Shine Intro

Shine is a Chinese restaurant located at 756 W Webster Ave, Chicago, IL 60614, USA. They can be contacted at (773) 296-0101 or their mobile number +1 773-296-0101.

According to customer reviews, Shine offers food that is considered "pretty authentic Shanghai cuisine," characterized by a tendency towards sweetness in flavor. Dishes highlighted include the "fresh and tasty" salmon sashimi and the meatball stuffed tofu, which was noted to be "very sweet." The restaurant also offers crabs, which are described as seasonal and "very fresh."

In terms of service, one customer reported an issue with a bus person attempting to clear dishes before they were finished, but they also noted that the manager handled the situation "very well" and offered an apology. This suggests that while there might be occasional service lapses, the management is responsive.

Another customer used sesame chicken as a "barometer" for the restaurant. They found the portion of chicken to be plentiful but noted that it was not crispy and was served slightly above room temperature. The sauce was described as having "just enough sweetness" but a thin consistency. The broccoli was "steamed nicely." While this customer ate the dish due to hunger, it was not rated as one of the better sesame chickens they had experienced.

Overall, Shine appears to be a Chinese restaurant specializing in Shanghai cuisine with a sweet flavor profile. They offer a variety of dishes, including seafood options like salmon sashimi and seasonal crabs. While there was a reported service hiccup that was handled well by management, feedback on specific dishes like sesame chicken suggests that the quality might vary. The restaurant is recommended by at least one reviewer.

The food is pretty authentic Shanghai cuisine. They are on the sweet side of the taste. The salmon sashimi was fresh and tasty, and the meatball stuffed tofu was very sweet. The crabs are seasonal and very fresh. One of the bus girls insisted on taking away our dishes even after we clearly said that we were not finished. The manager handled the situation very well and offered us an apology. Will recommend this place. 👍 👌

Sesame chicken is my barometer for Chinese restaurants so I had to try it. There was plenty of chicken but it wasn’t crispy and was slightly above room temperature when brought out. Just enough sweetness in the sauce which was also very thin. The broccoli was steamed nicely and was spread throughout the dish. I was starving so I scarfed it all down, but this was not one of the better sesame chickens I’ve had.

Really great food and a very friendly staff. The seared tuna was amazing. Best spring rolls I've had in a long time. We can't wait to go back to Shine!

Disappointing experience that seems to indicate a thorough mediocrity from the food to the service. Beverage-wise, the ginger martini ran way too sweet that one could discern neither the ginger nor the martini. I ordered the salmon sashimi as recommended by the server because it was allegedly very fresh. And indeed, it was so fresh that I tasted ice all over the fish. Other items were okay: some of them had enticing presentation but the quality seemed rather unimpressive. Last but not least, the staff was rather rude: I arrived for a reserved table but was hushed to a corner for more than five minutes so they could "figure out which table was reserved." I'd expect the level of food and service at a much cheaper venue.
