
One reviewer noted that the interior of Sichuan Gourmet is very nice and the food possesses a good, unique flavor. However, they also pointed out a significant issue with the edibility of the dishes, stating that up to 70% of their meal was inedible. They also cautioned that the food is very spicy, advising diners to be prepared for a strong initial heat that one may get used to over time, allowing the flavor to emerge.
Specifically, in a dish believed to be the chicken flaming pan, the reviewer found the chicken to be almost entirely bones and tendons. Another dish, the kung pao chicken, contained odd pieces of chicken along with inedible dry pieces of chili pepper and what appeared to be boiled peanuts with an unusual texture. Both dishes were reported to have a minimal amount of vegetables. Additionally, the reviewer suspected tasting soap in one of the dishes (and clarified it was not cilantro). This customer, having dined there twice, experienced similar issues on both occasions, leading them to suggest trying it once for the flavor experience but being unable to recommend it for those looking for a substantial and fully edible meal.
In contrast, another reviewer described the staff as friendly and the food as authentic, expressing satisfaction with their experience. This suggests that while some customers have had negative experiences with the quality and edibility of certain dishes, others have found the food and service to their liking. Potential diners may want to consider this varied feedback when deciding to visit Sichuan Gourmet. No information regarding the restaurant's specific environment beyond being "very nice inside" or any current promotional offers is available in the provided reviews.

It's very nice inside, and while the food has good unique flavor, it almost doesn't matter when 70% of your dish is inedible. Its also very spicy so be prepared. I like spicy and after the initial shock you get used to it and get the flavor. However in the one dish I believe was the chicken flaming pan the chicken was literally all bones and tendons. The other dish was kung pao chicken with odd pieces of chicken with inedible dry pieces of chili pepper and what I would figure are boiled peanuts with an odd texture. Both dishes had almost no vegetables in them as well, and part of the one I'm pretty sure I tasted soap in it. (Not cilantro, I love cilantro, it did not have it in the dish) I'd say to try it once as a flavor experience but I could otherwise never recommend this place for anyone who is ordering to actually eat something. I've had food here twice and this was the same both times. Below is a photo to show how much of the dish was inedible next to its container. That's all bones, tendons, and skin.
Friendly stuff. Authentic food. I’m very satisfied and gad a time there.
The best Hot & Sour Soup around. Amazing food, clean, quiet, friendly.
Stop scrolling through the reviews and just try the restaurant. The food is absolutely amazing! The meat is well cooked and well seasoned, they don’t play around with the spices. The service can be slow understandably because the restaurant is always packed. If you’re gonna be super hungry, I would recommend heading to the restaurant 30-40 mins earlier given the wait time. The food is reasonably priced and worth every dime.
Review is primarily for service and food for anyone who isn't me. We ordered a pretty large to-go order for Lunar New Year and I was surprised to see it waiting among boxes of other to-go orders at the appointed time. There were a ton of people inside. Food was packaged decently. However, as noted on my warning for dietary restrictions, they simply did not care about our request for my nut allergy. Two dishes contained peanuts or walnuts. I sampled the pork rib just to try something "safe" and immediately triggered a light allergic reaction, likely due to cross contamination. I was not able to sample much else, but my friends noted that it was authentic Chinese cuisine and was pretty good. Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Overall: 3.5/5
