About Sheng Hui Dim Sum
Welcome to Sheng Hui Dim Sum, a Chinese restaurant located at 2889 Valley Blvd J in West Covina, California (CA 91792), USA. Specializing in the popular Cantonese cuisine of dim sum, Sheng Hui Dim Sum falls under the Chinese Restaurant category and aims to provide local users with an authentic taste of Hong Kong-style small dishes. They can be contacted at (626) 581-4221 or their mobile number +1 626-581-4221 for inquiries or to place orders.
Based on the available customer reviews, Sheng Hui Dim Sum offers a mix of experiences. One reviewer, who visited on January 26, 2025, around 11 AM and was order number 10, reported a significant issue with food safety. They ordered shumai and Shanghai dumplings for takeout and discovered upon arriving home that the pork in the shumai was raw. This necessitated a return trip to the restaurant for a refund, which the customer understandably viewed as a waste of time. This incident serves as a serious caution regarding the thoroughness of food preparation at Sheng Hui Dim Sum.
Conversely, another reviewer had a highly positive experience, proclaiming Sheng Hui Dim Sum as "one of the best dim sum place I've had!" This reviewer was particularly impressed by the portion sizes, noting that unlike many other establishments whose portions have decreased since the pandemic, Sheng Hui Dim Sum has maintained the familiar size of their items. They also lauded the flavor as "outstanding and super authentic," attributing this to the owner's claim that the chef was a seasoned dim sum chef from Hong Kong. This positive review suggests a commitment to quality and authenticity in their dim sum offerings.
The reviewer with the positive experience also mentioned the affordability of Sheng Hui Dim Sum, stating that an order for two came out to be around $40, which they considered "well worth the money," especially compared to other, more expensive options. This indicates that Sheng Hui Dim Sum might offer good value for its authentic dim sum.
Regarding the environment, the positive reviewer noted the presence of only "1 small table outside," advising customers not to expect to be able to occupy it. This suggests that seating might be limited, particularly for outdoor dining. There is no information provided about the indoor ambiance of the restaurant. Local users might need to consider that seating could be a constraint, potentially leaning more towards a takeout-oriented service model, although dine-in is clearly an option given the first reviewer's visit.
In terms of services, Sheng Hui Dim Sum offers takeout, as indicated by the first reviewer's experience. Dine-in is also available, though the limited outdoor seating suggests that indoor seating might be the primary option, the extent of which is unknown. The second reviewer's positive feedback implies efficient service that results in a satisfying and authentic dim sum experience. However, the first reviewer's incident with raw food and the need for a refund raises concerns about quality control in their food preparation process.
The features of Sheng Hui Dim Sum are primarily centered around its Hong Kong-style dim sum. The positive reviewer's comments highlight the authentic flavor and generous, pre-pandemic portion sizes, suggesting that these are key characteristics of their offerings. The mention of shumai and Shanghai dumplings by the first reviewer indicates some of the specific items on their menu. The claim of having a chef with a background in Hong Kong dim sum further supports the authenticity of their cuisine.
The affordable pricing, as noted by the second reviewer, is another significant feature that makes Sheng Hui Dim Sum an attractive option for those seeking quality dim sum without exorbitant costs.
Promotional information is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. To learn about any specials, discounts, or promotions that Sheng Hui Dim Sum might be offering, local users should check for an online presence (website, social media) or contact the restaurant directly by phone. Given the positive mention of their value, they might have regular deals or lunch specials that could be of interest to the local community.
In conclusion, Sheng Hui Dim Sum in West Covina, CA, appears to be a restaurant that, at its best, offers authentic and flavorful Hong Kong-style dim sum with generous portions and affordable prices, potentially providing excellent value. The presence of a chef with Hong Kong experience suggests a commitment to traditional flavors. However, the serious incident reported by one customer regarding raw pork in their shumai raises significant food safety concerns that potential customers should be aware of. While another customer had a fantastic experience, this stark contrast in feedback suggests potential inconsistencies in food preparation quality control. Local users considering Sheng Hui Dim Sum should weigh the positive remarks about flavor, portion size, and price against the critical food safety issue reported. It might be prudent to look for more recent reviews to see if the issue has been addressed or if other customers have had similar experiences. Contacting the restaurant directly to inquire about their food safety practices might also be a consideration before dining or ordering from Sheng Hui Dim Sum.

Customer Reviews
I came here on 1/26/25 a little after 11am. I was order number 10. I got the shumai and Shanghai dumplings. I took it home and I the shumri was not cooked. The pork was raw. I spent the time to take it back and got a refund, what a waste of time. Be careful with your food.
Omg one of the best dim sum place I've had! After the pandemic everyone elses' portions (or size) went down but not theirs. I was super surprised to see that each of the familiar items are all the same size as what we're used to. The flavor is outstanding and super authentic! According to the owners the chief was already a sim sum chef back in Hong Kong. We ordered for 2 and it came out to be about $40 ish. Well worth the money especially when everyone else is super expensive. There's only 1 small table outside so don't expect to be able to occupy it. Looks like we'll be a regular here.
A hole in the wall restaurant. One can only order take out. No dine in. However, the dim sum is delicious! Dim sum: fresh ingredients, no MSG, yummy, very traditional Hong Kong style dim sum!!! We arrived 3PM, one hour prior to closing, so some stuff were sold out. We still managed to buy $60 worth of food. Our favorites: BBQ pork pastry, chicken feet, turnip cake, shui mai, hargow, chives and shrimp dumplings, preserve egg & pork porridge.
It's a small place on the corner behind a laundry place so it's easily missed. They get busy fast and tend to run out of certain dim sums early. For me,it was sesame balls. Anyhow, call in advance and give it 20 minutes.
Delicious dumpling and their items are sold out quite fast too Must try the shiu mai and steamed bean curd, they are nothing alike other dim sum stores. This place locates quite far from the heart of the Asian community in Rowland Heights and the wait is a bit long, but the food worths it!
