About Shun Lee Palace
Welcome to Shun Lee Palace, a Chinese restaurant located at 4340 Colwick Rd, Charlotte, NC 28211, USA. Serving the Charlotte community, Shun Lee Palace offers both dine-in and takeout options for a variety of Chinese dishes. They can be contacted at (704) 366-2025 or their mobile number +1 704-366-2025 for reservations or to place an order.
As a Chinese Restaurant in Charlotte, Shun Lee Palace has garnered a range of feedback from its customers, indicating a somewhat varied dining experience. One customer who had previously ordered via DoorDash decided to dine in and reported a positive experience with certain dishes. They particularly enjoyed the special fried rice, noting that it was "some of the best" they had had in a long time. They also appreciated the restaurant's willingness to customize their order, as they requested the rice to be made darker with soy sauce, which "turned out fantastic." The chicken wings were also praised for being "perfectly crispy without being overcooked." This reviewer observed that while the dine-in area was not very busy, with only seven people dining, the restaurant clearly had a "strong takeout business." They recommended ordering on-site and even suggested a specific customization for the fried rice to achieve a "classic New York-style" flavor, along with the crispy wings.
An interesting feature mentioned by this reviewer is the use of a robot to bring food to the tables, which they noted was particularly amazing for children. This suggests that Shun Lee Palace offers a unique and potentially entertaining element to the dine-in experience, which could be a draw for families with young children.
However, other recent reviews present a more critical perspective on the food quality and menu descriptions. One customer who ordered through Uber Eats expressed significant disappointment with their meal. They ordered the Szechuan shrimp & scallops, specifically choosing it over other options because it mentioned that the shrimp was battered. However, they were surprised to find that the Szechuan shrimp & scallops were indeed battered, despite this not being mentioned in the Uber Eats menu description. They felt that the price was "stupidly high" for what they received, especially since the dish reportedly had "absolutely no sauce AND the sweetest Szechuan sauce I've ever tasted, not spicy at all?" This indicates a potential issue with the accuracy of online menu descriptions and the flavor profile of certain dishes not meeting expectations.
Adding to their disappointment, this reviewer also claimed that the "special fried rice is not fried." They stated that if the restaurant claims it is fried, then it was "the whitest most unfried rice I have ever seen." This directly contradicts the positive experience of the other reviewer regarding the same dish, highlighting a potential inconsistency in preparation or a difference in what customers consider "fried rice."
Furthermore, this dissatisfied customer described the spring rolls as being "mushy inside (so nasty I couldn't take more than a bite) and had two crunchy layers (I mistook it for an egg roll)." They also found the pad Thai to be "bland" and were disappointed that "they didn't include fortune cookies!" Overall, they rated the rest of their food as "just mediocre if that," expressing strong disappointment with their order and advising others that there are "plenty of better restaurants to order from" and not to "waste your money" at Shun Lee Palace.
Considering these contrasting reviews, it is evident that the experience at Shun Lee Palace can be quite different for different customers and even with different dishes. While some items, like the customized special fried rice and crispy chicken wings, have been praised, others, such as the Szechuan shrimp & scallops, the standard special fried rice, spring rolls, and pad Thai, have received significant criticism regarding preparation, flavor, and accuracy of menu descriptions. The presence of a robot server is a unique feature that could enhance the dine-in experience, particularly for children.
For local users in Charlotte considering Shun Lee Palace, it is important to be aware of this mixed feedback. The positive review suggests that certain dishes might be enjoyable, and the willingness to customize orders is a plus. The negative review, however, raises concerns about the quality and preparation of several menu items, as well as the accuracy of online descriptions. The discrepancy in the description and quality of the Szechuan shrimp & scallops and the special fried rice is particularly noteworthy.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in any potential specials or promotions at Shun Lee Palace would need to contact the restaurant directly at (704) 366-2025.
In conclusion, Shun Lee Palace in Charlotte, NC, offers a blend of Chinese cuisine with a unique robot server for dine-in customers. While one reviewer highlighted positive experiences with the special fried rice and chicken wings, along with attentive service, another customer reported significant disappointment with several dishes, including the Szechuan shrimp & scallops, the special fried rice itself, spring rolls, and pad Thai, also noting inaccuracies in the online menu. Local users should consider these varied experiences when deciding whether to dine at or order from Shun Lee Palace. Trying specific dishes that have received positive mentions, such as the customized fried rice and crispy wings, might be a way to potentially have a better experience. However, caution may be warranted regarding other menu items based on the negative feedback received.

I’ve ordered from DoorDash a few times, but today I decided to dine in. This was some of the best special fried rice I’ve had in a long time. I asked if they could make the rice darker, and they added soy sauce—it turned out fantastic. The chicken wings were perfectly crispy without being overcooked. While there were only seven people dining in and I ate out of a starfoam plate, it was clear they have a strong takeout business. I recommend ordering on-site and asking for the fried rice extra dark if you’re craving something reminiscent of classic New York-style fried rice and wings. Side note a robot brings your food so kids are so amazed!
Ordered Szechuan shrimp & scallops and special fried rice among other things. Deliberately decided not to order something else because it specified the shrimp was battered. Guess what - although not mentioned in the description on the Uber Eats menu, the Szechuan shrimp & scallops are in fact battered. Wouldn't have paid such a stupidly high price if I had known that beforehand. (And absolutely no sauce AND the sweetest Szechuan sauce I've ever tasted, not spicy at all?) Also the special fried rice is not fried, FYI. If they say it is, this it the whitest most unfried rice I have ever seen. The spring rolls were mushy inside (so nasty I couldn't take more than a bite) and had two crunchy layers (I mistook it for an egg roll), the pad Thai was bland, and they didn't include fortune cookies! The rest of the food was just mediocre if that, cannot express how disappointed I was with this order. Plenty of better restaurants to order from, don't waste your money.
So normally I don't post reviews about just regular restaurants that I visit or order from DoorDash, but I have to say that I’ve never had a back experience here. All of the food is always been hot. Fresh delicious they give you amazing portions and the price is way cheaper than some of the other competitors so I really like this place and I think you should give it a try.
Shun Lee has always been 1 of our favorites. I order hibachi shrimp with onion soup. Last time the sauce was more like a glaze, super thick & lots of soy taste, the onion soup was very salty. When I said something to the guy at register, he said I should've spoke up. I didn't cos I didn't notice until I started eating. Cabela, the AI, who brought our food was more friendly & talkative than the girl who took our order! But I give it 4 stars. Lots of menu items to choose from!
The worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. Spring rolls greasy and mushy. Teriyaki skewers old and recooked, extremely hard and tough. Generals Chicken, garlic chicken, Sa cha chicken all of them were gloopy, bland, no flavor, and tasted like overcooked mush. Hot n sour soup, wasn’t either hot or sour. Chicken velvet soup tasted of old Chicken broth. Even the crispy noodles were dark brown and stale. Avoid this place at all costs.
