Shi shang ju食尚居

A taste of Chinatown in Coolidge Corner I saw this place recently opened and stopped by with some friends for a weeknight dinner. We were welcomed and seated immediately. Everything exceeded our expectations; both the food and service were great! The menu is extensive and filled with regional sichuan dishes as well as more popular Chinese options. We ordered the fish filet with chopped chili, beer braised duck, mapo tofu, and wonton soup. Everything was flavorful and came out quickly. It's tough to pick, but our favorite was the fish, which was served on a sizzling platter and hugely sized. Everything was very reasonably priced. Our waitress and host were both friendly and helpful; we never had to ask for more water or napkins, etc. I recommend ordering things family style as intended due to the portion sizes and variety of options. If you're looking for a comfortable, authentic Chinese restaurant in Brookline, this is the place. I can't think of another like it in the neighborhood; it really felt like we were transported to Chinatown. Highly recommend - we'll be returning customers!

Delicious food and lovely atmosphere! The menu has a great variety of dishes. The staff goes above and beyond to be considerate and kind. Give this place a try — you won’t regret it. Definitely looking to come back to try other items on the menu!

Exceptional Chinese food, so glad they opened here in Brookline! All dishes we tried did not disappoint. They also offer Lunch Specials Rice Plate for only $13.95. Already want to go back for more!

The neighborhood needed a classic Chinese restaurant and we got it! Very authentic food with an extensive menu including Cantonese, Sichuan, and American-Chinese options. We had the bbq beef spareribs, salty fish eggplant stew, and really tender beef with chili pepper. It was all fresh and delicious in generous portions! The staff were extremely friendly, efficient, and attentive. The space was also clean and we saw they were accommodating all party sizes. This will definitely be a go-to spot!

This is one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in Boston. Unlike the uber curated menus at Baby cafe or Kung Ku kitchen, this place has everything! Food and service were both excellet. We had eggplant with salty fish which was excellent. It came out in a clay pot bubbling hot. The salt and pepper port was great, the squid was a bit rubber. The beef with chinese peppers were also excellent. The menu maybe bit overwhelming full of dishes we want to try but there were only two of us. Juding from the few dishes we had, we''ll be coming back to try more dishes.
