Welcome to Shun Xing Chinese Restaurant, a Chinese Restaurant located at 12 Newmarket Square in Newport News, Virginia (VA 23605). For inquiries or to place an order, you can contact them at (757) 245-1088 or via their mobile number +1 757-245-1088. Shun Xing Chinese Restaurant serves the local community with a variety of Chinese dishes, primarily focusing on takeout service according to recent customer feedback.

Based on the available online reviews, Shun Xing Chinese Restaurant offers a mixed experience with some notable strengths in food quality and service, alongside potential areas for improvement in the restaurant's ambiance. One reviewer, who specifically sought egg drop soup and egg rolls, decided to try Shun Xing based on positive reviews they had read. Upon entering the establishment, their initial impression of the "atmosphere and presentation of the place" was that it "could use a lot of work." However, they acknowledged that this aspect is subjective and ultimately up to the individual customer's preference. Despite this initial observation, the reviewer noted a relatively short wait time for their order (approximately 7 minutes). They found the food to be "pretty good," particularly highlighting the generous portion size of the large egg drop soup, which they felt was enough for multiple servings. The egg rolls were described as "decent," though the reviewer mentioned having had better elsewhere. Addressing a previous review they had read about an egg roll containing only one shrimp, this customer reported finding two shrimp in theirs, which they considered sufficient for the size. They also expressed a potential interest in returning to try the lo mein in the future.

Another reviewer focused specifically on the freshness of the vegetables and the taste of the non-fried meat in their dish. They ordered the Szechuan chicken and enthusiastically described it as being "as fresh and delicious as it looks," implying a high standard of ingredient quality and preparation. This positive feedback suggests that Shun Xing Chinese Restaurant pays attention to the quality and flavor of their dishes, particularly those featuring fresh vegetables and non-fried meats.

A third reviewer offered a comparative perspective, stating that they would rate Shun Xing "a cut above most Chinese places in Hampton," suggesting a higher level of quality compared to many other local options. They further indicated that one would need to venture near Fox Hill to find better Chinese food, implying that Shun Xing is among the top choices in its immediate area.

Finally, another piece of crucial information from a reviewer is that there is "no dine-in option" available at Shun Xing Chinese Restaurant. This indicates that their service is primarily geared towards takeout orders.

Considering these reviews, Shun Xing Chinese Restaurant appears to be a takeout-focused establishment that prioritizes the quality and taste of its food, particularly the freshness of vegetables and the flavor of non-fried dishes like the Szechuan chicken. While the ambiance of the restaurant itself might not be its strongest point, the positive feedback on food quality and the generous portion sizes, especially for items like the egg drop soup, are notable strengths. The egg rolls seem to be a decent but not exceptional offering, with a sufficient amount of shrimp filling. The potential for trying other dishes like the lo mein also exists, as mentioned by one reviewer.

For local users in Newport News looking for a Chinese restaurant, Shun Xing offers a convenient location in Newmarket Square. The positive remarks about the freshness and taste of the Szechuan chicken, along with the overall rating being above average for the Hampton area, suggest that the quality of the food is a significant draw. If you are primarily looking for takeout and prioritize flavorful dishes made with fresh ingredients, Shun Xing Chinese Restaurant might be a good option to consider. The generous portion sizes, as noted with the egg drop soup, could also appeal to those looking for value.

However, it is important to be aware that the restaurant's ambiance upon entering might not be the most appealing, according to one reviewer. Additionally, the service is exclusively takeout, so there is no option to dine on the premises. Despite these limitations, the positive comments on food quality and the friendly staff (as mentioned in one review, though the context is not elaborated upon) could outweigh these factors for many customers.

There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews, such as discounts or special offers. Local users interested in such information would need to contact the restaurant directly.

In conclusion, Shun Xing Chinese Restaurant in Newport News, VA, is a takeout-focused Chinese eatery that receives positive feedback for the freshness and taste of its food, particularly dishes like the Szechuan chicken, and for its generous portion sizes, such as the egg drop soup. While the ambiance of the restaurant might be a point of concern for some, and dine-in service is not available, the quality of the food seems to be a significant strength, with some reviewers considering it above average compared to other Chinese restaurants in the vicinity. Local users looking for reliable takeout Chinese food with fresh ingredients should consider giving Shun Xing a try.

I wanted egg drop soup and egg rolls so after reading the reviews, I decided to give them a try. First, the atmosphere and presentation of the place upon entering could use a lot of work but that's up to the customer to decide. I ordered and waited a few minutes (maybe 7 or so) for my food. The food was pretty good. I wasn't expecting the large egg drop soup to be this big but I have enough for another day. The egg rolls were decent but I've had better. I read a review that said they only had one shrimp in theirs but I had two which was sufficient for the size of the egg roll. I may go back to try the lo mein one day.

I judge a Chinese place by how fresh the veggies are and how tasty the non-fried meat is. The Szechuan chicken I have pictured is as fresh and delicious as it looks! I rate this a cut above most Chinese places in Hampton. You have to get near Fox Hill for better. Staff is always super friendly. Note there's no dine-in option.

The cashier was well manned my only issue was after the two customers in front of me paid with cash and I paid she turned around and with her bare hands (no gloves) picked up a bag of egg rolls and dropped them in the grease. I already paid for my food but I wasted my money because that’s unsanitary and nasty to serve food after touching every form of payment…

This place would have potential if I could get white meat for my general tso and sesame chicken. My fiancé and I didn’t like the texture of the meat, very fatty and the chicken “thigh” just looked weird. We ended up only eating the Lomein. Waste of money. If you don’t care about the texture of your meat, the flavor isn’t bad

Was staying in Hampton for the night. Went here as I was super hungry & was in the mood for Chinese food. AAA+++ highly recommended. The food was so dang tasty, look absolutely no further if you have a hankering for some Chinese food. Will definitely be back again when I'm in the area!
